Beretta USA, the domestic arm of the respected Italian gunmaker, has issued a warning to Maryland’s Governor and lawmakers attempting to push legislation aimed at the Second Amendment. Their warning came in the form of testimony from Jeff Reh, a member of the Board of Directors for Beretta U.S.A. Corp., located in Accokeek, Maryland, who not only wrote the testimony, but also told the Maryland lawmakers, “Enact such measures at your own risk,” according to BizPacReview.

Reh voiced his company’s opposition to Maryland Senate bill 281 and stated that “In Italy, Beretta has existed continuously in the same small town for almost 500 years. The Beretta family started its investment in Accokeek in the late 1970s and the history of the family is to show commitment to the community in which it locates its businesses.”

He stated that the current legislation put forth and supported by the Governor of Maryland pushes an agenda which would place “a ban on certain semi-automatic rifles and on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.” Reh said, “These are products we make.”

The Beretta Board member said that the commitment to community is not one-sided, though, and said it ” deserves the respect of a corresponding commitment from the local community and from the state Government.”

He then also poignantly made the point, “We are confronted with a state government that wants to ban our products at a time, by the way, when numerous other state governments are courting our investment. It is worth noting that these other states also do not try to blame a product for human misconduct.”

Reh makes several important points in his testimony. One of the most profound ones is his drawing a parallel between banning books and banning guns. “That might seem like a provocative statement but the parallels are apt,” Reh wrote. “The possession and use of firearms and printed materials are both protected by the Constitution. Both rights come from the only legislation in U.S. history that was voted on and approved directly by the citizens of our country.”

Reh also pointed to the 1990s when Maryland attempted to hype gun restrictions. Beretta’s response was to move their warehouse operations across the state line into Virginia.

“I think they thought we were bluffing” in the 1990s, Reh said. “But Berettas don’t bluff.”

Now that could be a great company slogan! But Reh went on to tell the Washington Post that the company’s Italian patriarch, Ugo Bussali Beretta, visited the plant shortly after Governor O’Malley and company began it’s attack on the Second Amendment. While Reh and Beretta discussed the issue, Reh would not say what or if a decision was reached as to how to respond should the Governor’s bill be passed into law.

Jeff Reh, member of Board of Directors for Beretta
He simply said, “All I can tell you is, Mr. Beretta said, ‘There always seems to be a problem with Maryland.’

There is no question that an issue of jobs is at stake, but even greater than that is the issue of liberty. Too many Americans today are buying into whatever Washington wants to put in place at the expense of their liberty. They accept the intrusion of the Federal government into airport security, openly violating the Fourth Amendment. They accept and many are completely oblivious to the indefinite detention section of the National Defense Authorization Act, which violates the Fifth and Sixth Amendment. Still others allow the tyranny of massive spending beyond the enumerated powers granted to the Federal government in the Constitution and others demand more of the Nanny State to take care of them so they don’t have to deal with the responsibility of freedom and liberty, because they do come with responsibility.

Beretta gets a thumbs up from Freedom Outpost for having a proven bite that matches its bark. I’m hopeful other gun manufacturers like Sig Sauer, Glock and Smith & Wesson will step up to the plate as well.

So now we are getting some cooperation from the gun industry. YES!!!!! Beretta took one on the chin under the 94 Brady bill. People walked away from the M92 because of it's size vs the 10 rnd mag limit. H&K got shitty to the public and didn't suffer as much because of the Govt contracts (*but Benelli distribution was taken away and imported thru Beretta). I will be interested to see if and or how they (H&K) react when it's their turn to speak up. S&W shit their pants pretty bad when they (Sigler, former owners) made a deal with Klinton to only sell to law enforcement and military. I am thankful the new owners called bull shit and broke that deal! And don't forget Bill Ruger tried to con the public and "our" government buy screaming 10 rnd mags and the offer to make the Mini 14 a top load 5 rnd rifle!
Maybe we have a legitimate chance to win this battle by sticking together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*Edited due to misinformation concerning H&K ownership.

I remember the S&W deal. Sticks with me to this day.

I will never buy a S&W product again. Same thing goes for levi jeans. Haven't bought a pair of those since the 80's.
