Just saw where a Ukrainian sniper with a 14.5 mm rifle has set a new distance record for a confirmed at 4,374 yards. Shot into a building window and hit two for one. 4,374 friggin' YARDS !!!
That's like getting close to over the curve of the earth. [Eek!]

Ya got some off season work to do, Tim. [Razz]

I hate recoil Koko or I would have done it already. LOL
But then what do they give out some sort of trophy?? Also who is going to stand at 4,400 yards for me so I can claim the kill???

As I remember, the rifle weighed in at 55 pounds and was tri-pod mounted. That might absorb a bit of the kick.

Pretty sure that the reward is strictly braggin' rights. Clearly, whatever country holds the record, has the biggest peckers and the hairy-est balls.

Coyotes ............ You're gonna want to set the new record with a coyote.
Just think; you could shoot at last year's den and hit next year's coyote at that distance. [Eek!] [Eek!] [Eek!]

Not sure I could even see a coyote that far. Would have to be in S.D. or Montana some place hilly. Locate a den then back away from it till I have 4,400 yards. and then need some of those target shooting cameras as you know I would need proof.
Not sure if bragging rights be worth all that.
How about a coyote at 1000's yards with 17 Predator??

No ..... no ...... no !!!

Anything .17 is Red Ryder stuff. Sell all of those kiddie BB guns and go out and buy a .50 BMG bolt action rifle. Truly a man's weapon.

A coyote at 4,400 yards !!! You could be a legend, but in a good way this time, eh ??

The last I knew, there was a group up in Western Washington hunting elk with a .50 BMG, bolt action. They had a banner at their booth at the gun shows 'Anything Under A 1000 Yards Is Too Close'. [Eek!]

A guy on Sauiber.com (small caliber forum) went to a 1000 yard gun range and printed a group on a 1000 yard target with a 17 Rem. and then busted a few water jugs.

I ran track in high school. 1660 used to be a mile, before they, (illadvisadly) switched to the stupid metrics system. Alas, all my records are meaningless! They were in swimming, but same difference.

So, that’s about 2.6 miles? How does one confirm a shot like that, and my first question, actually is what rifle and what’s the specs? cartridge? Action? Barrel length?

Good hunting. El Bee 🐝

edit: oh! and what glass was he using?

It’s my understanding that the Russian army, they have generals strutting around engaging with the troops? They do not have a system of NCO’s, like in the US Army, there would be a first sergeant yelling at everybody. So, one would hope this sniper scored a general of some sort for a shot like that. Truthfully, there are too many variables for this record to be anything but luck.

Good hunting. El Bee 🐝

edit: I mean, a good group at that distance would be around 3 feet?

As I recall the article, it was 14.5 mm (big) with a four foot long barrel manufactured in Ukraine.
Not sure about the rest of the details.
Could be a 'You're not safe anywhere, Ivan' propaganda or could be for real.

Its basically a anti-tank rifle that was modified some.

As for High school track I also hold the school record for high and low hurdles and 880 relay. They still on record and will never be beat unless school goes back to yards vrs. metric system.

I may still hold my High School record for time spent in the Principle's Office.

Sorry but that's my other record plus time expelled from school. Get sent home so put my work clothes on and went out to farm to work. It paid better than school.

I think we got a three way tie for trips to the office and detention.

But, yyeeah an anti tank recoilless rifle would make a lot of sense. I recall Carlos mounted a scope on a M2 50 cal.

Good hunting. El Bee
