The afternoon of my mom's funeral, my dad gave each of us three kids a sealed envelope containing a type-written prose that, it turns out, was a guiding principle by which my mother lived her short life of only 47 years before succumbing to cancer. My dad was well aware of its importance to her since long before they'd gotten married, yet none of us had ever seen it before. She took time in her last few days on this earth to type a copy for each of us with the preface that "this" is what she hoped we had learned from her. As I grow older and, I hope, wiser, I try to honor my mother's memory by reading it often and living my daily life by its principels.

I offer this to you, Tim, with genuine sincerity in hopes that you can somehow understand how some people think and why some people find you and your remarks offensive and abrasive. Although it isn't my place to judge you, I hold a very firm opinion of who and what I think you are and, in my opinion - an opinion I am certain is shared by many here - it would behoove you to heed these words.

This was first penned by Max Erhmann sometime between 1906 and 1920 and is entitled, "Desiderata", Latin for "things that are yearned for", or "essential things".

"Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.

Take kindly to the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy."

Now, quit pissing people off.

That's funny! Ten paragraphs and Tim asks: What's your point?

Don't worry about it, Tim. I think there is a place for you at the table.

Lance, you knew you were wasting your breath. Nice try though.

Good hunting. El Bee

I know, Leonard. (nodding head) He holds onto shit like a woman. An ugly assed, bitter woman, but a woman, nonetheless.

"I don't piss anyone off, they do it themselves"

That right there is a psychiatrist's wet dream. LOL If you wanted to hear the other side of my wife's trial, you should have come and sat through it. I seriously doubt you could decipher the legal mumbo jumbo that it took to get where it ended.

Lance,

Pearls before swine. [Roll Eyes]

While you offered it to Tim, and he totally missed the point... I'll just say thanks, there's plenty of good advice (for all of us) in there.

Your Mom was a wise woman. [Smile]

I found the answer and thought I'd pass it on to others.. I feel so much better..

quote:

I'm passing this on because it worked for me today.

A doctor on TV said that in order to have inner peace in our lives after this election, we should always finish things that we start. Since we all could use more calm in our lives, I looked around my house to find things I'd started & hadn't finished.

I finished a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Chardonnay, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of wum, tha mainder of Valiuminun scriptins, an a box a choclutz. Yu has no idr how fablus I feel rite now.

Sned this to all ur frenz who need inner piss. An telum u luvum.
