Anyone ever had one? A V10 gas? Got a guy trying to sell me one.Raised, big wheels, the works.I know the gas mileage has to be scary but any input on turning ratio, handling, anything?

D, I don't have the Excursion, but do own a 2003 F-250 Super Duty (crew cab/short bed) with the V10. It has good power and runs smooth as silk, but doesn't pass up any gas stations-10 mpg is the best it gets. I've never checked the turning radius footage wise, but for the length of the truck, I don't consider it too excessive. With that said, I have scraped and rubbed it pretty good on some smaller jeep sized trails.

K, Thanks.Yeh the mileage is the scary thing.I put on too many for 10 per gallon I'm afraid.Would sure make a nice rig though-and would handle some deep snow I suspect.

My baby sister has one. Nice vehicle. Uses it to tow an enclosed trailer and ride six dogs in the car.
She's loved it, but also hated it. The MPG is the main reason for the hate.

My uncle, real good guy, Marine Corps, Iwo vet, but he always liked Fords.
He bought a heavy duty PU to pull a 5th wheel and was proud of the power of that big V10. He drove it from Vancouver to Palm Springs. Took it to the dealer when he got here and complained that he was only getting 6MPG. They told him, yeah that's about all you will get out of it. He sold it, took a beating and bought a tricked out van camper.
I only owned one Ford, it was a 1963 Galaxy 500, had a 289, or was it 283? Anyway, for whatever reason, I put three transmissions in that car in the 2 years that I owned it. I cross the street rather than walk past a Ford.
Good hunting. El Bee (just kidding)

My dad always drove fords and so my first car was a ford. A 1967 ford fairlane, candy apple red with a 302 with 351 windsor heads. Have had fords ever since, cept dureing a moument of weakness one year I bought a 1977 chev. 3/4 ton pick-up which only stayed around for a year and then got traded for another ford.. My 3 brothers went in different directions with them getting into Dodges,Chev, and buicks...Never liked rideing in any of them..

The Ford V10s are pretty good engines from everything I've heard.
I don't know about the Excursion but the F250s don't turn very sharp at all. They require extra space to turn around in by camparison to the Dodge anyway.

good friend of mine HAD that same Excursion. He also said 10 mpg on a good day. I'd suspect the turning radius is the same as my '01 F250 X-cab long bed, and it takes a good bit of asphalt to turn it around. After getting rid of my '89 F250 with the 460 under the hood, I swore off the big gassers and went diesel for the power and bought a little 4 door Tacoma for huntin' and tootlin' around purposes. The price tag would have to be REALLY low for me to think about a big gasser again. It won't take long to spend the savings on gas.
Holly Crap, who is this Brad H guy. I haven't seen him around these parts in ages...glad to see the rock got moved and you made it out O.K. ![[Smile]](smile.gif) [ April 02, 2013, 05:42 PM: Message edited by: TRnCO ]

I've got a '00 F-250 SC 4x4 with a V 10/auto that I ordered new in 2000. I have no real complaints with it. I figure it this way. A truck that weighs in at an easy 7000 pounds + with 4WD and is built to work isn't made to be a fuel saver. The V 10 never runs out of power and the truck hauls, tows and pushes snow with no problems. I skipped the V 8 when I ordered the truck since I figured out that the V 8 would not have the power for such a heavy truck. No regrets here.

I saw a big ford pick-up not sure which model the 3/4 or 1 ton pick-up with a V-10. Anyway they had removed the front fenders on it and the cab so I asked the parts lady what happen, it fall off the transport or something. No she laughed, it had a cracked head on the left side that had to be replaced and said now days its much easier to just remove the front end along with fenders and cab to work on the engine.. I asked her what is the labor cost for that. She would'nt say but I bet its alot...
