For once, a video showing LEO's in a more positive light. High speed chase on country roads about 20 miles from me this summer with one state trooper in pursuit. Suspect bails, shooting. Some cussing, some injuries. I remember the day because I think every LEO in the county was headed that way running hot. Saline County is the next county west of us. Suspect was caught about 5 hours later, just after dark, when a homeowner locked his family down after the guy walked by on their road. In a later interview, he was quoted as having said he got his family in the house and in the basement while he and his son called 911 and took up defensive positions with their own firearms while awaiting the arrival of law enforcement in case the guy decided to try and come to their house.

Hmmm. Lets see, the bad guy exits the passenger side of vehicle, women is seen exiting the drivers side of the vehicle. Its said that a bullet went through one of the kids mouth and into the back of the mother so the shot would have to come from behind the vehicle. Who was behind the vehicle??? Was'nt the bad guy he ran off to the right...
Next story> A home owner see's a black guy walking down the road and puts family in basement right away and prepares to defend himself.. How did the home owner know he was a bad guy and just not some guy out for a walk..
Is this something people auto-maticly do when they see a stranger walking down a public road in Kansas???

I had the same questions, Tim. Ballistics tests revealed that the bullet that struck the passengers in the vehicle were not from the Trooper's weapon. My main concern was that the trooper should have maintained more space between his car and the other vehicle. By the time he got stopped, he was well within the guy's field of fire and unable to see the driver's side of the car he was chasing. Then again, when the suspect bailed, he came out shooting and it was at that time I believe he took out the trooper's windshield and injuring the LEO with flying glass. I presume the trooper was trying to both drive and take cover behind the dashboard/ firewall at the same time.
As to the second remark, you are a dumbass. Sorry, but it has to be said.
I don't know about Minnesota, but here in Kansas, we do have state of the art emergency communications systems. Within minutes of what you see in the video, the Saline County Emergency Communications Center was able to make a reverse 911 call where they recorded an emergency message then, by highlighting an area on a map on their computer monitor, their system called every single phone number in that highlighted area and played that emergency message to either the person who answered the phone or their voice mail. As stated, the guy was taken into custody several hours later and by then everyone in that area had been made aware that an armed fugitive was on foot in the area and that they were to exercise extreme caution and report anything unusual. And yes, a guy - black or otherwise - walking down the road is unusual in that area. Factor in that he was black and that the manhunt being conducted on the ground and by air was seeking a black male.... yeah, sure. We're just a bunch of racist hicks. We'd just as soon have lynched that boy as call the poh-leece. Forget it. ![[Frown]](frown.gif)

We have an asshole on deathrow who escaped from Chino. The authorities never bothered to tell anybody and he just broke in a shed, stole a hatchet and murdered about 7 people next door that were oblivious. They didn't like it, but the prison was forced to alert the area afterwards, said they didn't before because they didn't want everybody to panic. Yeah, right. Kevin Cooper, (black, by the way) and hard to say how much longer he will be dodging justice.

As far as I know we have nothing like that except a early warning system if a bad storm is comeing our way. But then again I don't live in a high crime area....
We had a shoot out close to town many years back and I was in the area coon hunting when it happened.. I don't think it even made the paper except for in the court news colum.... The bad guy (a friend of mine)spent 6 months in jail for defending himself from a stupid cop...

And they couldn't have picked a better place for a shootout....remote location, with no innocents to be hit by errant gunfire.
I feel bad the kid had to take a round in the mouth though. The article states the bullet was from the turd's gun. This gets back to btech's quote regarding the mother's choice of company.
As far as the mother and the trooper's command voice...I know how it is when these things happen and your adrenaline starts pumping. For all the LEO's knew she could have been armed too. She is lucky they didn't pop her when she reached back prior to getting up.
I'm glad it turned out okay in the end.
