SO, I think I have this Mitch Rosen inside the waistband double cowhide holster sufficiently broke in. I can withdraw the Hellcat without excessive force, yet it’s still secure, turn it upside down and shake it and there’s no movement. As far as I am concerned, it’s secure and yet I can draw the piece without undo effort and this is exactly how it should be.
Now we move on to a couple of little operational items. This trigger is like a two stage, initial take up, there is almost no resistance and the second stage is hard to describe, not actually gritty, but it’s at least 6 pounds and the over travel is non existent.
However, you get the feeling that you are actually moving something, and while looking at the red dot, it’s wiggling all over the place. So, instead of using the pad of my index finger on the trigger, in experimenting, (dri firing, of course) I have been sticking my finger past the first joint and this is a lot more steady, judging by the comparative movement of the red dot.
I have a XD9 and a M&P, both polymer frame semi auto, and I shoot them with the tip of my index finger. They both have crummy trigger pulls and both are iron sights, but I don’t perceive all of the jiggling around that I see with those other two mentioned.
So, Victor, do you think that sticking my finger past the first joint is acceptable, since it seems to control all of the wiggling of the red dot on the Target? I would be interested in your opinion!
Good hunting. El Bee
Edit: to clarify, and acknowledge what everybody seems to agree, polymer pistols get away with terrible triggers. I have revolvers and 1911 type pistols with very nice triggers, so I can differentiate between decent triggers and a “polymer pistol” trigger. The trigger on my Ruger Red Hawk is excellent, best of any handgun that I own. Therefore, this Hellcat has a shitty trigger and I’ve been told, deal with it, that’s reality. I love the pull-on trigger on my double action Berreta and forgiving when you have gloves on. I pull right from first finger joint, it kind of rests right in there.

Yeah, well that’s a full size pistol, I believe?
This is like a subcompact, more like ko ko’s Ruger, a LCR I think? (Pause while the government weenie writes this all down.) As you know, all firearms involve a tradeoff. With this Hellcat, you get a lighter and more easily to conceal piece. It’s not a target model, so the quality of the trigger pull is kinda secondary….can’t have every thing.

Another thing for Victor. You know I’m old school. My Combat Commander is tricked out and one is a modified squared off trigger guard and it’s stippled. Needless to say, being old school, I wrap the index finger of my left hand on the front of the trigger guard.
Now, I have watched a lot of shooters, many with much more experience than I. And, it appears that my style with the finger is not popular these days. I’ve been doing it for so long, I think it would be difficult to quit. So, is this something that would cause seasoned, experienced shooters to laugh at me, or at least snicker a little. So, what do you think? I have never claimed to be a pistol expert, so I am asking an expert, (Victor) what’s your opinion?
Thanks, and don’t worry about hurting my feelings! Be tactful, but honest. Good hunting. El Bee [ April 23, 2025, 09:17 AM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

I do the double hand grip with thumb on top of thumb or left thumb just below thumb, depends on if it's my Berretta or Ruger revolver. I don't really care how someone else holds theirs i just want a comfortable and repeatable hold. for shits and giggles i tried the hold with finger over the trigger guard, i don't like that as I feel like that hand/arm is overextending. All that practice is fun but in real world a guy is going to be behind a chair or something and just shooting over top of the chair with one hand. LOL
Question though? if you in a crowded room and gun fire breaks out and there are others pulling out their pistols as well, who you gonna shoot first? [ April 25, 2025, 07:33 AM: Message edited by: TA17Rem ]

Index finger curled around front of trigger guard used to be popular grip, never used it myself. During recoil that Index finger usually slips, and requires an adjustment. Some shooters believed it helped to keep muzzle from rising over the standard grip. It's impossible to keep the muzzle from rising...physics. The entire goal is to have a secur grip that does not change, from the first shot, to the last. I've watched hundreds of shooters grip and shoot, and a good many will adjust the grip from shot to shot. Opening and closing fingers around the grip....bad form, every shot will be different I have ten fingers wrapped around the grip, only because I don't have 11. If you were asking me, I'd say loose the finger doing nothing on the trigger guard and move it to the grip. As for the trigger finger placement, I maintain it doesn't matter what part of the finger you use to jerk the trigger with. As long as your able to press the trigger without moving the the gun, your good. I do not shoot off the pad tip of trigger finger, I'm up to the first joint. All of the usual advice you read or hear about breathing, focus on the sight then squeeze, is bullshit. You have to be able to press the trigger and have the pistol not move ,left, right or up/down, that's the whole key to shooting accurately. When you have that one part nailed down, the difficult part of shooting finished. Hope it makes sense Leonard? I emailed you...no response.

I’m very puzzled by your remark about having sent me an email? I guess I could have deleted it accidentally? I get 75/100 spams every day, it’s a bitch repeating them, especially on this new tablet! Or, you don’t have my gmail, do you? My aol account is 35 years old and attracts horrendous amount of spam.

Well, that’s clear as mud? Do you mean my US postal address, or what? My long time email is way back when they used a AOL floppy and charged by the minute. My email is the same as used on this board, nbosin@aol.com. Nancy used it when I bought her a used 286PC to replace her typewriter. She wanted to get a word processor and I said fuck that, just get a computer with an office program. I had zero interest in computers except at work. She used it for a long time and somewhere along the line, I found out that there was some hunting apps and before long she just told me to keep that address and she would get another one for herself. She seemed to think that I was hogging her computer, and I guess I was? She had her own networks long before facebook, she played poker on line and chat, made some long friendships and had a reunion type of get together up in Reno, to put a face to all her online friends. Anyway….

A couple aggravating things about living in the People’s Republik of Kalifornia. OK OK there are a lot more than a couple things; thanks to our LIBERAL citizens voting in all of these Pinko Democrats.
Anyway, I like this Hellcat. BUT, there are a couple “features” I could live without. First of all, the magazine must be inserted in order for the piece to fire. WTF? This is an obscure negative but it seems fucking pointless if you ask me?
There was/is something else but I can’t …..oh yeah, TEN ROUND MAGAZINE! I’m pretty sure a 13 round fits flush but theywon’t send it to my zip code! I might hurt somebody with an extra 3 rounds!
I mean, who pulled the number 10 out of their ass and decided it was the just right number of cartridge capacity? I will never understand the Liberal mind! They like to make rules for the rest of us in The People’s Republik! Don’t get me started! Even places like New Mexico and Colorado, they come up with the same kind of asshole regulations; WE KNOW BEST!

I bought a small semi-auto 22 l.r. pistol awhile back it had all kinds of safety features. Had it for about a week and gave it to one of my Nephews. Hell with all that crap. Then got the Berretta 22 semi-auto, it found a home with me. Thought about getting one in 9mm but that be just as useless ass the pistol before with all safety crap and have no use for 9mm either.

It looks like Wildlife services for Nev. is going to be shut down for a while on public land. Should be a surplus of coyotes for Chad come next fall...

Yes, well. Coyote suppression in Nevada has always really pissed me off! AS near as I can tell, there is no justification for it. They have the money to do it and by golly, let’s spend it! And, again, it appears to be scorched earth, and yet it’s unnecessary. Some of the places they fly no farms, no ranches, I think they can’t justify their policies….but what do I know, I guess I killed my first coyote in Nevada, about ‘67, 68 somewhere like that? So, it’s not that I’m unfamiliar with the situation. They don’t need coyote suppression, period. Yet, they do it with a vengence. Go figure?
