I have had this tool for....a long time. It's called a "SPEEDY STITCHER" and it's from a company called
SPORTSMAN'S POST, INC. 366 Madison Ave. New York 17, N.Y.
Does anybody know if or of a place that sells parts for this thing? extra needles, 20cents each 180 Course waxed thread $1.50 Bobbin with Thread fine/course .25 each
This is in the shipping box postage was 7 1/2 cents dated Feb.10'59
and sent to: Alfred P Beyer P O Box 57 Glen Elder, Kans
Maybe I picked it p at a yard sale? I only have 2 large needles and just the course thread on the spool inside.
I'd kind of like to order needles and more thread. Maybe I'll look them up on line, but this looks like the kind of company that went out of business when Buggy whips stopped being in demand?
I am positive that I've owned it for at least 30 years and regularly, every 5 or 10 years, I have a use for it. lol
Just thoought I'd share. My chore is finished, so nothing's urgent.
Good hunting. El Bee

eBay ............... 'speedy stitcher' ........ 481 hits.
If you have a Michael's Craft store nearby they should carry them. Or a Tandy Leather.

I have one out in garage somewhere and still has the waxed thread and stowed away with old fishing gear.

Well, thank you, all.
I had no luck googling? There is a Michael's craft store in town, and maybe even that Hobby store? Not in a rush, but this is an indispensable tool for a wide range of applications. I have no doubt it has a 100 year lifespan, and it's already been 65 years. It's just a basic.
I bought a digital tire pressure gauge from Costco. I bought a digital scale from somewhere else. both of those took a crap. The tire pressure gauge had a warranty and I sent it to a New York address. $5 postage. Never heard a word////maybe it didn't arrive?
Meanwhile, I'm still using two balance beam powder measures. And, the tire pressure gauge I bought in 1969 for my new Datsun pick-up is still perfectly serviceable.
Sometimes a few BUZZWORDS, like "digital" are the cheapest junk you can buy.
I'll give you another, since jumping on the bandwagon. I have a new Notebook from Apple. I'm still learning the touchscreen and it has so many instantaneous navigation features, it's mind boggling. And, it's so small and lightweight. No, I can't stick it in my pocket like my iPhone, but it is a computer, as opposed to a phone, and I know the distinction is getting blurred.
I'm presently on my MacBookPro 17" all Aluminum laptop. Bought in 2010 and I paid $2,500. Since I got away from PC's, it has been such a dependable machine, until Apple warned several years back that they would no longer support version 10.13.6. No more upgrades; go fuck yourself! Now, it's slower, maybe because it has so much clutter, and I've never tried to like clean it up, as I used to do constantly, with a PC.
What I don't like, with phones and computers is that you have to figure it out, hundreds of features, more likely thousands, that you can go a long time and not be aware of. Still, I do my banking on this old machine. That little Notebook is so sensitive that I can, and DID, wipe out my entire transferred bookmarks and contacts when I was just trying to move one item to the top. It's a blur, depending on which direction I swipe my index finger!
I'm more in tune with Handy Stitcher than a Notebook. And, son in law says this computer is soooooo slow, and will eventually die, (like me). I get it, those electrons get tired, move a bit slower, lack of exercise, fat around the middle, (except ko ko) like the rest of us.
Okay, beat this to death. Sorry for the rant; but what else does an old coot have to do besides rant, once in a while.
Yeah for Trump and fuck Biden! Liberals are such assholes!

I bought a model #91812 Quick Stitch Sewing Awl (and spool of thread) at Harbor Freight a few years ago to repair a camper awning.
A quick on-line search indicates that is a valid Harbor freight # but it does not show up in a search on their web page. Might be worth a try if you have a local store.

Try Googling 'an awl for all' All kinds of good stuff. That awl was in one of those retro Sear catalogs from back in the late 18oos. Yeah, some things were made right, are classic and will be around forever.

OK thanks. comment: there is nothing "quick" about using one of these things, at least at my level of talent. Everything I have mended or fabricated looks decidedly amateurish. But functional. I've modified a lot of hunting gear like backpacks and gun cases, rifle slings, etc. They look like some retard did it, but can't recall an actual failure?

Yes indeed. The stuff that I've made or repaired looks more like it was lashed than sewn but none of it has ever failed. I use the strands from old used bowstrings for the sewing thread. Nothing fancy. Somebody makes a device, looks like a cog wheel on a handle. It imprints the spacing for the stitching on whatever you're working on. Makes it look a little cleaner.

I looked into one of those fast awls years ago. After studying them and figuring them out I decided they weren't fast and too much trouble. I just use 2 needles long piece of sewing thread/leather and a regular hand awl. I can sew as fast or faster. Good luck.

OH? Okay, thanks!
You know, I bought my Cowboy Purse from some outfit in Wyoming. It's a Weaver, I just don't know if I bought it from Weaver directly or somebody else? I'm also sure it is at least 25 years old. Has acquired a patina or whatever it's called? I can probably say it's broke in.
I sometimes carry, in this purse. I have had some interesting discussions, entering various venues. My wife, or another lady would pass, surrendering her ticket, and the dude would say nothing to her, yet ask ME to open in my "Briefcase" as they usually call it! If they don't back off, I will walk away, siting the fact that they didn't bat an eye at yje woman's purse, but a MAN PURSE needs to be examined.

How much fun would it be when some security guard challenges you to go full on Gay on them ???? "WHY are you singling me out, DARLING ???" "Is there SOMETHING about me that you don't APPROVE of ???" "This is OUTRAGEOUS and I'd like to speak to your supervisor before you try and TOUCH me." Even better if a crowd gathers.
Sometimes ..... A chain is just hanging there and needs to be yanked.
Or ........ Just buy a Sneaky Pete Holster.

Man! Thanks for the suggestion, BUT. I couldn't play Gay if my life depended on it!
I might do (IN YOUR FACE), with low threatening, Clint Eastwood voice w/lip curl: "touch that fucking bag and I will fucking break your arm!"
But, light in the Loafers, can't manage that one. Sorry!

Yeah, it takes practice. In another world where I worked we had a little Neo-Nazi electrician who hated everybody and every thing. We'd get on the P.A. system and give it the "OOOH Could that big strong hairy chested electrician bring his great big tool out to line three and fix my thingee ??" He'd get out there and nobody knew a thing ...... Management finally made us stop but they took their time doing it. We had some card games ($0.25 a hand Tonk) in the break room where the entire conversations were full on flame. Best was a bull dyke that used to join us for a few hands and could hold her own. Good times ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

That reminds me of when I worked for Bulldog Electric in my mid twenties. We had a woman, and come to think of it, I don’t even remember what the hell she did? But, she wore pants, like Kacki’s maybe genes, but I din’t really remember that? She wore men’s short sleeve buttoned front shirts with the sleeves rolled up. Short hair, in a long Pomadore; you know the actual code dress for a bulldike..However, she was a nice lady, got along with everybody and never talked about personal stuff, I’d guess her age was pushing 50? Well, that’s it. Her name was Maggie. Wonder what ever happened to her? I hope she lived well. I suddenly remember seeing her get a little emotional one time, a feminine reaction.
