There is always time to go fishing in South Dakota and the fishing has been GREAT.
Who said the fish were biting in the Pierre area? When I can catch fish like this, it has to be quite a bite. These were some fish that were caught from the hanicapped pier in the tailrace waters just below the Oahe Dam. The pic showing the channel catfish were part of four stringers caught by myself and three other fisherman. These catfish averaged 5-6 pounds each and were caught using frogs for bait. Earlier in the day the other guys I was fishing with also caught some 10-20# channel cats.
This 6# largemouth bass caught in the Oahe tailwaters was a BIG surprise when I was plug fishing for walleyes this past weekend. It surfaced several time before we landed it. This was the biggest bass that I have ever caught.

By the time these guys used up their frogs for bait, we ended up with four stingers of these 5-6# channel cats. I think that I got home about 1 AM and after the filleting, cleaning, and packaging of the fish, I got to sleep around 3 AM.
Yes they have been mighty tasty, so far just pan fried and I have been given quite a few recipes to try. Evan a couple a beer batter recipes to try with my deep fat fryer.
This ought start your mouth a watering!!!!
Today the discharge from the dam was very low and the water level below the fishing pier was about three foot less than two days ago. We didn't catch any fish today.
Predator calling and fishing are similar, some day's they bite and some days they don't.

Yes, a nice bass, six pounds is a very good fish. Is that a walleye, in front of that stringer?

Yes the front fish is a walleye. I went back out to the tail-waters of the Oahe Dam last night and came home with one walleye and two more 5 pound channel cats. I had a big fish on that I fought with for 20 minutes, that resulted with NO FISH because of a broken hook. I had it in close but it was dark and I never got to see the fish, I presume it was BIG channel cat.
These cats caught from the fresh water of the Missouri River taste fantastic. Much better than those caught in the smaller river waters that come in to the Missouri River.
Last night the walleyes were biting on Rapala Husky Jerks with the Fire Tiger coloration and of coarse that was the plug color that I didn't have. I ordered three of those plugs on eBay today so I will have to give them a try next week.
