I recognize a few names on that call. The origin would have to be Orange County Predator Hunters, Clever Gary being one. Danny, (however) was never a member of that club.

It also has the autograph of Granville Crow who was Danny's partner when they belonged to SoCal Chapter. After Danny lost his job, (I think?) and moved to the High Desert, he and Frank Heartlein formed the High Desert Chapter which is still in existence, unlike SoCal.

It's possible this howler was donated by someone at the annual memorial hunt which accounts for the high number of names that are unfamiliar to me? So, the people that actually hunted with Danny is a small number, basically Frank and Granville and Doug Redding. That's where I would look, if it's legitimate?

Good hunting. El Bee

The web handle rickiracer doesn't ring a bell with any of you guys? Rick I. who likes racing, too? Assuming he is a caller and not just someone who got hold of this howler somehow. Interesting.

No, and it's not autographed by Danny. There is a notation on dates, born and lived. I don't get it, at all?

It's not worth much more than the 9 bucks, not historical. In fact, I kinda doubt Danny used or owned a howler? He was definitely old school.

Looks more like some kind if memorial howler, signed at some event after Danny passed? Just guessing.

I just sent Rickiracer a question on EBay asking if the signature was real and how he came to obtain it.
We'll see if I get a response.

Edit to add;
I also notice that he has another howler listed.

I don't care what kind of response you get, the whole offer is wildly misleading. Furthermore, I am betting Danny never saw that howler?

Seller indicates that he obtained it at an estate sale and believes it to be a tribute item.

Hmm? I could go along with that, cautiously. He might have bought it from Danny's wife and maybe it was given to her by members of a club, most likely PCOC. That's the new name of Orange County Chapter; Predator Callers of Orange County. Especially since Clever Gary and Don Jamroz pretty much run that club.

I remember when Jeff Buck brought Don to a Board meeting once, he was a brand new member of that club, at the time. They parted ways and eventually Don got chummy with Clever Gary through mutual membership in Safari Club. That was the beginning of the end for the state organization. Now, all the old timers have drifted or been run off and Don would be the senior member. That club was a good one before they destroyed it, and the State, very active membership and very good hunters. Not so much anymore.

But, of course, I have not had much to do with those guys since we disbanded the state and split the treasury. Thereafter I wrote a new bylaws incorporating the original state charter and the bylaws of the San Gabriel Chapter. Then we changed the name of San Gabriel to C.S.V.C.A and that's where it stands today.

San Gabriel became the entire state organization because nobody else cared about a 50 year tradition when they destroyed it. All they wanted was a share of the treasury and prevent San Gabriel from dominating all the state hunts. Simply put, petty bullshit. And now all the clubs are separate, just a loose relationship and San Gabriel/CSVCA is considered a step child, only recently invited to their Annual Memorial Hunt, which is NOTHING compared to the hunts we used to have almost 15 years ago. Kind of a shame.
