As you may well know I've been away from the boards for a while. I went into the hospital on Nov. 2 and returned home this evening still much recovery ahead. Approx. 30 hours of surgery and viola I'm back. Cancer is not for sissies. Their were evenings that I was nothing more than a simpering heap crying like a baby and then there were some rough nights. They removed my face to get to the inside of my mouth and throat ,Removed the floor of my mouth and a bunch of glands then rebuilt my jaw from my femur. Bla Blah Blah. Neeedles to say Thanksgiving has great meaning for me this year. Paul

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Prayers sent to you, Paul. I have had several family members battle cancer - it is unforgiving. Hope all works out in your favor. God Bless.

Accept my congratulations and encouragement, Paul.
Happy Thanksgiving. Our turkey has been in the oven for an hour. God, do I love a turkey on Thanksgiving!
It is a relief for me not to have to keep your secret anymore. There were times I felt some of your friends deserved to know, but I can't betray a confidence about stuff like that.
I don't know how you did it, thus far? I'm not sure I could? Reminds me of another confidence I am keeping regarding a man known to many of us. He couldn't endure it and used a firearm to end his pain. Like you said, cancer ain't for sissy's.
I apologize because I have been intending to call you almost every day this month to see how you were doing, yet hesitant to interfere. Sounds like you are on the road to recovery and I'm happy for you.

We should all give thanks a lot more often than we do. Sounds like something to look forward to, next year in Askfork?
Unrelated but still illustrative of how we should best use our time here. My brother-in-law died last Saturday, or rather they found him Saturday morning. He lives alone. Went out like Elvis, sitting on the throne, rigor mortis well underway. Well, there are probably more dignified ways of checking out, like being shot out of a cannon?
koko, you take care of yourself. Hear? Stand up slowly, get plenty of fiber. We need to treasure and honor our seniors, listen over and over to the same stories and the forgetful pauses. We will all get there, someday.

I wish you a complete and speedy recovery Paul.
I know Thanksgiving took on a different meaning for me this year. A couple weeks ago my 47-y-old BIL went to the hospital thinking he had pneumonia. Cancer. And his torso region is filled with it. They gave him roughly 3 weeks to live.
Seeing him, makes me thankful for just being healthy.

Cancer is a terrible thing, as I can attest having endured my darling Nancy's death. There were no clues but one morning, the spread of cancer invaded her brain and she suffered a stroke. It was beyond unbelievable that she died nine days later, the quickest I have ever heard, from diagnosis to death, five days. I have come to believe she was fortunate, no long chemo and radiation and finally, (for her) the inevitable and quick end to the suffering.

Leonard, I remember how quickly cancer took Nancy. Even though I'm not in your place or have had to deal with the pain of losing a spouse so suddenly, I do agree with you on going quickly rather than the long-term suffering that is often associated with it.
