It has been an interesting 4 months…my wife’s mom passed away in September after finding out she had cancer last July. After we got her affairs settled, etc., it was late November, and I was excited about getting out and doing some calling.

I did spend one Saturday calling before Thanksgiving and called in a ‘cat, but didn’t get a shot. Then, my father in law got sick before Thanksgiving, and the wife and I spent a lot of time getting him to and from doctor’s appointments.

It took about a month to get him back on track, and he finally got better just after Christmas. Once again, I thought I was getting ready to get out and get my season started.

My wife got the flu the Friday after Christmas and woke up really sick on the 29th of December. I thought she needed to stay in bed and get some rest, and she actually did. I was in the front part of the house when I heard a thump in the area of our bedroom… when she got up to go the bathroom, she passed out and on the trip down to the floor, got her ankle caught underneath her and snapped her fibula just above her ankle.

The orthopedic surgeon here in Great Bend is my neighbor, and they couldn’t do surgery on the 29th due to the fact she was so dehydrated and sick…so we had to wait until the 3rd when they put in a plate and 7 screws. She is doing OK, but will be in a cast and on crutches for around 7 weeks. It is her right ankle, so I am the cook, dishwasher, laundry dude, and the taxi driver right now. Fortunately, we work for the same bank, so I don’t have to drive her to a different place for her job.

I have pretty well determined that my season is toast, and I am on the ‘inside looking out’ right now…guess there is always this fall!!!

Was just thinking of her yesterday. Good to hear the surgery went well. Hope her mending goes well, too. You haven't missed much. Been a non-banner year here.
