She’s only here for my birthday and then back to Marin. So nice to see her, she is a very good daughter!

She was just telling me about her anniversary this past weekend. 36 years married. She had to make reservations TEN MONTHS IN ADVANCE, at the House of Prime Rib, in San Francisco! Said the place was packed, people without reservation were waiting outside for 4 hours!

I guess when there is a hot new restaurant, or in this case, has been established for almost 80 years, the masses will flock to your door. But, $80 for a 16 ounce prime rib is a little steep, but it includes all the sides and they cut your meat right at the table. She said the salad was excellent but her prime rib was cold, and how does that happen in such a fancy, Red velvet appointed setting?

We have a local joint, The Sycamore Inn that is first rate and the prime rib is more generous and a little cheaper. It reputedly was once a stop on the Butterfield Stage Line in the 1880’s. And they do draw a crowd. WE have been celebrating special events there for 50 years. It’s easily comparable to Fleming’s or Ruth’s Crise. Those are both excellent, to be sure, as is Lawrey’s in Pasadena. But our’s is local and just as good.

Yeah so not much to report. I had a stomach ache today, very unusual. Took a dump and I’m all better. My son and his wife, Page went out tonight for their anniversary, leaving Shelley to take care of me for a few hours. Now get this, 14 year wedding anniversary and the little lady is happy and satisfied to be taken for a night of browsing the isles at the local Walmart Super Center. WOW! Where did he find a wife like that? Yes, that’s the truth, shopping at walmart.

We have been having some trouble with the oxygen generating machine, it either beeps or just shuts down. Called the rental company and they said it’s usually because there are kinks or other restrictions in the airline. So, my son changed it, even though he couldn’t find any obstructions. I think they should be trotting out another machine, but what do I know?

Not much else to talk about. I have an appointment with a cardiologist tomorrow. Personally, I think it is grasping at straws, but I guess I’m willing to make the appointment….this time. Last time I just canceled the appointment because I didn’t feel up to it. My primary didn’t think that was too cool. Can’t help it, I do not think there is anything wrong with my heart. Could be wrong, I guess?

That’s it, all I can think of for now. TTYL!

Okay, we, the whole possee made the appointment at 1:30. This was a cardiologist I haven’t seen before. First thing, being pushed through the door, in my new wheel chair, the nurse said HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I guess they notice details?

Anyway, this guy didn’t exactly say that we were wasting his time, but he made it clear that blaming my condition on my heart was quite a stretch. Said my heart is fine; which I already knew. It is why I canceled the previous appointment because I really wasn’t feeling up to it. So, I blew it off, and my primary didn’t like it. But at least we can cross it off the list.

Next is an appointment with somebody in the Pulmanary Department. I suppose the know a thing or two about lungs. Yes, I am very interested in hearing what they have to say. It could very well be grim news, but I might as well know what it’s about.

Seems like the lungs don’t get a lot of attention, or am I mistaken? My wife died of 4th stage lung cancer. They did n operation and scrapped a cheesy substance from her lung to annalyse. She went right to Intensive care and never regained conscienceless. Died 9 days after entering the hospital. I never was even able to talk to her, even say good bye. 21 years ago and I still have resentment over the way it went down.

Anyway, I don’t know of any breakthrough procedures dealing with lung problems. Maybe they will surprise me, but I’m not counting on it. I can tell the Peanut Gallery that I sincerely regret those years that I smoked cigarettes. I quit in 1989. Don’t know if it helped or not? But smoking is what killed my darling Nancy. She quit too, and it didn’t do her much good.

Nor did it do my sister any good. She died of lung cancer too. She was a smoker. I believe they told her to go ahead and keep smoking, the damage is done. And she did, right to the last. Cigarettes are an evil thing. My daughter in law who is living with me now, she steps outside for a smoke. Hate to see it but, I guess it’s none of my business. Put it this way, I’d like to see her quit. But, I am not a Crusader.

My dad and mom were smokers. Dad quit when I was 5 years old.
Said the only time he missed it was during the fall hunting.
He got bladder cancer and it went into the kidneys.
Mom smoked forever. She got COPD and the lungs quit her.
Grandmother and Great Aunt both smoked. Everyone back then smoked.
I've never smoked never wanted to. Stinks way too much.

aaah Leonard you old swede!

I smoke and yeah it5s bad habit but do enjoy it, no one lives forever. Just because a person smokes does not mean he will get lung cancer, depends on how you smoke and how much. and just because someone dies from cancer it does not mean it was from smoking either unless you had lung cancer. People around here get cancer all time and many don't even smoke, but hey people have to blame something for getting it. Secondhand smoke that's another good one.
My dad died from cancer but not because he smoked. He got cancer from welding on new iron that didn't have the oil chemical removed before hand. My wife died of cancer, she never smoked.

Nothing to Da-nile. no real proof in what what does but hey they have to point a finger at something or they look bad. Yeah, they took a rat and shoved a hose in its glass box and then fed it cigarette smoke till it died then said sorry to say but cancer got the little bastard. Nobody smokes a cig. like that so how can you compare or even say, just a guess at most.

Interesting, Earthwalker. You know, my father had bladder cancer. He was told that is caused exclusively by smoking.

Anyway, they tried to ream out the cancer with some sort of eggbeater but gave up. They used a piece of his colon to fabricate a urine pouch and used some other gut to bring it to what they called a stoma that was a small nipple that he pierced with a tapered straw that drained the urine at intervals. Actually, my mother helped him with it usually because of where they located it, that was difficult for a right hander to do.

Eventually, he died when it because infected and he developed a high fe3aver that sorta fried his brain. 72 years old. He might have had many more years except for bad luck.

So, I/m hanging in there. Somewhat improved but it’s very slow. However, my appitire has improved, maybeI will gain back a few pounds? I’m down to 161 from about 200. I’ now 5’ 10” I lost an inch due to my knee replacement.

Nothing much to report, I’m on the friggin’ Nebulizer every day. Don’t know what else to do, but I have chronic shortness of breath. I can’t do much, tire easily.

And yet they say I can recover? I was told 6 months and it’s been about 2 1/3 months so far. If you missed it, my birthday was the 15th. I’m now officially 84 which seems ancient, if you ask me?

PS if I haven’t mentioned it before, (Prob have) but what I have is blood clots on both lungs, originating from they think my left leg. So, Im on blood thinners. All I got.

They told my dad any man that has ever smoked will develop bladder cancer if they live long enough. Who really knows?

It's a bad deal smoking as far as I'm concerned. My FIL smoked and so did his middle son.

I remember a propaganda that was circulated by Big Tobacco many years ago. They said that you could tell a smoker in autopsy by dissecting the lungs and viewing the black tar buildup. They also said that a person could quit smoking and within a year, the lungs would purge that black smoke tar and the lungs would appear as clear as someone who had never smoked. That’s a lot to unravel, I don’t know where to start, but it obviously does not convey the whole picture, if any of it is even partially true.

I will stick with; tobacco, in any form is a carcinogen and best avoided. My son had dipped since Little League. His teeth have suffered, lots of horror stories about removing the tongue and lips and things in the mouth. So, you do not need to inhale tobacco smoke for it to get you. I have something called Interstichil lung disease and I really don’t know much about it? I know it’s not good and it’s caused by smoking. I think the main thing is that it degrades your lung capacity. I won’t probably win any Marathons? My condition is located in the very lower part of each lung. I don’t believe there is any treatment? What’s done is done.
