Things have quieted down at the Bosinski compound. I found a good pair of glasses. WEll, they will do until I can get an eye exam and buy stronger. So when can that happen? Not sure?
But I have had two days of quiet and rest. I’m sure I didn’t need the rehab they were strongly pushing. The only thing is, the physical therapy didn’t happen, for some reason? Maybe they thought I was going to the “NURSING home” or whatever they called it. My daughter tried to tempt me by saying it’s CO ED! Lots of eager chicks! Sex has not interested me lately. Hard to believe?
Pinky missed me. He was very happy to see me. The strangers that were feeding him, I think he tolerated them and of course did not understand where I was. Can’t blame him for that. I had him out walking around this morning. He went straight for under my desk. He likes chambers or something. My gun safe is in the aviary and whenever I open it he stretches like crazy, gets up on a chain and tries his damndest to look inside. I mean, it is bolted to the floor, in the far corner of his aviary and he sees it all the time but hardly ever sees the door open and he tries his damnest to see what’s inside!. He is facinated with dark chambers. He has made a couple holes in the wall around electrical outlets?(edit: since repaired), maybe a nesting instinct? If he chews a nice hole maybe a girl Cockatoo will fly by and sparks will fly. The nesting ritual is important to all birds. Stimulates the mating instinct. And he is a boy with hormones. PS HE LIKES GIRLS! He knows the difference and get’s very chummy with all females!
WE go to the Magnolia Bird Farm in Riverside once in a while. It’s a great place. They offer FREE nail clipping and Wing clipping. It’s an amazing resource and people, like me, come from miles around to get their birds claws and wings clipped. And it’s a FREE SERVICE! I’m 35 miles away, but it is worth the drive to get him trimmed. I only get the claws trimmed but I’m thinking he needs the wings clipped since he accidentally discovered that the little rascal can fly! He’s 20 years old and flew for the first time about a month ago.
So, If he flies around his aviary that’s fine. But now I can’t put him outside unless he is in his cage with the door locked. This is all new. He used to sit on top of his domed cage all day, and never thought to try flying. But he has flown twice and the last time it was about 40 feet and it was effortless, like he has been doing it all his life. This changes things and I can’t put him out unless he is confined in the cage, (like right now) OR< I TAKE HIM TO MAGNOLIA BIRD FARM AND HAVE HIS WINGS professionally clipped.
He wouldn’t try to escape, but he could get in trouble. One time several years ago, I wasn’t paying any attention and he managed to climb up the Lemon tree and wouldn’t come down. I squired him with the hose then had to climb up and get him. I do not let him climb up trees any more! Besides that he chews the damned branches. He can be pretty destructive, compulsive desire to chew twigs for no reason at all. He’s a freeking beaver! And he likes soft wood like my Plumarias and the Fig tree. I have around 16 or so Plumarias and they are not small, one is about 30 feet tall.
So, caring for a Cockatoo is like a dog or cat. Needs grooming and fed a proper diet. Anyway, he’s a happy Boy. And I was shocked to learn that their normal life span is like a friggin’ tortoise! 75-80 years! Need to make provisions in the WILL!
