Doom .... Despair ..... Agony and Grief !!!!!

This last July I put up 5 gallons of Prickly Pear fruit Mead into the fermenter. Today was time to rack & taste.
Total failure. Worse batch ever. I suspect that wild yeast contaminated the batch.
There's a whole lot about wine making that I don't know. [Eek!]

WOW, that’s terrible!

You should try again, right away.. It sounds delicious!

One little item of note; Tuesday is my 84th birthday! I expect at least a couple well wishes! If not, the flogging will continue until we get desired result!

edit: BIG NEWS! I took an unassisted shower yesterday! It was an hour and a half but I pretty much got everything, The dead skin was lots.

edit: and yes, I wore the oxygen tube in the. shower, tossed it up over the top. I sat on a stool in the middle and had all the stuff on the floor, so it’s not so far to fall. everything, brushes shampoo, even my hair brush to remove any knots and tangles. The distraction was from my :Handlers” sticking their head through the outer door every 5 minutes asking if everything was all right. I don’t think they thought I could do it unassisted? Yes, it was at least 1 1/2 hours, but I attended to everything I could reach. It’s not too bad sitting on the floor and I had the high window open and a fan blowing through the open door. It was a little drafty, but I was afraid of all the steam being a little stiffling?

There are a number of different prickly pear, I one I have is (I think) called Beaver tail. The tunas are yellow. I have a bunch. What do you mean; 5 gallons? you mean actual 5 gallons of the fruit? Or is that some kind of smashed concoction?

and what could have gone wrong? Where did the “wild” yeast come from?

I used about a gallon of fruit that I scorched the needles off of, then peeled and crushed. The fermenter is a 5 gallon lemonade dispenser that I added a CO2 lock to.
The wild yeast is just that; comes with the fruit. There are products to use that will kill the bad stuff and make room for the good stuff that I didn't use.
Still learning. [Cool]
