It's an ancient method of marking slashes on a cliff face with Roman numerals and later "Arabic" numerals
which are a little less clumsy for most folks.
So, to accept the common understanding of time, "they" say the earth was created exactly 4.5 Billion years ago.
However, now we have conflict between Mayan calendars and the Old Testament and the generally accepted starting date being the birth of Christ, something about AD and BC, therefore we calculate that right now, it's been 2,025 years, with 365.33 days per year. I have to stop now because I'm not sure of any of it.
But, when you think about it, just the fact that the civilized world has decided to agree on the birth of Christ as the basis for keeping track of seasons and months and years, it's rather amazing. Yes, I know the Chinese have a greater database but even they do not pay in much attention for practical purposes.
But just for curtesy sake, we can acknowledge that the Chinese calendar is racking up numbers beyond 5,000 or so, but I bet none of them could tell you the origin of the base year? Was Kung Fu baptized then, or maybe Halley's Comet was first seen by our Asian friends? I do not know?
So what about AD and BC? How did they know? They could write 2025less i00 is when the Penalpolician(sp) Wars were contested. and if you got this far, we just don't know why everything changed at midnight, but you have to comply and write that date for the next 365 days or so or until the radical A rabs nuke us.
