Getting a few things ready for this year's bear calling adventure, like deciding weather to use bear or elk urine for a cover scent.
Happened to be thumbing thru the {Az.} regs and ran across this tid-bit.
".................unlawful for taking any wildlife in this state;
..........Any lure, attractant, or cover scent containing any cervid urine...." (Page 124)
Not sure where that one came from but it would seem that all of the sudden that bottle of Doe in Heat in your daypack will now get you a ticket.
I swear, you have to stay on the regs constantly or risk being in violation of something you never even heard of. ![[Eek!]](eek.gif)

That's interesting...not to sound dumb, but I had to look up the definition of cervid.
I teach Hunter Education here in Kansas, and I actually had to referee one day when I had two different game wardens in class. They got into a heated discussion, (in front of the class, no less), on how they would handle a situation a student brought up. Bottom line is they both had different opinions on how each read the reg...not good when you are on the other side of the situation.
Would be really interested to know their reasoning behind that decision in AZ.

Well, I'm sure, somewhere there is a regulation writer that rests easy, knowing he has saved the fine State of Arizona from cervid urine scofflaws.

PS So, how will they go about proving what's in the Turd's "lure, attractant, or cover scent"? Reading a label? Next reg. unlawful to transfer "lure, attractant, or cover scent" into an unmarked container, shall be guilty of a class 3 felony. Make the world safer.

Just a SWAG, but I'll bet that one somehow derived from some archer surrounding his tree stand with doe in heat soaked cotton balls. Baiting? What about that buck bomb stuff? Same, same?
Back in the day, pickin's were slim, but in the present, there are much more pleasant cover scents that work.
I'm sure pee goes good with treebark, though. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

That BuckBomb / ElkBomb stuff is great!!!! Everyone should have some handy at all times.
Say you wake up and find yourself in a darkened theater that's showing a Micheal Moore film.......hit auto dispense on a BuckBomb, roll it down the aisle & yell `The Pigs Are Using Gas!!!!`

AT a PVCI meeting a member asked a guy from Game and Fish if wearing a scent attractant while hunting bear would be considered baiting. The G&F guy said anything you want to put on yourself while hunting bears is fine with him. It got a good laugh

Yep.
1. My grandson killed a dandy 3x3 blacktail last Fall that was sniffing a drop of doe urine placed on a tree trunk.
2. On certain calling set-ups when using fawn distress, I sometimes put doe urine on two sticks and throw one each way cross wind of me. The intent is to have any animal circling toward downwind to hit one of those scent streams before he gets to mine, and it works whichever side he is approaching from.
3. Have killed some good mule deer bucks when using scent glands cut from other big bucks, but that is a different scent motif, and a LOT stinkier!
Side query: How do we quote someone and then reply to it on this forum? I have never figured that out, merely cut and paste -- ineffectively.

If the doe in heat works for you great.
With that being said I have tried it years ago around a deer yard with mixed results and could get the same results by just using fox pee or even a cigarette butt. Curiosity being the main reason they show up..
Doe in heat is taken from the does in late Oct. and again when they come in to heat for a second time in mid to late Nov.
By the time most hunters can get it at the store its already a year old, the smell of the urine will last that long in a sealed bottle but you loose the rest of the in-heat scent and that's why I don't bother with it.. Same can be said for trailing scents used to train a dog, if its not fresh you will loose some of the main ingredients over time which makes the scent almost worthless.

Reply with quotes is disabled, on this board because it was <sort of> misused by quoting a lengthly article followed then a two sentence reply. It is still possible to quote by hitting "reply" and then "quote" and then you have to copy and paste within the {QUOTE] xxx [/QUOTE} brackets. It is a little more trouble but if you need the previous post to make your point, then you can make the effort of a couple extra steps.
The same reasoning was used when it was decided to disable the PM (private message) feature. While it may be useful to some people, it also causes some mischief. So, you pretty much have to use the open board or email; if the member displays it.
Anyway, those are examples of arbitrary policy decisions made by the HM management assholes.
