That is why assault weapons bans have consistently been upheld in the courts, both before and after the Heller decision. I believe regulation of these weapons is appropriate.

In regards to Frank; sure he's a friend, however I agree with your opinion that he is far off base, but I won't edit his words.

What I do, as far as moderating, is interject my own opinion and try to steer the conversation that way instead of deleting posts or editing member's content. I absolutely hate censorship and will not do it except as last resort.

So, yeah, Jews seem to control stuff, Hollywood, Wall Street, etc. but I am a very strong supporter of Israel for one thing, and as far as the whole ethnic situation, we all have an axe to grind. So what?

I heard a guy on local talk radio express an opinion today that makes sense and I tend to agree with it.

His summary was that the AWB never had the horsepower to pass, but Feinstein jumped on the bandwagon to gain favor with her constituency. Reed dropped it for the same reason. And the others fall in line on the matter wherever they believe the job security lies. He went on, of course, but you get the idea.

They are crafty devils.

The area where I live is solid Republican, just like most of Orange County. This is called the "West End" of San bernardino County. I would vote to divide this sorry ass state in a heartbeat. It's just like Denver deciding on gun bans for the whole state of Colorado, which is extremely rural and pro gun. The way important questions are decided in this country leaves a lot to be desired.

DiYi, for the sake of argument, not all in the military went willingly. If you remember, before 1973 many in the military were conscripts.

During WW I, they had a goal of 1 million volunteers; 17,000 volunteered. Similarly, during WWII, Korea, Vietnam, volunteer numbers were low. Hence, conscripts.

So, saying that ALL soldiers joyfully leapt to the aid of the USA is foolhardy.

These are simply facts rebutting your statement, not bashing veterans.

Man has an innate aversion to killing another man. That's why in the modern military, men are TRAINED to kill. Many men don't kill for love of country, they kill because they are trained to do so.

I remember in boot camp the question was brought up a few times. Why are you here??? Roughly half the guys answer "cause they wanted to or cause other family members served", some replied they wanted a better way of life, some replied it was for the credits they would get along with money for a better education and then there was roughly a dozen of them that replied " The judge said either join one of the service branches or jail.

Actually, I find it hard to believe his facts about volunteers during the Second World War? Yes, they had the draft, but I always thought that many didn't wait for the dreaded "greetings".

Leonard, reread the post, I mentioned World War I for my figure of 17,000, not WW2. There were more 'volunteers' during WW2, EXACT figures are hard to find. As far as WWI goes, even if it were 150,000 volunteers it still a fuck of a lot shy of 1 Million.
People love their country, but be damn sure MOST love life more and would watch this fucker burn before taking a life to defend it. That's why Frank is the head man in this, he's willing to kill or be killed defending freedom.

Sorry, it was 73,000 volunteers in WWI.

"Captain Hugh Johnson thought of the idea to draft in December 1916. President Woodrow Wilson wanted to only send volunteers over to war but the enemies' armies were far larger than America. Wilson wanted to increase the U.S. Army by 1 million volunteer troops, but only 73,000 volunteered. So he had to go through with the Selective Service Act. On May 18,1917 the Selective Service Act was passed. Organizing the draft There three different registrations during the war. The first one was on June 5,'17. Wanting men from 21 to 31 in age. The were actually two different date in the second registration. June 5,'18 for men who turned 21 after the first registrations and August 24,'18 for newly turned 21 years old. The third one was September 12,'18. This time the age range was change for men 18 to 45 years of age. Registration On all the registration cards were: full name, date and place of birth, date of registration, race, citizenship, occupation(where and whom employed by), description, signature, order and serial number."

The connection is ..... They all lived on my block when my family moved to Calif in the 60's. Some were drafted, some joined and they all served during the VietNam war. Art Esparza was KIA in 1969. They were all older than me by about 5-6 years, and they all did the right thing. We went hunting, fishing,& surfing together. We played baseball, football & basketball together. We went to church, we went to the drag races, we rebuilt cars, all together as friends and neighbors. Most of all we were all Americans, which by the way is the greatest country on the earth.
