Swell.............When I was younger, the phrase was "Life imitates art". Now, thanks to our government, "Life imitates a movie". Or is it a video game???
Actually, I fully support the idea of being prepared. Add to shopping list; MORE AMMO!!!!

Scary thought for the day; Can anybody foresee the time or place where ammo is used for currency???? The paper in my wallet is backed by the full faith & credit of the obama government. I can't eat gold and it won't hold an edge. But ammo............... With ammo I can put food on the table. With ammo I can defend myself, my family & my property. With ammo, there is real value.

Great, all you need is a shovel, step off X number paces and bury your hermetically sealed peanut butter jar.
Don't know why I just thought of this; my son knows a nerd, used to work with him and I have met him. He lived on some old man's property not far from here. The old man moved somewhere and before leaving, told this guy that he had buried $10,000 somewhere in the backyard, but he couldn't remember where?
This is a true story. The old man said he could have it if he could find it and he spent months digging all over the property and eventually, FOUND IT! Buried treasure!

While I continually strive to keep up my machine gun ammo, I have recently began to hoard 22lr ammo. It will be the new "gold" some day.
You heard it here first.

That's a very good observation! For some reason, I bought a couple bricks about a month ago, although my 22 shooting is almost nonexistent. But, I can certainly see the survivalist value of 22lr ammo.
Hey, I have a really weird firearm I bought from some jerk who needed a hundred bucks. It's hard to explain and even harder to research. It's a single shot 22, can be taken apart, and it's just a skeleton frame. There are no identifying markings on it, no serial number, nothing beyond the fact that it shoots 22lr.
My son mentioned recently that he thought it was a military survival gun, Airforce maybe? That sounded plausible.
Based on meager information provided, anybody have a guess what this is?

Most of the military "surplus", survival rifles are kinda compact. I was told that some were combo guns ie: 22 LR & 12 ga. or 22 Hornet & 12 ga.

Well, it's strictly 22lr, but something does rotate, I'd have to dig it out from the back of the safe to verify that. I have not really dicked with it too much, just sort of curious because I have never seen anything like it before. LB

The commercial guns all have 18.5" bls. The surplus guns were usually appx 12" bls. Thats why they have been destroyed.

if it comes to it i want a 22, you can carry alot of 22 lr in your pocket and not alot of wieght. about 5 year ago i bought everything gun related from a widow woman, sold most of it cause it was pistol stuff but i did keep all the 22, not because i think there is going to be a war, but if there is i will have it, but mostly cause i have a 5 yr old and i knew he would need it, he's shooting it up but it will take him awhile, i nded up with 14,600 rounds of shorts and lr

THAT'S IT, TOM!
Damn, that's good work. I couldn't find a damned thing about it. Even so, not much is known, Bronco but were they issued as survival gear and to who?
$188 koko. I thought you said I got screwed? Maybe "implied" is a better word?
Good hunting. El Bee
edit: I misspoke, it does have a serial number just like shown in one of the photos and I think it starts with a "B"? Anyway, that's it, exact same firearm. And I thought they were rare, I had never heard of it or anything similar. Just an impulsive purchase, for the hell of it.
edit: Thanks, Tom. You're okay, I don't care what they say. (just kidding) [ September 18, 2012, 07:05 PM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

Mike I'm going to the city tomorrow, let u know if I find any bargains.
Leonard you're welcome. That one looks pretty good, there was another one that was a little rough built, I'm glad you didn't get stuck with one of those.
As to if it was ever issued, I dont know.

Implied..............yes. Interesting thing to have laying around. But................ `Somebody` paid $188 for that??? You paid $100 for yours. (Assuming that yours isn't the cheaper model) However......for a couple of Benjamins, one can go to Gun Broker and find a number of Ruger 10-22s to chose from. The Ruger 10-22 is the standard that all other 22s are judged by. It can be customized to suit the user and will do `double taps` without jamming, all day long. Yeah........you paid a bit too much for a single purpose gun.

The 10/22... I've had a few of them and have never been that impressed with them.
Been looking for a knock around bolt gun and have about decided on a Sako quad with a plastic stock but I've yet to hold one much less shoot it. Still on the lookout for a "survival" 22 I just can't get behind the idea of having my Kimber threaded.
Maybe a G2 Contender?

For the record, mine, (Bronco) is in significantly better shape than the one offered for sale on ebay. With one qualification; the crude sight, what looks like it has been fashioned from a beer can needs improvement. Aftermarket, for sure, somebody must have lost the original? I meant to address that issue, but forgot. Even if I need to fabricate one it shouldn't take more than 20 minutes. Whatever, I don't agree with koko. I think I paid a fair price and would not have paid a dollar more. As far as 22 rifles go, the only one I own is a Browning auto and it's very cool.

Koko, I had a couple of the deluxes that were ok but the general feel of the stock/grip area, the mag release can be finicky, never seen one that was what I called accurate, spent money on aftermarket barrel and such and then it was too heavy for what it was and they start getting sluggish after 500 rounds or so.
But other than that....
Of course I'm a machine gunner and found better (for me) utility in my 15-22 and way better accuracy in my Kimber hunter. What I want is something good on both ends that can be beat on and not suffer, a threaded barrel would be a plus.

The Ruger 77/22 can be set up to fire all rimfire rounds. This is the earlier model with the removable barrel. Change the barrel, mag and trigger guard and you can go from 17 Mag/22 Mag to 22 LR and 17M2.
"Survival 22?" Marlin 70 PSS, aka Papoose. It's 3 1/4" pounds of fun and very portable. Ruger 10/22 TakeDown.
