I have been using a flip phone for several years, almost embarrassed to yank it out in public. Friday, I became the proud owner of an iphone. It's mind boggling, I had to attend a two hour class Sunday morning just to learn the basics. Not sure how much I actually absorbed?

Be aware that the iPhone has the capability of embedding GPS data in a picture file.
Actually, by default, the GPS information is embedded if I remember correctly..
Would kinda suck if you posted a pic and gave away your favorite spot of all time..lol

Simple way to avoid that. Turn the GPS off unless you're using it.

There's too many cool apps that need GPS.. Don't turn off GPS, but turn it off for the camera!
Go to settings--> privacy--> location services--> camera --> "slide the option to off"

One of the ultimate ironies is that if we have a prayer for changing this(I doubt it)and protecting our privacy even a little bit,it will come from libertarians(R Paul)or liberals(ACLU,Al Franken, etc). Talk about a no win situation.

iPhone users
Settings-> --Privacy--> ---Location Services--->
TURN to OFF
If you use an app that requests your GPS location, it will ask your permission. If you grant permission, you must follow the above steps afterward to turn the tracking feature back off...
EDIT: I skimmed right over the above post that detailed the same info, sorry! [ September 26, 2013, 05:47 AM: Message edited by: knockemdown ]

Dave and I must be brothers from another mother. Like him,my wife insisted I get some kind of communication. I got a 10 dollar trac-phone and a 60 minute card. I know the phone is in my truck console among all the other shit, doubt it is charged, and pretty sure the card is out of date? I could give a rats ass about having a cell phone, apps or gps. The need is just off my radar screen. I spent 31 years where telephone service to the customers I served was paramont in my life. I had one in my ear all the time, talking to some department advising me where I needed to be to fix someone elses telephone. I recall the number of times I was rattled awake at night,by nervous test desk technicians in Denver to hustle me around the county to repair an important customers telephone service. After I retired, I could give a shit about a phone, I prefer to call them an intrusion device. I have no idea what an APP is? I use an Arizona and New Mexico atlas to get me around when Im not sure where Im going, and I'll be damned if they still don't work....and even with a charge!

Just remember to turn off your "Apps" and other programs you've finished using, to save your battery charge. If not your phone will live on a charger or even shutdown. Normally, I recharge once a day for about an hour for total recharge. Now that you are equipped with an iPhone you are in Total Recharge dude! Welcome to the club

Yea I need to include that in my sig line; total recharge dude!
It's like that truck driver picking up the hitchhiker joke: Mister, I'm not really Gay, I just found this cowboy hat!
I will hopefully resist the siren call of ALL THOSE COOL APPS for a long time. Basically, I'm a lot like Dave and Vic but with different mothers, so don't shut me out of the club just because of this friggin' iphone.

LB, I really enjoy the iTunes thingie. What I would really like is a Sirus XM app! Just last week I was up in OKC at the doc's office, endured a 3 hour wait for an fucking epidural.... Did I say I like iTunes? My one caution is the fairy tale that Apple & Mac's are impervious to malware & hackers, they ain't! Pay attention to your wifi settings!!! I use the wifi feature at home to keep my data usage costs below the monthly allotted limit without additional fees on my phone plan. Besides, my wifi is way faster than 3G or 4G without usage limits.

My favorite iPhone app is the ammo ballistic calculator. It dialed my 7mm to 500 yards nicely..

Talk radio today. L.A. Unified School District is spending one Billion dollars on I Pads for students. But, they have no responsibility on lost broken or stolen units. Apple is bankrolling a loss of 5%, but with a 50% dropout rate in these schools, it looks like the taxpayers will be making up the difference.
Ain't this a wonderful country?

I love my iPhone and have several apps to help me shoot, time and track my runs, my wife even has one called sit or squat that tells her where the closest bathroom is and how clean it is.
When I'm on the road I can look up prices for customers and even parts break downs. I haven't turned my home computer on in almost a year now.
Put it on vibrate when you're out hunting or otherwise don't want to be bothered and you can always say you were in a dead zone if you don't want to talk.
Oh and get a good case for it. I use Lifeproof cause a buddy threw his in a bucket of water and had his wife call it, it worked. You will drop it...

BONEHEAD FIASCO UPDATE:
http://dailycaller.com/2013/10/02/epic-fail-los-angeles-high-schools-now-confiscate-all-free-ipads-they-gave-students/
Hey, it's not your money it's the school districts. Umm, oh yeah, the taxpayers provided the funding but now it's their money to throw away. Like anybody does with free stuff, it apparently has no value?
But, the idea of giving free reign to Liberals is totally stupid. They have no concept of moderation or thrift. They want more money. Every year, more money. No improvement, (test scores) but that's because they need MORE MONEY.
I am convinced, Liberalism is a mental illness and it's not victimless. They squawk, they get our money and squander it, they should not be trusted with taxpayer money.

WOW is all I can say! I guess that basic business practice equals paying list price when you buy a billion dollars worth of iPads? I was in walmart the other day and the most expensive (wi fi & cell data plan) iPad w/64gb LIST PRICE is 699.oo$. Who, if anyone oversees this kind of pure bull shit? I wonder if a price breakdown is available FOR THE TAX PAYERS...

The problem is the arrogance of these progressive Liberals. They know what's best, for you and everybody else. Unless they don't want something like Obamacare, then they decide what's best for you, and you have no choice. But, they can decide to have something more befitting their exalted status.
This is the way it is in all levels of government, city, county, state and federal. The control freaks are in charge. As with the fox guarding the hen house, it's the stupidest arrangement imaginable. Apparently, Liberals think they are playing with Monopoly Money? They can't be overdrawn, they still have checks left!
Arrogance! We have let it go too far, can't stop it.

The most sickening part of this bs is, in 50 years people will openly talk about how stupid the people were back in 08 and how much stupider they became as time went by. None of us will be around to tell our side so ... "Oh Well"

That's the kind of "shit videos" people will refer to, if there is a 2063 AD. I can hear it now, 'stupid people back then, yes siraree, think anyone had any sense back then? Nope! me neither'
