Topic: ever have conflicts with health care?

Damn! I’ve been in a dither for a few days because my primary care doctor retired and they arbitrarily assigned another doctor. So, the first thing this dude did was cancel my refil request. And, can’t get to see him for 10 days! What the hell am I supposed to in the meantime? Not a good way to begin a relationship!
At great effort, I was able to see another doctor who did authorize my refil request; thank god!
I have a back condition called spinal stenosis of the L4,5 &6 lumbar. This is a genetic abnormality where the affected segments have a deformed opening that the spinal cord passes through, and it causes a side pressure, depending of body movement. Think of it as the opening in the middle of each vertibre is triangular rather than a perfectly round opening giving the spinal cord plenty of room for occasional movement.
So, there may be a few solutions. You can have an epidural at intervals, which had no effect at all. Then, there is spinal surgery, where they very carefully ream the opening to provide adequate relief. This is a non starter!
So, I take medication. Morphine sulphate. It allows me to stand on my feet for extended periods. I’m on long term therapy. over ten years. Anyway, it works. the only side effect is that I cannot consume alcohol, or I feel the effects of more than one beer, maybe one Margarita, but no more than that.
I have something that works for my condition and I am grateful. As long as someone does not QUESTION MY USE OF NARCOTICS! I’m as careful as hell, never exceed dosage and they require a urine sample every 6 months just to make sure that I’m not a junkie.
Anyway, This transition has been a pain in the ass, so far.

Couple of options;
(1) Call and ask to speak to your new Drs. physician's assistant and explain the situation to them. Drs. are paranoid about prescribing long term narcotics and their fall back position is "No".
(2) Failing that, call and ask to speak to Admin. about your new Dr. changing your treatment protocol without an in office examination.
I would also mention that ten days to see your Dr. is not quality health care.

Yes….well. I can see that you are unfamiliar with my provider, Kaiser.A telephone conversation with your primary care doctor, that’s damned near impossible, unless he calls you, which is scarce as hen’s teeth.

Oh, another thing. You can always see somebody, just not your regular doctor. When they are booked solid for ten days, you won’t be wedged in, but you can see someone else.

Another thing. Kaiser is a love it or hate it situation. I always had a very negative impression of Kaiser before I retired and got on Medicare. I like Kaiser now, except a few teeth grinding events. I do not consider Kaiser inferior in any way; but there are occasional issues.
