It used to mean that a few foreigners might be selected to play for American teams, like Roberto Clemente or Pedro Garcia. Not actual teams located in other countries. As a non fan, you may not appreciate the distinction. But, I’m bummed about the slaughter last night! And what the hell was with several hundred Gospel singers in frocks raving and freaking out? Whoever thought that was entertainment aught to be taken out and shot!
Good hunting. El Bee

Bad Bunny's rehearsing for the Super Duper Bowl so they brought in the Holy Rollers ??? How quaint !!!
Was Fernando Valenzuela pitching for the Dodgers ??? I've heard that he's pretty good.
Here's a factoid; If they ever let the Japanese Leagues compete in the WORLD Series you'll see some over paid prima donna ballplayers get their asses handed to them. Just Say'n.

Actually, that’s the same thing as the Harlem Globe Trotters. My father was a very big Lakers fan. Before they moved to LA they were the Minneapolis Lakers. This was because of the Minnesota 10,000 lakes. Anyway, I was about 7 or 8, (just a guess) and I had said something to him about how the GlobeTrotters could so easily beat his favorite Lakers. So, he explained the facts of life to me, that the Lakers with George Mikken would wipe the floor with the jive ass Globe Trotters, in an actual game.
Another thing. Used to be, don’t know about currently, but the Dodgers used to play a series with I think their farm team in Mexico. A very competitive game, I don’t think the Dodges always won easily.
Good hunting. El Bee
edit: yes, Fernando was a product of the Dodgers Mexican farm scouting system. I don’t know how much world class talent he had or was it primarily Mexican hype? I guess he had some pretty good movement on his pitches, not especially a “flamethrower” but he definitely kept the batters back on their heels. I think he was a caggy pitcher with a fair arsenal of pitches. But, make no mistake, the Dodgers hyped the Mexican angle for all it was worth. I “think” he still does the Spanish language radio and TV broadcasts for some Mexican station. [ October 26, 2025, 06:37 PM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

That was quite a game last night. It might have been the longest or second longest World Series game in history? Did not end until almost midnight. So, the Dodgers go ahead 2 games to one, play tonight. Hope they win.

Ok ........... Since I realized that the last baseball game I watched involved Ichirou, Jay Buner, Ken Griffey Jr. and the great Rickey Henderson, I think that it's time I take a sit and enjoy one with a strong drink by my side.
Hopefully, this won't take all night.

Well ......... HooRay !!! Nothing that made me want to go spend a $100 for a Jersey to wear with somebody else's name on it.
That ought'a hold me for another year or two. ![[Cool]](cool.gif)

I agree with you, ko ko. These people go overboard with the gear. It is, or should be ok to attend a baseball game without looking like you are an actual team member. They have the home and away jerseys, every hat and just look at the stands! People are suckered into believing that you can not attend a baseball game without an overpriced team jersey and maybe several with different player’s names on the back….or some former player, Steve Garvey, Sandy Kofack or some other legend. Friggin’merchandise! A lot of money involved.
Yes, it is getting out of hand when I’m embarrassed to attend in person, dressed like a civilian.
Good hunting. El Bee
edit: But it turned out well for the patriots. I say fuck the foreigners. [ November 02, 2025, 03:04 PM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

Game 7 was one of the best I've seen for a long, long time. Mostly baseball bores me. But last nights game was anything but boring. That play at home plate with the bases loaded was called by less than an inch or two when I watched the replays. Can't get any closer than that. Glad LA sealed the deal.

I mentioned 'a $100 Jersey' to a co-worked and she literally burst out laughing at me while muttering something about 'Maybe for a sleeve'.
I have to wonder if rather than going out and actually doing a sport and working to develop skills to compete in that sport, at whatever level, people find it easier to become the 'Super Fan' and live vicariously thru their 'Team'. The fat guy, no shirt, team colors body paint, when it's 40* for example. .......... Then I get a headache and just go out on the patio and practice trigger control with my pellet pistol at the 40 yard gong. ![[Cool]](cool.gif)

It seems universally agreed that this was a classic series, with thrilling defense, but a lot of grumps about the very high player payroll. This is what they used to say, for many decades, about the New York Yankees. And face it, baseball culture has been dominated for a hundred years by American League, New York and Boston.
