I used to collect gold and silver coins. When I got broke last year I had to liquidate. I still enjoy having the rare ones when I'm not so broke.
I collect rocks too but not valuable ones. On a memorable hunt or a nice camping trip with the family, I'll find a cool looking rock and I label it with the event and date as a memento, momento, pimento(whatever its called you know what I mean)!!
What do you collect?

I collect coyotes I like to prospect a bit too. Ive really had the urge to get a good metal detector. But I never do. Theres a lot of gold out there still to be found. From what I understand you cant prospect for gold in most BLM areas? I hear theres a lot of gold out here in Kern County deserts.

Stupid predictions, here's my favorite:
In 1977, Jimmy Carter, President of the United States incredible as it may seem, confidently predicted that "we could use up all of the proven reserves of oil in the entire world by the end of the next decade

My wife talked me into getting a nice metal detector. So far all I've gotten has been several sunburns and one chunk of copper about the size of my thumb.

Lone Howl, you are right, lot's of gold in Kern county. Seems everything is against the law now days. I think I'd tell the BLM, catch me if you can. Go out there and find some of that gold, It's a God given right to do so. Lone Howl, you may know the area where I had my best day prospecting, the El Paso mountians. We used a portable water washing system I kinda of invented lol. By the way, I have never heard of such a BLM rule. Tim, you need to go to the west end of your state, they have pulled out some big nuggets around the Vulture mountians, Oatman and many other places in western Arizona. Who knows, you may be the guy to find the lost Ducthman or maybe one of them potato sized nuggets.

I collect feathers that have been cast out from my many birds. Everywhere I have travelled, you will always find me snatching them up. I take them home and use them in my crafts or sometimes make clay impressions of them to dry, sand and hang on dream catchers or world hoops. Also, that occasional rock that catches my eye while on an adventure to remind me of that moment in my life. Coins, two dollar bills and cups and saucers.

I like to collect old traps and shed antlers.
I usually hunt sheds with a friend each spring in Utah, Nevada and Colorado. He does quite well, picking up 400-500 sheds each spring. It's hard to hunt with him because I average about one antler for each 4 of his. I still like my meager collection.
Old traps are one of my personal favorites. Not necessarily the extremely rare traps you can pick up on eBay, but the ones I find and happen across at ranchers places, etc. My personal favorite in my collection is an old (estimating about 1920-1930) #3 Newhouse with "US" stamped on the jaws that I found in a burn off area in Nevada. It's pretty beat up, but still my favorites.

I just ran across this today and I gotta post it. It's from Steven Wright:
I have a hobby. I have the world's largest collection of sea shells. I keep it scattered on beaches all over the world. Maybe you've seen some of it.

Sounds like a collection to be proud of Rich, I was put into a situation to change my collection of wives as few years ago, and made a big step up!! Nowadays I seem to collect a lot of aches and memories. The memories and the way they felt are by far the best. Now, Krusty I see at least three calls I want, and Rich, about that Howler, Ryan, a Smoke color? and remember ya can't trust Alaskan Yoter. LOL Carl

I have a very informal collection of cartridges. Things I have never owned, but just as a tactile learning tool.
I believe you can gain some insight by holding a 378 Weatherby and a 30/30 Winchester in your hand. Same with a 218 Bee and a 223.
Then when they think the numbers mean something, related to power, you hand them a 220 Swift.
Anybody with spare cartridges (new or old) to donate, I happily accept.....but, don't really need any more 30'06; thanks anyway!
Good hunting. LB
