2012 was a fair to midland year. I've had better and have had worse, but overall it wasn't bad. Having my own beetles to clean skulls makes things a little more fun. Although all the coyotes I killed last season aren't in the photo it wasn't bad. Got a little over 50 coyotes, 1 bear, and 1 mule deer. Normally there would be an antelope in the picture as well, but I haven't been lucky enough to draw the last 2 years. Drew 16 years in a row and then nothing the last two. Oh well, I should be about due to draw this year.

I've always like the English mount for horned animals.
I wonder what an obama skull mount would look like? Probly not much is my guess. You'd notice the reduced cranial capacity right away.

very cool. What do you feed the beetles in the off season? Bologna?

Ok.....Question;
Do you offer skull cleaning service?????
As in, we ship you a frozen skull, you feed your bugs & ship it back. (I'm sure there's a bit more to it than that but you get the idea.)
Thanx!!!

Koko as a matter of fact I do. Here's my website:

Okay with that said I absolutely did not make this post so I could advertize anything. I just thought it was cool to put all the critter's skulls together and take a picture. Not a "thought I'd share" post!
TR, I always seem to have some kind of critter to feed them, rock chucks, gophers, coyotes, deer, pigeons, and rabbits...

Troy, I am sure your motivation was to share with the membership and not drum up business. However, there is no reason why you shouldn't or couldn't drum up business. Go ahead, please, anytime you feel like it.

If this year's bear season goes well, we'll chat a bit more about this.

Leonard, thank you that is very much appreciated.
Koko, I wish you the best of luck with your bear season. Bear hunting is a passion of mine nearly equal to coyote hunting. Hence, my web name of Ursus21.

I enjoyed the website. The "How It's Done" tab is nicely written, and I learned a lot. Would you explain why the skulls have to have the extra meat and brain removed? I mean, I don't mean to sound stupid, and I've heard that from pretty much everyone that talks skull cleaning, but I just am curious...is it because it will kill the beetles, is it because it would take too long to clean, is it because of the smell?
Signed,
Lazy Hunter

Sounds like a Union Labor clause?

Joel, it's a two-part answer. The brain needs to be removed because of the horrible smell it makes as it decomposes. As for the large pieces of meat it is removed just to speed up the cleaning process. The less meat the beetles need to clean up and eat the faster a person can get their trophy back. It also reduces the chances of the meat rotting before the skull is completely cleaned.
