Got rain overnight. The mountains, Mount Baldy, just north of me are snowed in, but at my elevation, I got rain, which is appreciated, none the less. Cold too, overnight was 40*. I'm at a little more than 1,000 feet elevation. I've had snow, once in a while, over the years, but the temperature has to get down into the 30's before it snows here.
In my old Dodge, I used to have an altimeter instrument on the dash, and many times, especially up in Nevada, I could keep just below the snow, at night for better visibility. Snow gives back too much sparkles to see eyes. Well, you CAN see eyes, but it's also easy to miss them, if it's snowing.
Anyway, I'm sitting here and kinda missing it, northern Nevada. Damn, it's an invigorating place to be in inclement weather. Don't expect any help, it's still the most remote state, this side of Alaska.
I'm sitting here, sold my truck, so I'm not exactly prepared to get into remote areas especially when the weather's bad. I've got something called "all wheel drive. Not sure if it handles bad conditions, it sure as hell doesn't have the ground clearance. I might be a blue bird conditions hunter, these days. Maybe I'll buy a truck? I do not feel confident, off road in a SUV? This is the first time that I have not had a truck since 1969, ya know?

Go get an SUV Leonard. They use those rigs rally racing if that tells you anything.
Yep. I love northern Nevada in the winter and it is mostly just small amount of snow that freezes because it gets so damn cold up there. But if you are prepared for crap to happen you'll be alright up there. Just don't crash and let someone know you are up there "SOMEWHERE" in case you don't show up for a few days.
I always told the wife to not worry til I was gone for 3 or more days than I told her I would be. I know,maybe kinda stupid to go out by yourself for days on end up there but I was sure of myself and have had to walk for a day to a ranch to get help.Once. That's just part of the game we play.

Yeah, Walt. I've done all that, too. Jackpot, Gabbs, Denio, Atlanta. Boy, do I hate those locked gates when I'm low on gas! As a courtesy, I just cut a link in the chain and wrap it up to look like it's still locked. But on BLM, that shit ain't cool!
One night, in Caliente, we just parked at the gas station, waiting for it to open in the morning. Sheriff drove by; asked what we were up to, and we told him. He said, if I go get him, will you take a fill-up for his getting him out of bed at 2am? I said hell yeah! And he was there and opened up 15 minutes or so later. We were very happy to be on our way and just as we were leaving another car pulled up to help make it worth his while.
You never feel freer than 30-40 miles off the blacktop in Nevada. And nobody else heard the shot!

edit: PS this all wheel drive is an Infiniti QX60, supposed to be like a Lexus, luxury item? I've never had it off the pavement, but it's a little too nice to get all dented up.
edit: I just googled this rig. Damn, I didn't know it's got 295 horsepower. I mean, I knew is'a bit peppy/V6 if I put it in "Sport"

You guys are going to be sad to know northern Nevada has been found by over landers and idiots. You wouldn't believe the Youtube videos of people crossing and showing places out there.
Probably not in the winter time but all other time of the seasons it's on Youtube.
