I still managed to do my bills on the first. My physical scores aren’t improving much, pushups and other timed things. Now it’s FICA!

Happy New Year!
to all the Peanut Gallery!

Becoming a better cook is another thing on my list.
Just finished making Fish Cakes with some trout that I caught the other day. [Smile] [Smile] [Smile]
Turned out really really good.
Losing a few pounds is also on my list. I'm seeing some conflict, here.

Just walked a quarter mile. It sure doesn't feel like the second day of January up here.

Two things. No use, at all, for “fish cakes”. Second thing; any trout is my worst eating fish and catfish, I won’t eat on principle, they are too fucking ugly! I know it’s not rational, but it works for me. Now, take Rainbow. Dangerous, you can choke on miniature bones you can hardly see! Too much effort searching for those treacherous bones! No thank you! And, the bigger they are, the less appetizing. So you need to eat a limit of 8 inchers for a decent meal. Salt water fish anre almost always better eating. Just my fearless opinion.

I like to cook trout skin on and then just peel the meat away from the bones just like eating a bullhead but better tasting. some fish it's just best leave skeleton intact and flake the meat off, a sunfish is another good one cooked that way. Too much good meat is lost if you try to debone them.

Yes, ...... As Tim implies, there is an art to eating trout. After cooking the creature, the head is gently lifted and a fork is used to separate the flesh from the bones. Flip & repeat, then deal with the small bones around the fins.

Channel Cats are a whole different critter. Fillet them out, dip in batter and oven bake. Just before they're done, lay a thin slice of Monterey Jack cheese over the fillet, and cook until golden brown. The Gods in Valhalla dine on such things with a glass of Mead.

My reaction is: Barf!

I know with practice, you can remove the whole skeleton in one piece, on Rainbows. But there are smaller bones that require dedication, prying and diligently searching until the flesh is stone cold and shredded before it’s safe to very carefully and thoroughly chew, (masticate) until positive there is no more fucking bones. Trust me, it’s not worth the risk or effort!

Especially when a nice grilled Halibut steak with lemon is available. Since Swordfish is on the DO NOT CALL list, you could do a lot worse than having yourself a nice piece of halibut steak-not fillet!
