This is all over our news. Shooting occurred by the Empire State Building. Apparently, a disgruntled worker who'd been previously laid off took some frustrations out on a co-worker & smoked him with a pistola. Subsequently, he was gunned down in the street by NYC Police. Odd thing is that several other people were shot, some fatally.
Be curious to see how this story unfolds and how many people died from this nut shooting and how many died from friendly fire from "NY's Finest" as they performed their duties to "protect and serve"...

Even two pit bulls; we can hope.
Maybe it's time for NYC to arm officers with the frangible bullets that don't ricochet all over the place, eventually hitting a pedestrian.

Wonder if any CCW holders got in on the action??

In New York? You are not very informed, Tim.
Good hunting. LB
Bloomberg wants to disarm Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland just because they are close proximity neighbors to NYC.

Soooo, the cops killed the shooter and also shot nine bystanders. WTF?
I don't know but with that level of protection in NYC, you almost would rather let the guy go home and talk him into surrendering or blowing his own head off.
In other words, I am not impressed with this. I'd put them all (permanently) on desk duty because they probably should not be authorized to carry a lethal weapon.
I mean, really?

Now all of us who thought the cop that shot the Pit Bull was right have to listen to the I told ya so 'ers who said it wasn't safe, due to the crowded sidewalks.

And this is what I was trying to get across to the ccw guys. A gun battle in a public area is going to get people hurt..

So, the cops fire 16 rounds, 4 of which strike & kill the guy. The other 12 are cause for the innocents shot & injured...
HERE's the surveillance VIDEO
guy calmly walking down street, prolly gonna go suck start his .45 back at home. Cops intervene and procced to shoot the crap outta the whole street...
thoughts?

Thoughts? Reflects poorly on New York cops, first for the way they confronted the guy, in the first place and primarily for the irresponsible way that they started blasting when the turd was forced to pull his gun. There is just so much wrong with that whole deal, especially the results. Question; did the turd get off a shot, or not?
Now, if the whole friggin' idea of disarming the citizens of NYC is because they can't possibly defend themselves, then the police are paid to do it for them. This is in direct opposition to places like Arizona and Florida where ordinary people can carry the means of self defense.
Of course, this only works if it works. When Bloomberg decides that the citizens cannot be trusted to their own self-defense, then he has assumed the responsibility of "Big Brother" and his infrastructure is supposed to take care of law enforcement.
Now, to some of us, law enforcement does not mean taking the report after a crime has been committed. However, in all too many cases, that is all that happens, ever. Here, the cops were close enough to make a difference and this is how they handled it.
Is there room for Monday morning criticisms? You bet your ass there is room for questioning the judgement of those sworn to serve and protect.
Now, if the question presented to us here is to support a previous discussion about shooting a friggin' dog, then I can only point out the VAST difference in the events and invoke the apples and oranges defense....which is MORE than adequate.

I am confused.. Looked like the two cops were shooting in too separate directions??
Posted by knockemdown (Member # 3588) on August 27, 2012, 04:30 PM:
CCP, the cop in front at the time the guns go off is a southpaw. He hustles up past his partner and takes a decent shooting position against the turd.
The cop bringing up the rear is a righty. You can plainly see how he circles out from behind his partner and away from the turd, while firing one handed in retreat. I've seen this in some really bad cowboys&injun movies, but ain't these cops posta be trained?
Cops & turd appear to be within 15ft of each other.
Turd never gets a round off.
16 shots loosed by two cops, 4 hit turd.
12 go elsewhere, 9 hit other human beings.
anyone seeing anything differently?
Posted by knockemdown (Member # 3588) on August 27, 2012, 04:41 PM:
Leonard, I agree with your analysis.
Can't help but think what would become of a CCW permit holder if they happened to shoot & wound NINE other HUMAN BEINGS while legally defending their own life with a handgun? Boy o' pasta, the anti gun media would be having a friggin' field day with that shit!
Aren't we all taught to "own our bullets" and be responsible for every one fired?
"know your target and what is beyond"?
Did the cops have to engage the turd RIGHT THERE, right then?
Could they have followed him and 'called it in'?
Seemd pretty obvious he was strolling on the down the street trying to make a smooth, calm exit from the area. Why not follow him and let the cavalry roll in?
Didn't look like suicide by cop to me, either.
Looked like lefty came storming past his ill prepared partner to take charge of the situation. Then they collectively batted a .250 avg on a man sized target at <15ft.
And they won't let ME have a handgun???

I think you pretty much got it Fred, at least from what I could see.
9 innocents hit is too much. I wonder how many of those were pass throughs, if any.

I just watched it again, twice. Paying attention to cop procedure this time, they look like a bunch of clowns. All the talk about training, training, training and they act like they never confronted an armed suspect in their life. Training out the window, as he crosses in front of fellow officer?
If 16 shots were fired, I can safely assume that was all they had, without reloading, which is one of the gun control arguments for limiting magazine capacity. What a joke!

I watched the video several times . If you go back thru it , look at the flowers in the pot just behind the killer. You mite have to watch it a few more times , but you can see "Lefty's bullets either going thru the guy, or some of the near misses making the flowers dance.

I blasted the cops in the other thread. Hindsight is 20/20, but letting the turd dictate the cops actions and reactions seems like it would have been a better choice. Course if the turd had become aware of the trailing coppers and latched onto a hostage, we'd be second guessing that too.
The righty needs to be put on the Barney squad too.

Good point Jim.
As far as the 9 innocents hit, word on the street has it they were hits from bullet fragmentation after the errant / pass through rounds hit a hard surface. Kind of makes sense, because no one was seriously injured that I know of.
Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on August 28, 2012, 05:42 PM:
Okay, what do cops use for standard issue? Those deadly hollow points or hardball? Seriously, I don't know? But I think they should be using hard ball, lethality (seems to me) is secondary.

That sure was a bad place to start a shoot out. I doubt there are any public places in NY to start an engagement other than maybe Central Park. IMHO the uniforms should have followed him until they could get some undercover cops on his tail and wait until he was home. Then hit his apartment with a swat team.
