So, this guy was assigned to me when my long term Dr retired. He wants me to sign a contract or something about narcotics.
My present need is more than before so I have a feeling he will ration that shit for my own best interests.
I’m a little worrried. Hope for the best, or at least enough medication so I’m not climbing the walls.
Somebody, post something! Don’t let the board die!

Sadly ......... That's not just a Calif. thing. Drs. are really gun-shy about prescribing pain meds. Maybe they think that you're getting a dose from them and another dose from a Dr. around the corner ???
I'm not big on taking the stuff, but damn it, when you need it, you generally REALLY need it. I've been known to tell a Dr. ..... If this doesn't work do I double up on it or chase it with Whiskey ????

All Dr's around here are gun shy after the Oxycontin epidemic a few years ago. It ravaged places in east KY. People were hooked left and right. I know some people need this stuff for the right reasons. But the doc's were handing it out like candy. Big pharma made big bucks.

Things can change rapidly!
This morning I felt pretty good. Until I had a hard clumpy bowel movement, followed by bloody brick red diareh. Then a total of 4 times this morning and it was a lot of blood, when you add it up, we called the help line nurse and she wanted to know how many “cups” and I estimated at least 2, maybe 4?
Loot’s of advice followed and I was running into my appointment with the primary care Dr so we cancelled that and decided to call the paramedics, so they came and here I am, back in ER for the 3rd time in a little over 2 weeks.
I’m scheduled for another CT scan, just had portable X-Ray and then I’m getting a colonoscopy, But I don’t know what order? I do know that I’m being admitted again.
So, I suppose it’s going to be a long day. They won’t give me a damned thing! I’m dying of thirst!
So, I am assuming that all those cautions about “BLOOD THINNERS” and the ramifcations, specifically the uncontrolled bleeding are proving true.
I looked at all the blood results from the lab and it’s all verified. No stomach pain. so I assume it’s coming from my small bowel. I had a “re section” about 4 years ago where they removed about 36” of diseased bowel. Since then, I’ve been quite stable. No Crohn’s related problems.but they say that anyone with one surgery will eventually need another. Depressing. You NEED 23 feet of small bowel or it’s very inconvenient. If you know what I mean?
Boy, I sure hope this turns out. I do not need another surgery! I mean, unless I need it, of course.
Shelley is a good trooper but she is exhausted. She has her own health problems with diabetic low this and that. She just left to get something to eat. And I’m waiting.
That’s the thing with hospitals. Fucking waiting for everything. I’m wondering about the bill for all this shit.
I can’t get free stuff from MediCal because I got too much money. That is a joke. My pathetic little pension disqualifies me from all the free services that they offer to any Iranian bomb thrower. I wouldn’t mind food stamps, or anything like some kind of home care.

All day theynwouldn’t let me have any water or juice. Now I’m admitted from EMERGENCY to room 512. Yes, fifth floor and not very far from My previous room.
But after not giving me anything all day and half the night, now I’m going to be drinking GO LIGHTLY ALL FRIGGIN NIGHT!
This is for my Colonoscopy in the morning. But it’s good to flush out all the blood. And, did I mention passing A LOT OF BLOOD?
Where is it coming from? We don’t know, so that’s why I need another CT scan. I guess it’s better to be all cleaned out for the CT scan.
What I know is that I won’t be getting any sleep tonight. Drinking that foul liquid and then you are on the commode, and back and forth ALL night long.

edit: and we can’t forget that after the CT scan, I’m scheduled for a colonoscopy! They aren’t actually too bad, if they let you eat afterwards. But I’m in for a rough night, dreading it. Shelley just left, I’m on my own. My son is as he always is; difficult.
Shelley has been doing a group blog or whatever they call it? To all the family, grandkids etc. He doesn’t want to be in a group chat. Don’t ask, I don’t know? Anyway, I got nothing to do

Damn Leonard, you don't paint a pretty picture here. That loss of blood has to be very worrying and will leave you very weak. But being an old brush runner I do believe you will survive this ordeal just because your a tough ol goat. Our prayers are with you . Hang in there.

Hang in there Leonard. Have you tried telling them you're illegal that might get you some free healthcare. Seems to work at the hospital where my daughter works.
Free everything, rides back-and-forth to the hospital, free lunch. They don't have a care in the world.

Serious thought here. I wonder if anyone has renounced their US citizenship and become an illegal. You know, to get the free stuff. Seems like that strategy should work. I need one of you to be the first guinea pig though before I try it.

Funny thing at your age they should let you have all the dope you can handle.
When wife was sick with cancer and just waiting for her time, she got pain killers with label saying caution they can be addictive. Thing is why should they worry about that on their death bed???

Little tip for you Leonard if you have to cough up mucus. Lay flat on stomach/ face down and then cough to clear your throat or lungs. you get same results if someone swallowed a lot of water swimming or drowning, you place on stomach and clear airways. give it a try. Oh, another thing don't drink milk or other dairy products it just makes it that much harder to get mucus out..

I’m just trying to relax.
My daughter flew out last night to go home. Her husband is here now, metering the drugs and supliments. He’s learning. I certainly appreciate the help.
I get panicky when I think I’m alone, Last night, I knew that he had rented a car, and they had left to take Shelley to the airport. I woke up and got a little stressed I went out side, sorta by standing at the door and opening the garage door to see if his rental was back. Found out later that he had come back from the airport over an hour earlier. Bur I didn’t know that and it started anxiety thinking I was alone and decided to self medicate.
he was upstairs the whole time, and I didn’t know that he had previously returned the rental car and they had used my car for the airport trip. Bottom line was that while I was worried, he had been upstairs the whole time since 6:30, but I didn’t know he was back.
What I mean is that I get anxious when I think I’m alone. He had come down to check on me when I had my eyes closed, and he thought I was sleeping. Maybe I was, but I had been awake waiting for him to return. He returned but didn’t convey that fat to me, so I was a little scared.
So I asked him to quit worrying about waking me up! Wake me up so I know he is back. Anyway, I think we worked that out, missed chances to know that I’m not alone. I think we are on the same wavelength now.
