Probably been asked before?
Is a truck better for hunting, or do you like a SUV. Full size truck?
What do you have, and what would you like to have?
Good hunting. LB

Currently I'm driving a 2002 Chevy 1500HD Fwd Crew short box. Topper with 30" front side doors that access a home made removeable gun tray. Back seats fold down for gear storage and also spare gun(s) storage. Works perfect for me but has some limits when it come to off road use.
Someday I would like to get one of those beefed up jeeps or willys with a short block chevy. Mostly for fun.

I prefer trucks over SUV's for calling. You can carry the coyotes in the back and not have to go to the trouble of putting them in a box to keep fleas off you (though I still do that in the back of the truck anyway). You also can haul an ATV without needing a trailer.
I am currently driving a '99 Ford Ranger 4x4 XLT. I thought I'd like it's smaller size, but I don't. I haven't had any trouble with it while calling, but while trapping, I have been stuck a few times.
My ATV of choice is a Honda Rancher. It suits my purpose just fine.
My dream hunting vehicle? That would be your truck Leonard. hehe

I have a toyota Tacoma 4x4 that has worked just fine over the past 6 years. It replaced another Toyota 4x4 truck that I had for 7 years (gave it to a daughter and its still around) I like the smaller size as it is more maneverable then a full size. They have been very reliable (until this am!!!) and have gone alot of places a larger truck couldn't get to. The smaller trucks IMHO start better in the -50 weather (I hunt down to -30) and don't get caught as easily in the snow (we have snow for over 7 months here). I've hunted out of and have had both large and small trucks. A larger truck can be more comfortable (definitely on an open highway) but I'll take my smaller truck here in the back country.
SUV verse truck? I have a canopy that is usually on my truck (for weather protection of contents). But it takes all of 10 minutes to load/unload and then I can set either my 4 wheeler (Suzuki Quad runner) or my sno go (Tundra) back there when I'm not in the mood to pull a trailer or if the country that I'm heading says no! Plus I can more easily put a caribou or two in the back. So a truck is IMHO more flexible then a SUV.
Conclusion for hunting vehicle: Truck over SUV and small over big (atleast for my uses).
As to the little problem this morning. Well lets just say that I lucked out because two starts later and I would have been stranded way back in the hills. Truck blew a starter and I was originally fixing to head up to the jump off point and take the 4 wheeler up to my moose camp to do some work. Today was toast because of it but I'm sure glad it happened when it did or I'd still be gone!

Leonard, I have a F-150 4x4 and a 4x4 Jeep. But you know I both know what the best hunting rigs are lol. Hell, over all those years in the club I owned a half doz. of them. But I'll have to go along with John and say the best one I had was the old ( coyote coffin ) my Toyota. I had it for 15 years and what a truck. It finally died with over 400,000 miles on it and most of that was in the dirt.

The best vehicle to hunt in is someone elses I used to have a '92 Toy 4x4, I loved it but it took a crap so Ive been running around in my POS 80 Cheby Blazer for last 5 years or so.Good hunting vehicle but hard on gas of course. And I longed for another pickup. The Blazer is just to much trouble to open rear hatch to put dead bodies and such in.Good for locking your gear up in though. I bought a 99 Chevy short cab 4x4 fullsize W/V8 recently, used with more miles than I wanted but in great shape.Someone left it as colateral(?) on a loan and I ended up buying it for 5000 bucks.I wanted an extended cab but couldnt pass on the price. I shore love being able to cram all my stuff in the back and take off, unlike the Blazer, couldnt carry hardly anything in it.And man, can I stack the corpses in the back! Without driving home with fleas in my hair! I love having a pickup again!

I like both, I have a 97,chevy 4x4, and two jeeps, one for crusing (98) and one for hunting, my number one is a "79"jeep, got it new, and if I go hunting, far from home, over 100miles, and may spend the night, I load the truck and tow the jeep, this southwest county is not nice to big rigs. Yes Leonard I was. Good thing I had troubles posting it, because the World is NOT ready for us lol. I had 3 pics, one of Franks 4x4 van, one of my old 78 Ford 4x4 and one of my old Toyota 4x4. The pics didn't show to much. Hell, it would take a book to show what a California varmint rig looks like lol. Good Hunting.

Danny -
I remember some long time back seeing a picture of your "Coyote Coffin" on another forum.I think it was when you were trying to get rid of it.

I'll add my vote for the Toyota trucks. The only wrench mine have ever known is the one that fits the oil drain plug.
Keep using what works.

No time behind bars or shots fired by jealous husbands, just busy as heck. I've been in a state that us old hillbillies refer to as "the hogs musta dun et 'im" as far as the computer world goes.
Different job; no longer a solo artist, I now have a bunch of people working for me. Whoever came up with the idea of leadership by example didn't care much about free time.
I actually thought I'd registered here once but I always use the same user name and a fairly simple p-word - guess I didn't register before.
Besides, with the group of guys you have hanging around here someone like me is best advised to shut up, look, listen, and learn!
Pretty respectable croud. I do lots of lookin 'n learnin.
