I don't know about you guys, but it sure does feel like we are going to have a double dip recession. Work couldn't be any worse. My work normally falls off at the end of summer, but I haven't had enough work come in to pay overhead this month. It has been quite a while since that has occurred. How are all of you guys doing right now? Is business up, down or flat?
I just found this tidbit here so I edited this link into my post:
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/business/indexes/country_financial_security_index/country_financial_security_index
The COUNTRY Financial Security Index® dropped 1.3 points to 62.4 in August, the lowest reading in the survey's history.

Static, around here, but there still seems to be people with a lot of money to spend. That will never change.
But, I see / in fact I was just up at the local mini mall on the corner. There is a tailor shop, a Italian Deli, a barber shop, a Mexican restaurant, a bagel shop, a supermarket, an Italian restaurant, a bank, a jeweler, a travel agency, a Hallmark gift shop, a pharmacy&postoffice, a nail salon, a chinese restaurant, some kind of a pet grooming business, a Mexican fast food (Legends) and...whoa! What happened to the Liqueur store? It has been there since 1975, changed ownership once and now, boarded up.
That's pretty bad when a Liqueur store folds. Of course, I never went in there, but you would think there are enough people not wanting to stand in line at Stater Bros, to get their 12 pack?
I see this all over town, here and there, a closed business, a foreclosed house, big sales, huge discounts everywhere. And, lots of those guys on the corners twirling big signs.
I can't see Obama getting, much less deserving a second term?

I'm one of the lucky ones that don't have to worry about work, as long as people in my district keep eating, well, they'll keep sending me business at the WWTP. BUT what I do see is stagnation around here. No one, or not many, are going out to eat, and not many people out and about on weekends. Ya hear it every where, people are worried and have no reason to beleive that this president will or even wants to change his direction. In his mind, his way is the way, no matter what is going on around him. Businesses are all worried about regulations coming down the pike, and let's face it, with this president running his campaign not on his accomplisments, but instead, class warfare, why does anyone want to better themselves when the government only wants to take your gains away from you. Not once has Obama bragged about any accomplishments in the last few days on his bus tour. For the next 14 months he's going to spend 1 billion on trashing his opponents because he has zero accomplishments that are popular. I do believe that we're headed for double dip and higher unemployment for the simple fact that Obama will not bend in his ways. He is a one termer..because of his lack of compromise.

Our economy revolves around oil and agriculture. What has hurt us most this year is the drought...some of my customers have only logged 4 inches of moisture since January 1. Those farmers that have grain to sell are doing well...very seldom do you see high grain prices and high cattle prices, but it is happening now.
Land is selling for all time highs despite the lack of rain.
Our umemployment is relatively low, so if people are out of a job it is their own fault.
What scares me is the fact we seem to be heading for inflation. Bernanke is doing everything he can to get his boy reelected by holding interest rates down past '13.
You can mark this down--we will see $150 oil again along with everything else running rampant! [ August 16, 2011, 06:59 PM: Message edited by: booger ]

Had a slow start due to all the rain but things started to pick-up till we had a state shut down which lasted over a week.. At the time we had two state jobs going on and since the state shut down there was a breach of contract, now the state is at our mercy.. One big contractor went belly up due to the shut down and lost his 36 million dollar bond.. State asked us to take over the job, still thinking on it...LOL It seems like the farmers and grain Elavators are doing pretty good and alot of elavators are exspanding and we have been doing alot of private work for them, hope the fall rains stay away..

Thanks for the response guys. Bearhunter we had a hail storm last october that created a small boon to the distressed construction workers here in Phoenix. The crew that reroofed my house had mostly white carpenters. One guy was a City of Phoenix building inspector three years ago, but got laid off when building permits dropped to record lows. I'm afraid it will be all over fairly soon. BO has to lose his job before the rest of the country can go back to work.

It aint gonna be over soon......it's just gettin started, they have been printing money like it's free and when it reaches the market we're gonna see inflation that will make grown men cry when they realize that they are flat ass broke, if you already own a home you'd damn sure better get the rate locked NOW cuz in a couple years those rates have NO CHOICE but to be spiked, there's no way out.......anybody remember the early 80s....it's gonna be worse....pay off your cars and other debts and hang on cuz we're just gettin started. Real estate is still falling, one or two more dying breaths and that shit will be DEAD.
Mock me if you will, just mark this thread and lets revisit it in 2 or 3 years.

It gripes my ass that Obama is using everything as an alibi, the economy he inherited because Bush drove it into the ditch, and even a tsunami, and the irresponsible Tea Partiers that almost caused the U.S. to default. Now, seems like I have heard it pointed out back before the election that when they had a filibuster proof majority in the Senate and a solid majority in the house and controlled the office of the President, that they decided to hold off on raising the debt limit because, as Harry Reid said, they wanted Republicans to "own" some of the responsibility.
So, they kicked the can down the road and look who wound up in the driver's seat in the House? They have no one to blame but themselves for the whole thing. It has not been proved that some dire consequences awaited the country if we didn't raise the debt limit, BUT the Democrats are blaming the Tea Party for what they say MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED. Dishonest spin control. The bastards had it wrong all the way but have the nerve to blame the Tea Party for what MIGHT have happened.
I wish the Republicans could lie like the Democrats but that's impossible.

JD: the fed has tried and true methods to reduce the money supply too. We all just have to hope and pray that they get it right or you predicitons will be right on. The Fed has greatly increased the money supply but it hasn't caused inflation because money isn't moving. The turn over rate is way down for several factors. Once the velocity of money increases the Fed will have to act quickly.
On the up side, a survey shows the top 200 Corporations in America have increased their cash holding another 18% over previously record highs. Once corporate America senses that the Obama policies are over, I belive we will see unprecidented growth IF THE FED GETS IT RIGHT.

If the hope of your financial future is placed squarely on the back of the Fed being able to save us then I'm afraid you will be sorely disappointed and broke in a few short years, the reason the stock market is where it's at right now is only because it has shadowed the rate at which money has been printed, up, up up that money is STILL not in circulation "hit the market" whatever you want to call it, it's still tied up in the financial institutions but when it does flood the market inflation will be unbelievable, all this BS is only delaying the inevitable crash and recovery, it will happen, it has to happen, the markets don't have a base to support what they show on paper and that gets worse every day. I'm not panicked but I damn sure aint buying real estate on 5 year balloon notes right now, I'm cutting back and hunkering down for a few years until this thing fully develops.
