you are asking for a lot, but the place to start is in this Forum, under Night Hunting Basics.

Good hunting. LB

First off, is it legal to hunt at night in OR?

I am convinced that new hunters are better off using an electronic call. For hunting at night, you DO NOT want a remote. Keep the speaker right beside you.

You are better off hunting at night with two people. One shooter and one to work the light. If you call by yourself, use a shotgun. Balancing a light and rifle is nearly impossible. A shotgun makes up for a not so perfect aim.

Scan the area with a red lens constantly while calling, if you think you see eyes, keep going. When you actually hit eyes, there won't be a question in your mind. Keep the brightest part of the light just above the eyes.

Never shoot at just one eye, eyes that are spaced very far apart or that do not come closer. Predators have their eyes in the front, it is rare for one to look at you and you not be able to see both eyes.

Tim is right, NEVER shoot at one eye. I shot at a set of eyes twice and killed a two headed coyote.... [Smile]

And if you shoot from your truck, try not to shoot your antenna off.

It is legal to hunt at night in Oregon now. You can even shoot from a rig. It can only be done on privet property. And if it isn't your property you have to have permission from the property owner.

I would be building a high rack. But I seldom hunt Oregon. We do have permission on 30,000 acres. But at the price of fuel it is hard to get over there all the time.
