Her cats dragged in a field mouse and when she first saw it, she thought it was dead. It scooted away and she could see that one leg was trailing, useless.

She picked it up and it bit her. Her daughter attempted to pick it up and it bit her, as well.

So, she did what any conscientious person would do and called the wildlife rescue who said to contact the Humane Society, which she did.

They arrived a short time later, picked up the patient and told me that she hopes they splint the leg and return it to the wild.......

This is a true story, told to me by my daughter, yesterday. She's 46 and my granddaughter is 19, you would think they would know better?

I can't really explain my reaction and attitude but did mention that mice have plague and other things that could be transmitted by a bite; even if the poor little creature was trying to defend itself.

It's hard to believe that such a lame zen type philosophy developed right under my nose. What could I say? Should have raised her on a farm or somewhere she might have learned something useful.

Good hunting. El Bee

Rabies would be my main concern. I hope the bleeding heart Humane Society explained that danger, and are smart enough to keep a close watch on that poor little creature for ten days.

Leonard, what would they have done if it had been a Brown Recluse spider or a poisonous snake? Just the thought scares me. [Confused]

I know, Al. But, when they have their mind set, it just causes too much conflict to argue the issue, so I adopt a serene attitude, like it could be worse. She's a very good daughter, good marriage, good kids, good husband of 21 years in August.

On the other hand, I was talking to a long time school chum a few days ago and the subject came up. He voted for Obama and I was damned near speechless, told him I needed to go lay down for a while. He did say that it probably won't happen again so he has not totally lost his mind.

Somebody should tell her they stomped it a short time later.

Seems like I heard a similar story recently. Can't recall all the details but the rescuer got bit and died from something the rescuee bestowed upon him. That's gratitude for ya. Sure hope your gals fare better.

Yes, I know. But, this is the same daughter that had a damned eagle drop a fawn right in front of her car. She loaded it in the car and took it to her vet. It died shortly thereafter, punctured lung. You would not believe the money she spends on her dogs and cats, last cat had his cancerous leg amputated; I think she said $6,000 hospital bill. As far as I'm concerned, that's crazy.

Yeah, it seems that no good deed goes unpunished;
Many years ago, my wife was rescuing a stray cat & got bit and scratched for her troubles. She ended up spending several days in the hospital over it. Seems that `Cat Scratch Fever` is more than just a Ted Nugent song. She was pretty sick there for a while.

Hope that your kin-folk are ok. Getting bit by anything can be bad.

As I recall, your daughter does live in the San Francisco area. Perhaps it's something in the water.

It's even worse across the Golden Gate in Marin, Chris. Those "hot tubbers" are decidedly Liberal and "green". It's actually beautiful but the politics would drive me completely nuts. Nanc would have liked to move up there, to be close. I wasn't sure we could afford it, among other considerations, but you always want to take the spouse's opinions seriously.

Yep, your health depends on it and I have the scars to prove it. [Wink] I don't know if anyone around here gives a hoot, but wife and I celebrated our 52nd wedding anniversary the day before yesterday.

Hey, that's great, Rich! Congratulations! That's quite an accomplishment!

Nanc and I would have celebrated 50 years, this past January, had she survived. We both thought we would, for sure. The truth is, you can never be sure of anything.

I sure give a hoot, about the old Cronkster and his sweet wife, Mary, who just happens to be about as good a cook as you will ever sample a meal from. Congrats to both of you.

Mr Cronk, congratulations on the 52nd. Leonard sorry to hear you guys didn't get to 50.

If something drastic doesn't happen we'll hit 21 years on Sept 7th, I think ?

Thank you guys! I have been pretty much a cripple since I had bunions cut off from both feet on July 2nd, so my mood hasn't been too friendly I'm afraid. Although I am glad that I had it done, my advise to those over 60 who ask what they should do about their bunions is this.---Buy wider shoes and live with em.

Leonard, considering your comments above, I sure hope you never see Admiral William McRaven's interview by Wolf Blitzer, where the subject of the interview was the Bin Laden raid, etc.. Don't want to make you ill, you know. [Smile]

"this is the same daughter that had a damned eagle drop a fawn right in front of her car."

Same thing happened to me once! Except, it was a red fox and it dropped it in a field down the street from my house. I ran the eagle off, took the fox home, skinned it and sewed up the damage. Sold it for $20.

We must come from different worlds. [Wink]

Congratulations, Rich. 52 years is something to be proud of.

As far as the bunions, I can say the same thing about your gallbladder. If it isn't hurting you, keep it. If it's only bad enough that it puts you on the crapper every time you eat, you ain't seen nothing yet. You'll spend a year or more familiarizing yourself with the tile on the wall across from the the toilet every 20 minutes or so. Never have I read more books than I did in the 6 months after surgery. Lying bastards said it was an organ I can get along without. [Frown]

Rich; Congrats on the anniversary. My wife & I just had #36. How, I have no idea but we just keep rolling along.

So, Lance...........you admit to taking advantage of a Federally protected bird to harvest animals and further admit to harassing an endangered species by `running it off` for financial gain.
Stay where you are and keep your hands in plain sight; the black helicopters will be landing in your yard shortly. You're in a heap o' trouble, son. [Big Grin]

Congratulations to you and Mary, Rich.
Like LB and Nancy, Bruce and I always thought we'd grow old together. We would have celebrated 31 this year.

Good catch KOKO! I was wondering how lawful it was to hunt red fox in Kansas by use of a Raptor. [Big Grin]

Leonard,
Me and Koko don't give a hoot about them there rules, we are just having some fun with Lance. I know that he is likely writing a new book about foxes and Eagles as we speak, so hold on to your hat. [Big Grin]

Yeah, he's one of those rolling in dough Government employees with so much spare time he could write War And Peace backwards in a week, or so, between luxury retreats and big bonuses for having a neatly organized locker. As least that's how the Public Sector looks from my perspective associated with the tax paying private sector.

Hey just teasing Lance!

Actually, El Bee;
(Climbing up on a soap-box, here)
Yeah, my parents were Democrats........back when that wasn't a bad thing. Remember J.F.K.??? Remember "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country"??? One doesn't hear that coming from the party of public welfare much these days.
Remember Hubert Humphrey?? Go listen to some of his old speeches. He was a goofy bastard but he was more conservative than our recent standard bearer, John McCain.
Before the democrats were taken over by the corrupt Daly political machine out of Chicago they actually stood for moral values, but somewhere along the line they adopted the 'Big Tent' philosophy and embraced every wacko fringe group, living or dead, in existence for the sake of votes & power.
It's been a sad, shameful road downhill that they've taken.
Ok, end of rant.......back to picking on the CDude.

Lance, Regarding this crime that you've already confessed to; did it or did it not take place while you were on 'Tax-payer Time'??? What we need here is an investigation. Even though there's no real evidence, the seriousness of the allegations are too important to ignore. [Roll Eyes] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Roll Eyes]

Was he read his Miranda rights before spilling his guts? I move to toss all illegally obtained evidence. Na na na na.

There was a rumor that he spent that illicit twenty bucks on weed? Anybody?

Good hunting. LB

edit: don't worry about it, my parents voted for a lot of Democrats too. I have a personal hard on for Kennedy. The fucker extended me for both the Berlin Crisis and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Caused me a lot of grief and a lot of money; long story.

In my own defense, the eadle was already being tomrneted by at least ten crows. I submit that I was there, first and foremost, to protect the eagle from the crows. The fox being abandoned by all aforementioned avian subjects led to a situation where I didn't see the morality of letting a perfectly dead fox go to waste, so I took it. Yes, it was in season. No, it wasn't in town, but you could see it from town. No, I wasn't on the clock. Well, actually, I saw it all go down while on the clock but went back on my own time to "recover" the fox. And no, neither the eagle or the crows protested.

Now, I'm kinda scared that since I ran the crows off and crows, as you know, are black, did I commit a hate crime? Sounds awful racist to me. Hell, exceptin' for his head and tail, that eagle was black, too. I'm gonna defend myself by saying I broke up a gang fight.

CDude; In light of recent revelations, we're going to drop all charges, but still keep a close eye on you. [Big Grin]

So.........El Bee;
"A personal hard on for Kennedy"
I believe that establishes motive.
Can you account for your where-abouts on 22 Nov. 1963???
What do you know about grassy knolls???
You do own an arsenal of sniper rifles, don't you??? [Cool]
Have you ever snuck into Old Mexico to allegedly `retrieve a coyote`?? Who did you meet with while you were there???
This looks bed, El Bee. Really bad.
Don't be surprised if Micheal Moore makes a movie about you. [Eek!]

Yes, all true, but circumstantial, you can't lay a glove on me.

Anybody watching the NBC Olympics? Man! The coverage just plain sucks! SUCKS! Being a shut in, I have plenty of time to watch it, but mostly record it so I can edit the stupid commercials. But, the reporting is amateurish and on the nightly show, all you see is the essentials and what they want you to see and (for sure) nothing that they don't want you to see. It's all fluff; and end of rant.

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: and, I know it looks bed.
