Well thank you! I didn't do it for the glory, I had nowhere else to go.
However, I have always felt that it is a good experience for everybody. Somewhere between the National Guard and Switzerland. Even 6 months of active is all anybody needs, the rest of the time is wasted.
There were a lot of guys that said; this ain't for me and either were forced out or took a section 8 voluntary. Of course, they didn't gain the advantage of an honorable separation, but if they can't hack it, might as well bail and take the consequences. Even those few gained some benefit.
I'm really drifting here, but by the same token, I do not believe females belong in any combat unit. Yes, there are places in Quartermaster, and Transportation, Judge Advocate Corps, Nursing, stuff like that. But, the fact is and feminists deny reality, women can't do what's required. So, what do the Politically Correct do? They change the rules and qualifications, of course. Now, instead of ten pull-ups, which is difficult for even large men, they say if a girl can hang from a bar for 3 minutes, that's good enough....which is horseshit. If they can't get over a 6 foot obstacle, let's talk about it, how often does that come up, except in extreme circumstances. (but that's my point) The fact is, not more than one in ten women can climb over a six foot wall. Male jockey's can do it.
Women aren't men, no matter what they tell you. And, women don't belong in submarines, or fighter aircraft, or as your buddy in a foxhole, because you will dig her half, for starters. How the fuck did we ever get to this point?
I got my haircut last week and noticed a new girl. Found out that the previous recently joined the Army. That's great but I hope she didn't request infantry. I'm not a sexist, I'm a realist.
