Just wanted to know what everyone is doing right now...getting ready for the season? Fishing? Shooting? Reloading?
After almost 40 days of 100 plus heat, and humidity that makes me sweat like a car load of fat girls going to a Ricky Martin concert, I am ready for some cool weather and calling!
Been too hot to shoot my .17 Fireball and test the loads, or try to get my .223 bolt gun shooting good with DAA's test load method.
I did draw a mule deer tag for Western Kansas and am going to un-mothball my grandad's 30.06 he had custom made in Germany in 1927 and see if I can use it to get a big deer!
Lance, sorry to hear about your daughter...hope things work out well with her and your job. If you get the hankerin, give me a shout and we can call plenty of ground in Russell, Barton, Rush or Ness Counties...my new job has allowed me unfettered access to a bunch of new ground.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing, wringing out a new daylight gun, getting close. I'll be doing a combo dove and coyote trip bracketed around Labor day.

Like Booger I want to extend sympathies to Lance. Hang in there and this too will pass. Now as for what's happnin'? Cool? Only because the AC is running and thankfully we havn't run out of lectricity but that may change. Been makin knives and need to do some reloading. Once October gets here my wife will be widowed. Missed the entire hunting season last year with my run in with West Nile so I have catching up to do. Oh well she has a truck and a check book so she can entertain herself to the limits of my paycheck.

Hotter than hell in FL. Sleep...eat...work...(repeat).
Although I did amble down to Dick's this afternoon and come home with a box of Velocitors. And have a box of CCI segmented Quik Shok HP's inbound. And before hunting season I'd like to pick up one of those Nikon 3-9x40 22 scopes with the BDC 150 reticles to throw on my 10/22.
Also watched a helluva good ball game today, Rays vs Toronto, went 12 innings culminating in a Rays win. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)
And last night's game was wild too, with the Rays playing small ball on their way to a solid win.

Getting skulls cleaned with my beetles as fast as they can work in order to have my freezer's cleared out by this winter's predator season. Sighted in several rifles. Practiced field shooting on rabbits and a few ratty coyotes. Killed a couple rattle snakes just to make myself feel good. Loaded new sounds on my e-caller. Played with another new e-caller in order to get used to it before I start hunting with it. Continue to practice with hand calls and mostly focus on coyote vocals. Did some handloading and also worked on my truck so it's already for hunting season. Pretty much hate the month of August and September as I'm ready to hunt, but I'm forcing myself this year to wait until October. Might have to go shoot some prairie dogs and gophers just to give myself a fix.

licking bear burger off my chops. mmmm, good stuff. trying to get caught up on work. started building a garage yesterday. should be done next week. than i gotta build a deck, than 1 week of bearhuntin. gotta stock the freezer. was a cool/wet spring than turned into a hot/wet summer. farmers are gonna suck hind tit this year. still kickin and had no internet gossip/hatred going on so i'm good to go ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

Troy. it's gonna be a .17-204. savage action,stockade stock with a lilja 9 twist barrel. just bought a weaver 3x15x42 to top it off. this is my first build and will only have about 1300.00 into it. hopeing to get 4200 with 30's out of it. last year i left over 50 coyotes in the field due to excessive fur damage. with all the deep snow i did'nt feel like dragging out a 10.00 dog. but the market seems to be improving so i did this to (hopefully) cut down on the damage

Usual summer stuff here. Camping, wheeling, fishing, BBQ, motorcycle etc. Shot a few 'chucks last month. That's the only shooting/hunting I've done all summer though.

That sounds like a great fur friendly caliber. What were you shooting last year that was so tough on the coyotes? I mostly use my AR in .223 and blow up a few, but many. I've also seen some pretty bad damage from a .204. The consistantly worse caliber in my experience is the 22-250. It kills coyotes just fine but blows the crap right out'a them. Heck, I've had better luck fur-wise with a .243 than a 22-250. I've heard that a Sierra 52gr. hp Match King in the 22-250 is a little more fur friendly but I have year to try it. I do like the sound of a 17-.204 though. Let me know how that works out for you?

I'm still enjoying runnin' the dog everyday in the woods after work. He seems to do a pretty good job of finding something to chase & seeing him act a fool makes me smile!
A little inshore fishin' here & there, but no serious offshore trips. Been watching my niece alot on the weekends.
Rollin' ammo during the week & burnin' it on the weekends I can get away. Got a nice little .22LR bolt gun that is fun (and cheap) to practice with. The long guns are really shootin' well...
Tried a couple times to get a coyote in front of the pup to him mess with, but haven't had much luck. A good chunk of the private land I hunt is being logged and I can't set up to where it'd be advantageous for the pup to see one coming Not without a skidder working, at least...
Trying to save up some loot to put toward airfare for hookin' up with some buddies again this year. Hopefully, AZ, Colorado, Oklahoma & maybe Utah...
Anxious for fall already, so I can kill something!!!

Waiting on cooler weather, it's 105 right now at 10:00am, been between 115 and 120 all week.
Other than that I've fished a little, loaded some and got a new rifle ready. Still walking 4 miles everyday before work, lining up new land, playing with the Grandaughters when I can and trying to push off the urge to kill something till it cools down.
Fall can't get here soon enough.

It's time to drag out your ecaller and charge the battery(s).
Blow the pocket lint and dust out of your handcalls, at least a couple dozen, the rest don'r have any lint, never seen the inside of a pocket.
Maybe wash your camo although has probably shrunk so buy larger size.
For those of us that hand load, what are you waiting for? Get started.

I've transitioned over to shooting both bows on a regular basis, getting ready for elk season. Got plenty of ammo. loaded already for predator callin'. Done whackin' prairie dogs, so probably could reload some of that ammo., if I get bored. Yard work has slowed down, and workin' out has picked up, just 4 weeks until elk season opens.

Work, work, and more work. Hopefully no more school till at least next fall. Got a break today and it is in the 80's, but occational rain. It's been in the high 90's and low 100 for a few weeks at least.
Construction can be a feast and/or famine deal around here.

Getting a bunch of ammo loaded for my new AR, waiting for the scope to arrive for it, trying to keep up with a large group of grandchildren and great grandchildren, wishing it would hurry up and cool down some, getting ready for the start of crow season, and getting all my ducks in a row for my coyote time to begin. Finally, looking for some sources of income and getting older than running water, day by day.

Apache and Roosevelt lakes here in AZ.
Top pic is from Chickamauga in Tenn.
Caught 48 in one day all about the same size as Teresa is holding.
My son is holding an 8#er and the bottom two pics are me and my son, we caught 38 that day.
All Large Mouth bass Leonard.
Here is a couple small Stripers.....
First pic is a 5#er and the second my friend Wayne is holding is a 15#er

That makes a lot more sense. The Colorado river is a lot further drive, for you than is Roosevelt, but what I have seen of that lake, it's more mountainous terrain? Also, I know the difference between a bass and a striper, I was thinking you were fishing the river, kinda looked like it. In any case, looks like fun! Dang, I haven't angled for bass in a long time, but we have them very close at Lake Silverwood, which also has some lunker stripers. Real lunkers, like 40+ lbs. But that's very dedicated fishing, right bait, correct tackle, timed right after they stock rainbows, otherwise you could fish that lake for 40 years, as I have, and never see one.
