......my new bow to arrive later this week. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)
Sadly, earlier this month, my beloved three piece Martin recurve bow became a four piece take-down bow. ![[Frown]](frown.gif) I really liked that bow. It will be hard to get used to a new stick but a new stick is on it's way.
A 60# Damon Howatt Super Diablo recurve via E-Bay and it's get ready for bear season time!!!!

I've got a couple old Howatt's that used to belong to my Dad. I know one of them is a Hunter, can't remember what the other one is, wanting to say a Mamba?
Another one is a Wasatch, which Dad told me was actually made by Damon Howatt for the archery shop my Dad was working in at the time, Les Hunt if I remember the name correctly.
Got one that was made by Harry Drake too. Never did hear a model mentioned for it.
I fart around with a fairly recent vintage Bob Lee takedown myself.

Damon Howatt's speed bow was........(wait for it)....... The Hi-Speed.
I've seen so many bows on E-Bay the last couple of weeks that my head's still spinning.
Saw a Black Widow 2nd that the factory tech told me was worth $250 to $400 go for $960. Insane.
From the research I've done, the Damon Howatt line are fine bows, they just never got `discovered` like the Black Widows.

I'm concerned, koko. What precautions do you take, like "braiding" or triming do you take to insure that your facial hair doesn't get caught in the string?

Not to worry. At one time my beard was long enough I could tell chicks that I was the fourth member of ZZTop. Never had a problem shooting with it. The string came straight into the beard and went straight back out again.
I would notice, however, from time to time at tournements that people would watch me shoot and cringe. ![[Cool]](cool.gif)

I shoot the Black Widow takedown recurve for meese and other critters with the 60 pound limbs. I think the Howatt's are one of the smoothest drawing bows in their era and compete with lots of the new bows out there as well. That 115 pounder was setup as an African shooter with some double shafted aluminum Easton's. What year/model was your Martin?

The Martin was the `Lynx` model w/60# limbs. I got it sometime in the late 80s........probably '88 or '89.
Metal riser, to which I added lead wherever I could to increase the mass weight. It spit a 495 grain 2213 out pretty nicely. Point on was 59 yards. Killed a couple of deer and a javelina with it when the mood struck me to set the compound aside. Got pass-thrus on everything I hit with it until I hit a bear square in the shoulder blade last year. That didn't end well.
I stopped at several archery shops in Tucson recently. Kind of depressing; EVERYTHING I own relating to archery is outdated. Archery today seems to be 24 inch long compounds & carbon arrows.
I'll stick with what I know works for me.

Very cool!
I've always liked the super diablo. A buddy of mine had one once that I really admired. He was/is one of those guys that doesn't hold onto something very long before it's traded off for something "better". When I'd heard he'd traded that one off, I was bummed.
If I remember correctly, the riser is Zebra wood?...And it's no longer "legal" to import because of rain forest restrictions...?
Several of my old shooting buddies are Bob Lee fanatics. I can sure appreciate them, but I just never warmed up to them preferring a bow a little "sleeker".
One of my friends actually has a Jim Dougherty recurve that was made by Bob Lee. Kinda cool.

Bob Lees are a little more svelt than say, a Black Widow or a Predator etc.imo, but the Widows have a style all thier own. They are stocky-er than some other bows, but they have that heft that a lot of guys like. They are built tough. I love em myself.
I also have a couple of Checkmate HII's. Good shooting bow, nothing fancy and I use it most of the time cause Im just comfortable with it. The handles are a bit fat, but it dont bother me.
I shoot GT carbons, took me awhile to warm up to em out of a trad bow, but theyre all I shoot now.
Id like to have a Stalker or a Schafer someday, but prolly not going to happen for a long long while. If at all.

Serious question - would any of you guys be interested in buying about a case of P.O. cedar shafts from the original Rose City mill?
Not sure on exact count - 10 dozen maybe? Or exact spines. But they are all weight and spine sorted, spine marked etc. I "think" they are all tapered shafts, but would need to double check that, might actually be some barrel tapers in there. Definitely all knock tapered.
It will be a little while before I can go through and verify exactly how many of exactly what. But thought I'd throw them out there so to speak, just in case any of you might be interested.

I have seen Dave's father's craftsmanship. I wouldn't mind owning the arrow board on the wall in the kitchen. Hell, I wouldn't mind owning any one of them. To say he was a traditionalist is putting it mildly.
