Paul;
Good to see that you're spending time watching educational nature stuff rather than the porn sites you're usually on.
How's the recovery coming along ???

Brings back memories of touring Kruger. That's very typical, dirt roads, some graded but at every turn, you are liable to encounter wildlife of some sort. The worst we had was a charge by elephant, and a baboon reaching past me to steal a banana. These are completely wild animals. I am told that an average of two tourists per year are eaten by lions when they get out of their vehicle to take pictures of full bellied lions laying on their back. They fail to see every lion and consequently, the family gets exciting footage of dad being dismembered and eaten.
Good hunting. El Bee
PS I got out once, to pick up a tortoise. Freaked out the wife!

Great video of that lion getting tossed. It's funny to see that and then see the power line in the background. I guess their national parks have some sort of infrastructure and utilities (electric anyways).

Yes, since I brought my wife along, I thought it would be fair if we spent some time with the tourist stuff. When we were in the bush, she was paling around with Lochi's wife who was out of school at the time. She's a teacher. They got along fine so I wasn't too worried.
Anyway, out of a total of 13 days, we toured Kruger for 3½ days. The rest of the time, hunting, day and night, actually. As much as possible. For jackel mostly, but I really wanted a caracal. Didn't happen.
Good hunting. El Bee
edit: I got an assortment of plains game, had no interest in the big five and besides, that was sort of out of my price range. I just wanted a taste, and that's what I got.

Yeah, but how cool would it be to call in an African Lion ????
(OK, somebody feel free to take a Lyin' African shot at our Dear Leader.)

They didn't have any lions where I was but one of the guys I hunted with for a couple days had 40 leopards to his credit.

Jackals would be fun. i would think Hyenas would come in easy to a call?.

vid stated:
"all the animals walked away with no major injuries"
I don't believe that for a second. That lion was gored by the buff's horn. As much as it penetrated, wouldn't doubt if t popped something vital in the body cavity?
Crazy vid though! Amazing power to ragdoll a 300 lb. kitty cat with a flip of the neck!

I only saw one (spotted) hyena, just lying beside the road in Kruger. We had an understanding that if we called in a brown hyena, not to shoot. For a couple of good reasons.
As I have said before, the black back jackals seemed just like a coyote, except for the vocal, a little more high pitched.
I could write a book about misconceptions, how to apply our methods to hunting African game, but I won't. But, by the time I left, I am pretty sure I changed a few attitudes. For instance, he was convinced that you could not call a jackal to a vehicle, at night.
