I started running last September, and have really gotten hooked on it. Did a 5K in December, a 10K on the 4th of July and today I did another 5K. I run 3-5 days a week but really enjoy these races. Though at almost 48 years old, finishing is winning.
Anyone else run?

You're lookin trim, Tom.
I ran at the academy 24 years ago, if that counts. My wife ran the NY Marathon two years ago, and was going to run it this year but now she is having back problems (probably from running).
Stay well.

Every time I think of doing something like that, I am reminded of a conversation I had with my orthopedic surgeon. I told him that I had difficulty kneeling, at the time I was replacing a receptacle and also mentioned that it bothered me to run. He looked up and said: You can't do either of those things. Period. So, what I gained from the knee replacement was elimination of pain at the expense of mobility, and lately I still have some pain, especially when I move. But, on the other hand, after a full day at the gun show, my leg just aches something terrible. Growing old ain't for sissies.
Good hunting. LB

Keep it up you're doing great!
Wish I could run, right knee replaced in 2010, and to many collasped disks in the lower back now, with a pinched sciatic nerve.
I need to fire up the treadmill and get back slowly into it.

Beatin' feet's to hard on the bod. I've got a Mt. Bicycle that I ride on BLM two-tracks. Plus, I get to watch for coyote sign.

Yeah it's the sciatic nerve that makes a wimp out of me. Don't ask me how, exactly, but it's due to the spinal stenosis at L2 to L5. Pressure on the spinal cord sends signals/spasms to various locations. It shows up like numbness in my toes and chronic lower back pain. But, I control it with morphine sulfate. For the most part. The past week and a half have been a little bad, but it will get better and I refuse to take the full dosage.
Good hunting. LB

No training wheels on the bicycle. The roller blades, on the other hand............ Seriously, those things are going to kill me. For Sa1e; Size 10 roller blades in good shape. Set of ski poles included. $10.00 See me in Globe at the convention.

Mine is an old Schwinn Sierra that I've had forever. Built like a tank and compared to the new bikes on the market, it rides like a tank, too. I've had 80# of hunting gear, camping equipment & water on mine before and have used it to haul out deer & feral pig. If you're in an area with gated roads, mountain bikes can be the hot ticket. With the newer bikes, from what I've seen, the new thing is the suspension system. Front, back & seat. Easy riding but I still put my faith in a solid frame. YMMV BTW; You can pay anything you want for a bike, from a `deal` at a yard sale to more than you paid for your first car. Best advice I can give; Figure out what you're going to use it for, talk to people who do the same thing you're going to do with it, decide what you want & then what you actually need.

Good work on the running!!! I am entering my first run ever in August. 10K. I run 1-3 times a week and play softball so I should be ok.
I consider it training for the season...

Good luck Patterson, if I could offer any advice it's this;
1. Careful on the water stops, I made 3 of the 5 on the course and it added almost a minute to my time.
2. Pacing yourself behind a lovely young lady in spandex doesn't hurt.

Ya know 64, when i was a kid my grandfather use to plow a garden every spring. He had an old single row plow and a jack mule. Usually about half way through the job , the ole jack would quit. So papa would fetch my cane pole (fishing rod for any yankees reading this), he would attach a carrot on the hook & dangle it just out of reach of the mule, and go back to plowing. It worked every time even tho we didn't have any spandex back then. Sniff, Sniff [ July 23, 2012, 01:07 PM: Message edited by: Prune Picker ]

I think you have hit on something! Naked marathons just like the originals. So what if we collapse and die at the finish line. We are victorious! Rejoice!
But, what about those jiggling boobs? How you gonna watch them from behind?

I used to, back when I was young. I'd go down to the local junior college track and crank out 3 miles, maybe 4, no prob. Then I got older, but even at 40 I could do it. Then I got heel spurs...game over. I miss it. Even as old and decrepit as I am, I still miss it.

Good for you, Tom! I used to run for miles, hardly ever walked when travelling somewhere across country, except on rough ground, from age 15 to mid 20's. Did 10k cross country runs as part of wilderness camps I worked with till into my 50's, but my knees got to hurting when I run. I never entered a formal race. There weren't nearly as many opportunities in my prime days. Wish I had. They are fun events.
My daughter ran marathons near Washington DC (Marine sponsored), Seattle and another one or two, plus shorter races sometimes with her two brothers jogging along. That damaged her back enough that she had to quit.
One of my sons has competed in Iron Man races and done very well, but life and kids etc. has set that aside. If Iron Man races had existed in my younger years, I would have loved that. Don't know how well I would have done competitively but would have enjoyed them.
I know, the older I get the better I was... !!! [ July 28, 2012, 11:12 AM: Message edited by: Okanagan ]

I got invited to a mud run the end of September, don't really know what all it is but I'm gonna run it. I'll need new shoes by that time anyway.
Neighbor brought home 3 bikes for his family today. I looked at them, hybrids of some sort and they looked about like I think I want. I'll go to the bike shop Monday.

Like I said, heel spurs, so no real running for me, not for distance, anyway.
But...should they also offer mud-wrestling , co-ed of course, then I'm your huckleberry! ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif) [ July 28, 2012, 03:59 PM: Message edited by: DEL GUE ]

TOM64, what happened to the top photo? Some people say that photobucket dumps photos for obscure reasons, or no reason, like they expire or something?

Damn! I did that once when I lived in Houston, my one and only 5K in that town, back around 1984 or 1985. One thing is for sure...whatever pace she is holding, you're damn sure gonna keep it! ![[Razz]](tongue.gif)
