Just saw today that Lynn "Buck" Compton passed away in California this week. Buck was one of the Band of Brothers characters. He came back from the war to work in the LA District Attorney's office, and I think, eventually went on to be the District Attorney for LA County.
He prosecuted Sirhan Sirhan after he killed Bobby Kennedy.
Definitely sad losing the greatest generation...

Those guys of that generation were the greatest. I sure do miss my dad. He joined the Navy at age 17 for WWII.

Yes. I regret not talking to those vets when I had the chance, most are gone.
I have one uncle up in Reno that was in Europe. Hardly ever mentions it. Make that never, but I saw a photo of him in a Memorial Day Parade a few years ago...in uniform, no less, riding in the back of a Jeep.

I'm a history buff and have read a lot about him and the rest of the 'Band'.This Wiki blip appears to be fair and accurate based on other sources.The assorted interviews of the 'band' members have universally agreed his medals,bravery and accomplishments far outweigh the 'combat fatigue' incident.
IMO,another true American hero.

I looked at that Wiki page, had a photo of the man in uniform and said he was in the 101st airborne. But, the patch on his cunt cap is 82nd airborne. Wonder why the discrepancy?

The glider and parachute on the "c"cap is worn by both the 101st Puking Buzzards and 82nd All Americans. Needless to say you can tell what Division I was a member of.

Hey, I damn near jumped with the 82nd during the Cuban missile crisis. The loadmaster on the C124 was all for it, but my CO said I would have to walk back from Bragg. To Eglin.

That glider patch is jut a bit bigger than a silver dollar. We us to have the patch sewn over the silver dollar, came in handy when you got into a bar brawl.
I got a good story about the Cuban crisis, might share it with you latter on. Also made a jump from the last C-124 in the inventory, early 70's in the Congo. That's a fun place!!!
