The front line. I'm reminded of a recent interview where our local Sheriff, Dickon COunty, Kansas, Sheriff Gareth Hoffman, was asked about his philosophy of enforcing the law and he said, "I feel that the people of Dickinson County deserve to get the type of law enforcement they want." Not what the government tells him - the people.

Although I don't have a clue what it is all about, in principle, I support local county law enforcement, if it comes down to conflict with Federal agents. Obama is a big offender and the worst was Janet Reno, who should still be arrested and put on trial. TWICE!

Those southern county Sheriff's that have to deal with illegal aliens have been severely dis-armed by our radical muslim President. I sit here in disbelief at the large numbers of our voting public who have been brain washed by Obama and company. I guess they are blind, stupid and deaf?

Sounds interesting but the picture is much larger than what is revealed in the story.
What do you suppose "the people" and the sheriffs will do when the Federal govt. takes away any and all federal monies that are now allocated to the states and counties in question? Possibly a change in heart?
Besides that I don't think taking power from one dictatorship and giving it to another is a great idea.

That's a good point JD. Being from a state agency, I know we are dependent upon federal money. I don't know about the local county sheriff though, or to what extent..

It has always been extortion, hammering compliance by withholding money originating locally, like sales tax. A chickenshit method, but always works. That's how California sales tax pays for Oklahoma's roads, stuff like that. Then, they give us back 80% of what we sent them and treat it like it's a friggin' gift from the Emerald City.
Here come the Feds! And, their double jeopardy when the local cop is not guilty.

edit: actually, I'm not sure about sales tax? Whatever? The states collect money and send it to Washington and the rulers decide where to send it back, and how much. [ November 17, 2011, 02:10 PM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

I agree LB, allowing the Feds to have ANY power is astonishing to me, states should have 99.9% of the power within their respective borders. There is NO good way to give that sort of power to someone or some group who have absolutely nothing vested in the local communities.

Umm. We sound like a couple Rebs? Like, was the civil war about freeing the slaves, or about state's rights? A million people dead to abolish slavery, or was it to keep the federal assholes out of their business? That's too simple, but so is preserving the Union and, thereby, freeing the blacks.
Obama likes pure power, I'm sure of that. How far would he go? Far.

Stupidity runs deep in this country. How in the hell could people vote for an asshole with no experience and a catchy slogan? It's like Jimmy Carter all over again and it's UNBELIEVABLE! The thought that he could be reelected keeps me up at night.
The friggin' Media. Off with their heads! Gotta be the answer: brainwashed. JD should be in rehab.

Question: Been running around in my head this morning, Occupy stuff going on, and such.
Let us say there is bad shit going on in Los Angeles and the LAPD is okay with drugs and rapes, etc. Does the L.A. County Sheriff actually have jurisdiction if they decide to move in and arrest the squatters and any city police that object?

LA County Sheriff would have jurisdiction Leonard, as would the Highway Patrol. I don't think you would see them come in though, unless it were to assist the LAPD, much like the Highway Patrol did during the LA riots.
The only way I could see another agency with jurisdiction coming in to arrest squatters if LAPD objected to it would be if ordered from higher above, like the governor. [ November 18, 2011, 12:19 PM: Message edited by: 4949shooter ]

I "think" LAPD and LA County Sheriff's Dept are about the same, in manpower, somewhere around 7,000 or so? Maybe a little more? So, who would win?

Now the feds are going after Joe. I wonder how long before they continue this in other states. He has a large target on his back due to the fact he's never met a camera he didnt like. All the smae he is now being persacuted for being someone that was actully doing thier job. You should have heard the local media outlets last night What a goon squad. They're still mopping up the saliva this morning.
