Came home from bowhunting early today.Started a little project Ive been kicking around for awhile, a new style open reed for my little lineup. Ive discontinued my Delrin series of calls, and will be making all wood stuff here on out. Plastic is getting boring for me.

Here is my "prototype", in the rough. They will have black (that is brown in photo) micarta, tennon/laminated to the wood. This will provide strength for the toneboard/wedge setup. 5/8" black toneboard will be standard. (That is 1/2" in photo). Small handy call.
Anywhoo, Ill post some up when I get em done.
Mark

Very appealing.

Will you take special requests for Delrin calls?

Thanks Brad : ) still waiting on the micarta rod stock...apparently, theres a micarta shortage of some sort lol.

Same with the diaphragm calls, everytime you turn around a certain latex is discontinued, or the tape is no good etc.

Good stuff sems to be hard to get nowdays...of anything.

I like the narrow tone boards on most open reed calls and like your's as well. Not in the market for a call but agree with Chris delrin rocks.... [Smile]

If you are sick of Delrin, that's cool and I completely understand. I'll have to take extra special care of the few I have.

You make a great call and I'm sure the wood are just as good as the others, possibly better. [Smile]

Thanks Trapper, appreciate it. I do have some flat knife scales, which is what the above call was made with. The stuff I have coming is some fine linen, jet black micarta that pool cue makers use. If I ever get it, it should work great.

mark, look up Sheffield knifemakers supply and call them, they got every color under the sun, its all flat stuff but would work fine for what you are doing, and if you don't want the pattern in it try some paper micarta

Back when I was working for a living, I used to know a lot of sources for all that stuff, poly carbonate, laminates, roundstock and of course Delrin and micarta.

I remember doing some snazzy modifications for "plastic" welding equipment and found the best sources were all local, City of Industry, Rosemead, Commerce, even McMaster-Carr, in Norwalk, which is local for me.

However, I have been out of the loop for nine years, thus far. (but who's counting?) Yes, I highly recommend retirement.

Good hunting. El Bee
