Yes, Last night about 3am, while going to the bathroom, I fell. Then I went back to bed and layed down. Then, I remembered why I was going to the bathroom and got out of bed, and damned if I didn’t fall in exactly the same place, but this time I couldn’t get up and I was bleeding. So, I used my whistle and waited but got no response! At that point, I crawled over and got my dead blow mallet and pounded on the wall. That got COrey down stairs to assist. Hurt my back and my left hip and eventually got to sleep and slept until 11. I took some morphine too.

Then, while Corey and Leonard went to Lowe’s to look at additional hand hold brackets, or whatever they are called? So, I was again going to the bathroom, and there again, same frickin’ place, I fell on my face, just collapsed. Shelley tried to pull me to my feet without any luck, then Page gave it a try and she couldn’t get me up either. I had to wait until I felt a bit stronger then made the effort and I was able to sit on the toilet. Naturally, as soon as things were getting back to normal, the boys showed up.

Just in time to dress new wounds with Neosporin and those big square bandages.I have three separate bandages above and below my left elbow. My back hurts and I have some different pain in my left butt, but I can’t call it broken hip, but it still hurts.

I’m back in the living room in my recliner. Corey has made an urgent request for more Albuterol, I have enough for 2 1/2 days and it takes apparently 5 days to get it. That’s SOP with Kaiser, always some burocratic delays, drives me nuts!

So, I asked Shelley to contact my doctor and advise him about all these falls and see what he thinks. I suspect he will say-go to emergency or call 911. Or stay in bed? Who knows?

I am a mess. Doesn’t seem to get any better, I don’t know what to do? But this is the worst experience of my life. Nothing else could compare. It’s terrible! Indescribable with terror mixed in. Words do not convey.

TTYL Folks! (if I don’t go nuts)Nah, I’m sure that I will survive,

BUT IT TAKES TIME!

edit: Well My son already installed 3 of those hand holds that are used in the shower but he has the stregically mounted so I can lower myself to the toilet and afterwards, to pull myself up off the stool into an upright state. It should help, but of course, it looks rather unconventional but if it helps and prevents another fal ….
or 2? then I guess it’s worth the effort. Regardless that it’s odd to see these handles outside of a shower. I will definately use them!

Hang in there Leonard and don't try to fool yourself about your hip. Very bad for us old farts.
Those days of being rugged brushrunners are over and we just have good memories to keep us sane.
I'm a young and spry 76 year old and my wife is 80 and believe me I am always concerned when things go south with her and I have to help her. Geese we sure do get some colorful bruises don't we. Anyways enough rambling on. Take care and always keep your head on the stright and narrow. No matter what befalls you, me, anybody,Remember, things always get better. You got to believe that.

Yeah, that’s the truth! Right now I have extra sore buttocks. You know sometimes the butt muscles are just sore for some reason? Sore butt muscles! How do they get that way, I don’t know but in this case, it must be a result of falling and the effort to get back on my feet. Beats me, I just know sometimes that big muscle, (am I repeating myself enough?) I can’t think of why my butt is sore, but sometimes it just IS! Anyway, I have sore butt muscles and it is because of falling; that’s all I know?

I certainly have a full house this morning. I was up past 1am last night, up at 9. And Did I mention that my butt hurts? I had one of those berry pies for breakfast. We have a solution for the nebulizer pipeline problem and Corey can order at midnight. Two hound dogs can easily control a whole couch. I have two couches in here, which theoretically is enough for 4 dogs. I draw the line when they try to climb into my antique upholstered chair. Putting 2 pillows on the seat seems to give them a hint.

Dogs aren’t a problem. They are mostly well behaved. Only Lady, the one that is a spitting image of Tillie, she’s a barker, and she’s spoiled rotten by Page, my son’s wife. They kind of cuddle, it’s a little sickening, and cute, at the same time. She’s a damned good looking hound, I think. Two of them, Magnolia and Grace are the two that are marked like English Coonhounds and I have a hard time tellin them apart.

Then we have the tan and white, “Little Girl” who is called a red tick hound, and finally, the youngest and spoiled Bluetick that is a sister to Tillie, sME MOTHER AND FATHER, BUT a different litter. Yeah, I don’t know how it happened, but the Sire died 1 or 2 years ago from Heartworm. We don’t seem to have that out here, but they were in Missouri, at the time.

I have a new machine with a ball and a flat disc. They both rise when you suck on the tube. Seems simple, and stupid, but some people swear by it, so I have been using it, once in a while.

We have dog chew toys all over the floor. This is a big room, still room enough for two dog beds, when they get tired of hogging sofas. But, don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the company, dogs and people. The house is a mess, BTW.

I have two urnals, one next to my recliner and the other is on my bed.If it saves me trips to the bathroom, where most falls occur, then that’s a good deal. Actually, I think I need to go #2? BRB.

Today, a rare nap! Looks like about 3 hours? When I got up, they had coconut water and Diapers and nasal spray and fresh strawberries. I just had bean wITH BACON SOUP. It was ok because I was starving boy what I really need is Homestyle Chicken noodle soup. They better get some.

So, I had one accident, didn’t make it to the bathroom one time and now they think I need to wear pull-ups all the time. I’m not convinced.

They have the damned TV on constantly. Doesn’t seem like they are watching it. Grae is wanting to make friends. She’s one of the English coonhounds. The one I gave the rest of my pea soup to yesterday. Maybe that’s why she appears so friendly?

I actually feel a little better today, Hardly no chest pain. I’m breathing better. Right now I am “nebularizing” with Albuterol. I better get a re supply soon. Can’t be without that stuff!

They are taking orders for IN & OUT right now. Normally, I’d get the Double/Double but I opted for the regular cheeseburger. Maybe I can handle most of it, It’s been a long time since I’ve had any kind of burger.

Well, that’s it for the Albuterol. I will now do the saline solution and get it over with. So far, it’s been one big happy family. Quite a change from living alone. But I don’t mean to say that it’s a problem. Just a little hectic.

I have been using the cough syrup. Over did it a couple weeks ago. Looked it up and it causes the inability to swallow and I had it. Very concerning so I have backed off of that stuff. Still need pain killers although now it’s mostly Tylenol and supposedly, can’t take too much of that, either.

Just had Magnolia, or Grace tangled up in my air tubing, Called for help before she pulled something lose. I have extra tubing but still.

So, up to speed. The good news is great I am feeling better, incrementally. Man, if I can get off anything, oxygen or any of the drugs, that will be fine with me!

I’m very sorry. Should be keeping the crew informed’

Well, there is so little to report right now. My progress is so slow that I can’t see much difference week to week, but I have a little less bruising. And, a little less pain. But the change is very minor. One thing that is really important is that I have less pain breathing. That really is a big deal. But wow, do I tire easily!

A walk to the bathroom is exhausting. I have urnals in the front room for when I make a decission that I will rush too fast to get to the toilet and fall or in many cases, I wet my pants and I request a change of pajamas while sitting on the toilet. Also a wet wash cloth to clean my legs of pee. So, I have I think 6 pair of pajama bottoms and believe me they need washing frequently because of accidents. For some reason, I don’t really know how desperate I am until I stand up. Then I am racing. Some times I make it in time, sometimes I don’t; it’s just what it is.

One big issue is sleep. I seem to fight it. 2:30- 3.30, 4:30 and 5:30am. it’s ridiculous! And, most of the time, I need somebody with me. Just to be there. It’s not rational, at all. I understand that. But I have anxiety. It is something totally irrational, and I freely admit it. It’s fucking crazy, is what it is.

I keep telling my people how much I appreciate the enormous effort they are making. IT IS NOT EASY DEALING WITH THIS!

It’s a terrible thing. I have never heard of anything like this before. Blood clots on the lungs. Sounds harmless enough. Take blood thinners, right? Right! But, apparently my lungs are so damaged that recovery can take 6 months, easy. I’m almost 2 months into this shit, and believe me, it is incremental-at best. Sometimes, I can’t see any improvement.

OKay, I am much more careful about fainting and falling! My son installed some of those hand hold pipe things that you see in showers so I can grab them as I rise off the commode. Falling and fainting means injuries. My arms have had many serious ripping off of my paper thin skin on my arms, elbows and I manage to kick the damned floor with my feet. I have several broken toes and my feet are swollen, puffy. Imagine just kicking the floor with your feet as I flop down. Nobody wants to kick the floor with their toes but that’s what I have done, a few times and most toes except the pinky is bruised black and blue and ugly swollen in the knuckles. Hard to explain but my feet are a mess, all puffy on the flat part. I’ve never seen anything like it?

So, I don’t know when, but am told that I will get better. Physical therapy was here today with the chair yoga stuff. I use special impregnated wipes, head neck, underarms, groin area and apply aspercream to my feet once in a while. Not much to look forward to.

The actual painful breathing is toned down. I take half a NORCO several times a day, that’s all I got in the way of pain relief. I must ration them and I get zero sympathy from anybody; doctor or family. NOBODY EVEN UNDERSTANDS WHAT I’M GOING THROUGH! Frankly, it’s driving me nuts! Y’all have NO IDEA!

It’s a fucking nightmare, folks! You might pray for me, if you have a mind? Just might help? Who knows?

This thing started with very difficult breathing. Couldn’t figure it out? Right around the 4th of July I was talked into going to EMERGENCY.

They first rolled a portable X-ray to the Bay, and an hour later, rolled me down to the CT scanner. Another wait and the emergency doctor informed me that I had significant BLOOD CLOTS ON BOTHE LUNGS!

I was like, HUH? they admitted me and I had an IV drip of Heparin(?) for the next 3 days and they sent me home with about ten needles and after that, and ever since, I get a BLOOD THINNER CAPSULE twice a day.called Dabigatran Etexilate 150mg.

And I take a whole bunch of Albuterol “nebulizer” followed with inhaling a .9% Saline solution.

They say that I will be on blood thinners forever. This is signifant mainly because my blood will lack a significant amount of CLOTTING ABILITY. Depending, I guess I could bleed to death with a large cut or a bruise.

So, a week later, after a couple faints in the bathroom while getting up off the toilet too quickly I pitched face first while walking using a can, which helped me none at all. My left eye was swollen shut for the next 3 days and believe me, I was terrified! But, it gradually got better and BOY AM I CAREFUL WALKING BEHIND A WALKER, NOW!

I have an oxygen generator with 1/4” tubing strung all over the ground floor and sometimes a dog is laying on it. I have this tube thing shoved up my nose practically all the time. Requires maintenence, wetting a finger and loosing the snot that builds up in my nostrils.

I have not wore anything but a tee shirt and pajama bottoms since day one. Even to doctor appointments and I went to Costco once.

I have a portable OX2 generator when leaving the house, like for Dr appts. I have a tank of oxygen too, but haven’t had to use it, I guess as long as we have electricity to run the O2 generator. That machine needs maintenance. every 6 months.

So, that’s the long and the short of it. They say I’m not going to die of this shit, but I’m not convinced? In fact, they say it’s a good chance that I won’t need supplemental oxygen eventually? Of course, I have two of those gadgets that you put on your finger to measure your O2 content.

The Peanut Gallery is now pretty much up to speed. My son and his wife and four coon hounds, very spoiled coon hounds, have moved in with me. Actually I love the dogs, they are very behaved and sure know how to take up a couch, which they brought along big throw covers to protect my furniture, but like I said they don’t make a mess and do not rip or tear anything. Extremely well behaved dogs, I have to give them that! Did I mention that they are spoiled rotten? Yes, they are and I see no harm done. Truthfully, they don’t bother me or get in the way. Maybe it helps that I have owned coon hounds for many years and I am a big fan?

That’s it, folks. Just hanging in there for now and hoping for the best.

Yes, the dogs have been therapeutic. You know, they ask for very little and offer so much. I’ve always been a big fan of dogs. One thing I have trouble with is giving them pieces off my plate. Owners strongly object, so I have to go with the program.

New thing is that I find napping st a touch easier, not many so far but at least once in a while. That has always been me, can’t do it. But, lately, I have managed a couple times and I think it’s a big deal, maybe can happen regularly.

I have a pill I take at bedtime and it works, but I’n scared to death of it. Maybe I will get used to it but I’m scared and cautious. Don’t know why? I’m the same way about any sort of tranqualizer. I do not trust them, it’s fucking “mind altering” no matter how they frame it. Can’t help it! The last two nights, suddenly was out like a light. I guess it beats not being able to sleep in til 4am, which is more normal with me lately. So, I told the doctor about how I couldn’t sleep and this is what I asked for so what do I expect? I don’t like drugs, period! When I do take them, most times, I take a half a pill. They are small, in most cases. Hard to believe shush a small amount can alter a mind. Like this woman in the news that is on trial for killing her kids. I think she was taking about 15 drugs? Well, fuck! what could happen? Keep this shit at arm’s length, if you know what’s good for you! NOPE!

Glad to see you are still alive and kicking. Had me worried there for a day that something bad has happened. So grateful my thinking was flawed.
Hang in there Leonard, and those blood thinners aren't as bad as you may think and will eventually ,hopefully, get your lungs back to sorta normal.

Last time I was at doctors he said anyone over 60 should take a blood thinner. Aspirin in my case daily to prevent blood clots.
