I'm hoping Elbee will be so nice as to wring all the water out of this newest system making its way off the Pacific tonight. We had one little bitty snow last year. This year, we've had two events with 12"+ and a couple in the 4-6 class, putting us well over 30 inches for the year. By Sunday afternoon, we're supposed to have another 7 inches on the ground which will put us over 40 for the year. Our annual average is 26 inches. Abilene has been on the bubble for every system that's come through Kansas this year. I'm tired of walking through it. I'm tired of shoveling it. I'm tired of snowblowering it. I'm tired of the shit.

What really scares me is the colder air masses training down from Canada. In between them, we're pegging 60-65 degrees. That sounds nice and all, but booger and 32below will attest to the fact that those warm days coming in on that cold air is some scary chit in Kansas. About the time we have one of those nice days with breezy south winds drawing moisture out of the Gulf making all of us dream of wearing shorts and working in the yards, a cold front will roar down from the north, override that warm, moist southern Gulf air, get high, then start to fall down through that warm air as it tries to rise and, well, the next thing you know, you're needing a lawn chair and a 6-pack cause there's a 'nader comin'! I predicted a wet summer and 22-inches of rain fell in 15 days in the last week of August and the first week of September. I predicted a wetter than usual winter because we are past due for a twenty year flood. 40 inches of snow will soak things up pretty good. Now I'm betting we have a nasty, violent spring and summer with lotsa hail, storms and tornadoes. We're past due on that, too.

Reminds me - got to hunt a month ago for a day with a guy whose farm was right under a freak tornado that dropped out of a big system this past summer. This tornado was a quarter-mile wide at the base and just went around and around in the same section of ground for forty minutes. All their buildings were ground to toothpicks when that tornado basically hit the farm site, like, fifteen times, and they had 386 cattle killed of a herd that was just shy of 400 an hour before the storm.

This is a picture of that tornado that went viral online.

They are calling for several inches of snow here in the next few days and lots of freezing rain/ice.

Yucca Valley? All she has to do is move to the bottom of that hill, it seemed to always be warmer in Palm springs. Chuckle

El Bee's rain got over this way this morning.
Nice gentle, soaking rain.
We really need it.
Keep it coming.

Yeah, right, Dan!

Down Memory Lane, Palm Canyon Hwy. PS The hookers are a lot more expensive than out in Amboy, where the motel is again closed. I was just out there a week ago collecting lava for my back yard. Still lots of "Marines" out that way, I was also on the base. They are easily recognizable ya know? (haircut)

Yucca Valley now has a Walmart super center and a Home Depot/big time!

29 Palms, Joshua Tree and Marengo Valley don't.

Good hunting. El Bee

29 Palms, Memory lane, <LAFFIN>

LB, I haven't been on that Marine Corps base since 1984 when I got discharged. Yucca valley had a 2 screen theater and a Walmart, I think, maybe it was a Kmart? Good grief, I just did the math.

I killed a few coyotes back then, but was mostly California Dreamin. [Smile]

Cocky SOB's too, are we? [Big Grin]

There were HOOKERS out there? Damn!

Funny story, I thought I was doing pretty good with this beautiful girl in Caesars Palace, LasVegas, then she mentioned love comes with a pricetag. Didn't really matter, as I was almost broke anyways. [Smile]

We learned to always fill the gas tank when we got to Vegas, 'cause we could make it back to base on less than a tankful even if our pockets were empty and they normally were.

You know I was what we called a "chaser" (prisoner escort) back then too. I was stationed in Las Pulgas at camp Pendleton for a brief time also. God I had fun out there.

Yeah, even I remember getting paid on the first of the month. It never lasted. We had a couple guys that "loaned" five bucks for $7. But, we economized, switched from beer to wine the last week of the month.

Those were the days...down Memory Lane. LB

edit: actually, Yucca valley has TWO WALMARTS! A Vons, and two Stater Bros. and a Food For Less. Getting big time! It actually has become the hub of the whole enchilada, 29 Palms Hwy. And, since it had been such a long time since I had been up that way, I was duly impressed.

edit: still raining BTW
