So..............How do these `experts` know that the livestock kills are the work of coyotes and not red wolves?????
And, not to sound insensitive, but it was my impression that a red wolf is nothing but a grey wolf / coyote hybrid. Who needs them??? In nature the strong survive. Coyotes survive in the face of endless pursuit. Red wolves are endangered because we don't love them enough.
Hey!!! I know; lets spend millions of dollars breeding red wolves. We do that with bobwhite quail here in Arizona. It's a waste of time and money & doesn't work........but it shows that we care!!!!!

There must be a shovel shortage in NC

Thats what I was thinking, Ragn. Sounds like a few shovels to our friends in NC would make perfect Christmas gifts....

I'm thinking a t-shirt with a crossed rifle / shovel logo over a `canine` background.

I have zero confidence that the experts can identify a red wolf. I know I can't? I killed a couple in Texas a long time ago and they look a hell of a lot like your garden variety coyote so who can blame anybody for a mistake? Actually, I had them on the ground next to five or six real coyotes to compare or I wouldn't have known the difference. Besides, they say they interbreed at the drop of a hat?
It just calls into question the whole enchilada. If it requires a DNA analysis to determine species, then one of two things is called for. Either forget about it or ban hunting of any canid that looks remotely like a red wolf. The second alternative is most likely, the way rule makers and enforcement types operate.
Then, it follows, the way that control freaks think, we cannot be too careful, so shut down coyote hunting on the entire eastern seaboard and as far inland as that big river...can't remember the name of it at the moment?
Hey, this is first class stupid and I'm being stupid, in response to stupidity.
Good hunting. Lima Bravo
