Seems to have started big time over this past weekend.

I can't believe the fires started from stupid people. Know of 3 right now. One is 200 acres, not sure of the other 2.

30-40 mph winds yesterday afternoon with this cold front that came in. Had a lot of stuff gathered up. Sounded like the west side of the state got higher wind speeds.

I know town up here was like a circus yesterday. Only know of one possible fire up here. Don't know how big it got or anything else?
Hope they all went home yesterday.

Well, we finally got one down here. When I went out this morning, my car was covered in ash. a neighbor said there were two, one westerly and the other to the east.

But that big one in northern CA apparently was started by somebody using a incendiary fun party device. Gee they didn't know, can't hardly blame them for stupidity. <sarcasm>

But they know who started it and apparently intend to make them pay for the firefighting effort. I'm skeptical, I bet they get away with it!

The Grouse fire in the upper end of the south fork of the Boise river has a good fire going caused by an nimrod on a atv.

Cambridge has a real good one going 12k now what I just read.

Don't think our engine call out amounted to much last night.

Couple others of concern is the Buck just south of Yellow Pine and the Porphyry out of the Hettinger Ranch on the south fork of the Salmon. It's up on the ridge line basically between Big Creek and there. about 5700 acres now all just before bow seasons start for elk and deer. Fire season has been very late up here this year like over a month late.

Yup windy as hell yesterday. I'm hearing temps in the high 30's tonight ? too damn tired to look [Smile]

Anyway the wife's aunt & uncle got evacuated last night from the Cambridge Idaho area.

Haven't heard anything official yet, we don't think their house burned.

I can say from first hand experience that a house fire was one of the worst experiences of my life. Almost as bad as losing a loved one.

In January 2015, our home burned to the ground. My wife and I barely made it out alive with just the clothes on our back. We lost everything we owned that cold night. Those who are losing their homes out west have my deepest sympathy.

Semp,
Know what you mean. Lost everything in a house fire that burned it to the ground. Just the wife and our two little girls.at the time, made it out a window all of us butt naked. Neighbor brought us some blankets to wrap up in. No insurance so we just had to bite the bullet and start over again with less than what we started with when we got married. But hey, we lived to tell about it. Just another life experiance. Just have to buck up and get over it.

Wow! Those are some awesome testimonials! I know about losing a loved one, and your house burning to the ground is serious shit but like death? Had not thought of it that way, but I accept the theory and it truly must be awful.

I've never kept a safe deposit box, but I am sure it's a good idea. Pretty soon, you start needing a bigger box. Next thing you know, you need a "safe deposit room". When I think about it, there's not all that much of my junk that I would be lost, without. I'm kind of a hoarder, right down to the odd nuts and bolts and screws.

Man, I just looked southwest and DAMN! there is some kind of a serious fire over there! And, there's nothing but homes in that direction? I might have to mosey out there and check it out!

Apparently this is what's called the "Bobcat Fire"? It's in the foothills above Monrovia which is about 18 miles due west of me. I just read something that said they don't expect containment until October 15? That seems ridiculous but that's what it said? At least the winds are calm.

What can be done about all these fires? I saw a map with little flame ikons over the state of California and it looked like maybe 40-50 separate fires? They are evacuating a bunch of foothill communities, from Pasadena to Azusa and La Verne. Where's the friggin' Bombers?

Fires from border to border on the west coast.
Fires from Arizona to North Idaho.
Fires from N.M to Montana border.
Everything is spoken for and no one is letting loose of any equipment or crews.

Just looked at the Woodhead Fire at Cambridge and it's almost into town through BLM and private lands.

Never believe you're safe just because there is farm land out there.

Yeah or even a residential area. Hundreds of homes burned in Oakland and Anaheim Hills.

Smoke from your California fires, have my visibility in southern Arizona at about 8 miles. Put those fuckers out so I can see! Good gawd its hazy and nasty, swear I can smell it but faint.

Smoke will come back big time this week.
Direction change in the weather and wind. Suppose to start seeing all the west coast smoke back into Idaho starting today.

The other night, moon-rise was orange.

But perish forbid we should blame forest management practices for the fires; according to El Bee's girl Pelosi, Mother Earth is angry.
So ........... Where could we find an expendable old hag to throw into a volcano and appease Mother Earth ???? Maybe bring the whole 'squad' just to be sure.

Yes, that's kinda interesting, in that the prevailing wind here, is invariably out of the southwest....except when it ain't. And that would be the Santana condition. Which blows in the exact opposite direction, from northeast. My advanced notice is that suddenly jets that land at ONT approach from the east and when we have Santana's, they fly by north of me and make a U turn.

Speaking of which? Where are the Santana's this year? Will they be late or because of Covid19 maybe they will just forget about it? I agree that this is by far the most fucked up year I have ever experienced! THANKS DEMOCRATS! THANKS MEDIA!

In their lust for power, they are quite willing to destroy the whole friggin' country just so they can elect that feeble brained Biden! God help us if they prevail!

The first dip/cool down a few days back my hummers took off.
Took one feeder down went to take the other one down and have one little hummer hanging on. She looks like this years young and acts confused about leaving. Not sure what to do?

I think that all of your Hummingbirds are now on my back patio.

If 2020 was an ice cream flavor it would be three day old over-cooked liver & onions.

Earth walker!

I’d leave the feeder up for at least a month. Can’t hurt.

I know it’s colder where you are. But here, I have a certain number of permanent residents. The experts will tell you that if you take the feeders down and those birds that choose not to migrate will actually be in a bind because they not only don’t have the feeder you took down, the native flowers are long since died. Okay, that’s not to likely where you are, but there could be a few stragglers and it don’t hurt to leave it up for a while.

What’s funny, around here, is those few that hang around all winter, they have a rough life. I’ve seen them huddled up under my eaves, and they do look miserable. Another thing they do is roost right next to the feeder. They go into torpor, which is kinda like suspended animation.

I don't envy the firefighters in that country. Too many insanely liberal laws that result in this holocaust. You'd think PETA was protecting bark beetles. Hell, even Kansas has had its share the past decade. Had a prairie fire consume hundreds of square miles a few years back along the KS/OK border. That's a two hour drive for me, but we sent guys from here to work them. Even had one night where they had to quickly evacuate firefighting personnel from a 5 sq mile area when a pop up storm spawned a tornado right in the middle of their fire. Crazy shit.

It's thick enough to cut it today.
It was in yesterday but nothing like it did over night. Can't see across the valley.

It was pretty bad this morning, here. I could not "see" Mount Baldy. It's a 13 mile drive to the ski lift, on a winding mountain road but I'm just guessing it's 7-8 miles from me as the crow flies. That's the tallest peak in Southern California and I think it's 12,000, at least, but I could not make it out, wasn't visible and that's not normal. Could smell lots of smoke. Not a lot of ash though.

I think the smoke is making for cooler temperatures. It's not cool, just a little cooler than it has been.

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: okay, I'm wrong. it's only 10,066 ft.

Paul, my dad was a huge Lakers fan, because we are from Minneapolis and I suppose most people don't know why they are called "The Lakers". It's because of THE LAND OF 10,000 LAKES! It's printed on the license plates. Anyway, even before we relocated to So Cal in 1955, he was a big Minneapolis Laker fan.

And, he told me way back then, the whole game, in the NBA boils down to the last minute. I started paying attention and he was right, way back then.

He also told me about the Harlem GlobTrotters, who I thought, as a sixth grader, they they could beat any NBA team and why didn't they and he said, they are not really playing basketball and just about any NBA team could beat the GLOBE TROTTERS with one arm tied behind their backs. I couldn't hardly believe it at the time but got wised up pretty fast.

Yeah, he was a knowledgeable fan, for sure! The first Superstar: George Miken!

Dave;
If your school system has a pee-wee league it's worth checking out. Little guys playing their hearts out with-out all of the b.s. drama.
And the parents are a kick to watch too.

Yup, I hear ya Ko Ko.

My daughter was a cheerleader in middle school & high school. Even a year @ tiny E.O.U in NE Oregon for a year. Before the drama caught up. LoL
It is fun watching the tiny guys grow up & play ball.

I'd love some of that incense, ko ko. It's just one of those things, that brings you back.

It's the same reason why I cultivate plumeria. It reminds me of Hawaii, and if it were not for the virus, I would already be back! But our vacation was canceled!

Hey, how about some skunk essence? Nothing puts your mind in the wilderness like skunk!

Little league. My son was good, all through Little League and high school ball. But, my grandson Robbie?
Hilarious! Short attention span. I'll never forget him out in center field Pee Wee Little League, with his back to home plate. He was throwing his glove in the air and catching it and in his own little world when the coach was yelling at him; COME ON ROBBIE! WAKE UP! There's 3 outs and the inning's over! That's my boy!

Pulled the last humming bird feeder last night.
The wind was whipping through and the feeder was bouncing pretty good. Haven't had a bird on it for a week now.
Had one female stop by tank up and left.
The liquid was starting to get mold in it. So it was time.

You know that display, where the male flies straight up 30-40 feet and back down? It's a courting ritual. I saw it yesterday, so a few of these little guys still have big plans, and it don't involve bugging out to Mexico!

I don't know why they elect to stick it out through the winter, but some do.

And, I'm wondering? Why are they taking a powder over in AZ? Are the winters that much harsher?

It's OK ............ I found the address, even though I had to go out into the depths of my workshop and risk spiders & scorpions and shadows that move when the light doesn't. At least the rattlesnakes killed the Chupacabra in the corner.

Will try to get package out tomorrow.

Gotta use my shop; I have an indoor archery lane there for when the wind blows too hard to shoot my

Next time you're in your local Bass Pro check out the one ounce bottles of cover scents. A drop or two in the air vents in your house or behind the seat of your truck. The Sage Scent has a bit of a kick to it.

"Moccasin Joe Ambush"
Sage Oil
Light green label.

I did exactly that!

I bought a 4 ounce spray bottle of Tink's cover scent. It's labeled, "PINE". Doesn't exactly remind me of Christmas, but it's a good smell. Tillie shook her ears and slapped me in the nuts! (do not try this at home!)

Good hunting. El Bee

PS I think it was about 5 bucks? Doesn't fill the room like incense. But Tillie's reaction is: RATTLESNAKE!
