We got another super bowl coming up, whether we like it or not!

Who’s playing?

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on February 08, 2026, 03:38 PM:

From the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum? Wow, been there once or twice. Weather will be nice, outside.

Oh for krist sake, they got a dozen “Captains” on the field for the coin toss! WTF?

Man, Joe Montana looks a little shakey? Dressed for a funeral.

Now we have this clown Bad Bunny. It’s a mess!

And I’m prob mistaken? I don’t know where it’s played?

I turned it on just to see what the B/S was all about. Some hoto in a Zoot Suit prancing about. Turned the volume off and put on a ZZ Top tape. Now, THAT was entertaining !!!
Ok ........ back to eBay. [Cool]

I think next year we should take a vote.

Supper Bowl or the Puppy Bowl?

4 field goals?

I actually remember the first Super Bowl. It was a pay per view and this was before anybody had cable. They had a special antenna if you weren’t there in person. It was kinda yawn. I don’t remember.much about it of course. Seems like they played at the Rose Bowl?

THere is no doubt that Seattle coaching is superior. That’s the game, so far 19-0

Well ........... there's always the Doo-Dah Parade coming up in Nov. [Cool]

Was there ANYTHING about those three hours that DIDN'T suck ?????

The game ????
The half time show ???
The commercials ????

Actually, there was a Red Bull commercial that reminded me of El Bee & Tillie. [Big Grin]

That should cover my urge to watch a football game for the next several years.

Watched Olympic Curling. Team USA made it to the semifinals.
Went back and forth on the idiotscope and the football game sucked and I ended up watching the Olympics.
Who would have ever thought that watching some girl and some guy spin a big rock on the ice would be better than a bunch of big guys beating each other up over a football?

I've watched curling once or twice.
What I don't understand about it is ........ Why ??? [Confused]
I mean, most Olympic events replicate something of ancient military value. Run fast, run over obstacles, run to relay messages, vault over enemy walls, throw javelins, or rocks at the enemy, or shoot arrows at the bad guys.
But ........ what's the point of curling ????? [Confused]

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on February 09, 2026, 06:30 AM:

I understand the sentiments expressed, completely.

Curling is so bizzaire, I guess it’s worth watching. For a while. And, like ko ko said. or stated or asked: why? That’s a fair question.

I must have missed the commercial that reminded ko ko? I think there is usually a site that lists all Super bowl commercials? Gives me something to do.

then, there’s this about the GodAweful Halftime show:

Ha,Ha. There is no POINT lol. They are 44 lb granite rocks that are round.
I suppose some bored winter trapped soul said to himself one day while contemplating life in a barren field of ice. What if I spend umpteen hours taking this ridiculously hard granite rock and chip it into a roundish stone. How far could I make it slide on this here ice field ?
Three months later with his prize rock in tow, he spots ol Hans' ice fishing shack and Hans is inside, hoping he could maybe catch a fish. So Flynn,I can't pronounce his real name, ssays to himself. " I bet ol Hans is gonna crap his britches when my shiney rock come sliding and crashing into his shed Ha,Ha,ha".
And the sport of curling was invented.
And could you imagine having a 44 lb roundish rock dropped over a rampart and hitting your toes would do to any enemy? So see, it has its place as a combat sport. Lol.
I must have WAY to much time on my hands being retired to come up with such dribble.

Walt, I can find no fault with your logic.
I was thinking along the same lines, only with the ice fishermen standing next to their holes in the hard water and wishing that they were in a bar playing Shuffleboard instead. Next thing they knew, they were skidding their empty beer bottles at each other's fishing holes.
I can think of few other explanations. [Confused]

El Bee;
That Nat. Review article was a word salad worthy of Kamalala Harris.

The commercial mentioned was for Red Bull, involving a couple of dogs, an owner, a long leash and a tree.
It was kinda cute, unlike some of the ads that were so 'art-sy' that I had no idea what they were even promoting. [Confused]

Edit to add; Google red bull super bowl ad 2026 & you should be able to find it. That ad made more sense than the 1/2 time show.

I guess you never been ice fishing Koko. The kids are little different today but for us die hards the last thing on our mind is a bar.

A normal week staying on a frozen lake ice fishing goes like this.

On way to lake, we stop at small groc. store and pick up few groc. for the week and maybe a current hunting of fish magazine. Next stop is to pick up bait and anything else one might need on lake.
The houses are already there on lake from week before, so we just unblock them and then move to where we plan to fish.
Its a team effort, holes are drilled and cleaned out then house is set up over the holes. Get the stove going and unload groc.. go onto next guys house and do the same till all 5-8 houses are sitting over holes.

work is done each man goes to his house and starts fishing and just relaxing and wait for the walleye run to happen. Some of the locals that live by the lake will come out off and on during week to stop and visit and see how we are doing.

The best biting is at night from 7:00 on till midnight and then slow bite till morning and as the sun rises then the northerns move into the area, few bass and perch. then slow bite rest of the day.
Couple of guys will go ride their sleds around the lake and a few will go out with depth finder and look for new places to put the house or two..
I usually go back to shore and hunt or call red fox or coyotes for the day and return just before dark.
Meals are made and cooked in two of the fish houses and then we settle in for the night bite.
On Thur. nights it card night we gather in one of the houses and play cards for a few hours and the bottle is brought out. Canadian Winsor!
around midnight everyone returns back to their own house. Some of the houses also have a T.V. in them or just a simple radio.
You lay in your bed if you like and you listen to new ice form through the night with ice cracking like thunder and hear a crack rip across the lake from one end to other, its a awesome sound to hear and if you lucky to be close to the new crack zipping across the lake your house will vibrate or jump a little, shake and so on. Nothing like it and pretty cool to see or hear.
Around Christmas we allow some of the ladies to come up to lake and stay for few nights or have some kids stay all week with us.
I have a smaller house that I pull behind my ATV and pull it over to one of the sunfish holes for the kids or I'll go alone and catch enough sunfish for a fresh fish meal for all of us. Life on the ice, nothing else like it...

I've never been ice fishing ....... ?????

[Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] Now, THAT'S funny.

Grew up in Southwestern Michigan. My 'ice shanty' was a cardboard refrigerator box. Man, that was stylin' out of the wind.

There was a lakeside bar on Fisher Lake that the adults would set their tip-ups out in a big arc in front of. They would then retire to the bar while watching for flags from the big bay window & run out if they got a strike. Some decent Northerns were caught every winter by those guys.

Good times ........ No desire to go back.

yeah sitting in bar all day can be little hard on a guy.

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on February 09, 2026, 11:55 AM:

Reminds me of the one about a guy, I believe it was Amarillo Slim who bet a guy a significant amount of money that he could drive a golf ball 600 yards, and he would pick the course and the day to prove it. Well, he selected a January day on a frozen lake in Texas, teed it up and hit that ball 3/4 of a mile past the far side.

So, pay attention to the conditions and the rules!

Good hunting. El Bee

I just had a thought (third one this year).
Since Bad Bunny's show was in Spanish, shouldn't he be referred to as Malo Conejo ????? [Confused]

Posted by Kokopelli (Member # 633) on February 09, 2026, 07:36 PM:

I stand corrected;
The correct usage would be ........
Conejito Malo.

Muy espanyo esty no bueno.

Did you know the curling stones only come from one island off of Scotland and it's mixture of two granites and they cost over a $1,000 each.

Good Grief !!!! [Eek!]
Just for yucks & giggles, I did the Wikipedia thing on Curling.
There seems to be people that take curling to the utmost extreme. Special rocks, special ice, special brooms, special shoes ............. serious stuff.
They even have a wheelchair division so more power to them !!!

I guess it's like GranPa used to say; "Anything worth doing is worth over doing."

That there is an amazing obscure fact, Earthwalker! I wonder at what point will they introduce hi tech synthetic Curling stones? After all, when you only have a single source, there won’t be an endless supply. It’s like I mentioned once, (or more) the single location for “Pipestone” that they use for fabricating Peacepipes is in northern Minneesota. I happen to have a couple Zuni Fetishes made of Pipestone and they are rare, unique and valuable, but not quite as valuable as my Bear fetish fabricated of amethyst crystal.
It’s an interesting little side hobby I have been collecting for decades. I need to decide who to pass it down to that will appreciate it/them.

Good hunting. El Bee

That story of the curling stone was in a rock hound magazine I get.
They use the two different ones one is harder to take the crashing the other is smooth for gliding.
