THERE is a copper who knew what was going on and acted, adjusted to the situation accordingly.
KUDOS to him for a job well done.
Now here is a link right out of Upland California that shows the opposite effect of the same situation with two guys who are advocating open carry and passing out phamplets on open carry.
A lawsuit has already been filed on this matter in US District Court. A local newspaper article has the Chief of Police admitting fault in this matter.

From Minute 1, you could tell the cops weren't worried about their "safety".
In fact their officer safety just sucked!!!

My personal opinion on your link...much ado about nothing. The open carry advocates escalated the situation by becoming assholes. Even in Arizona where open carry is commonplace, when a cop asks for your weapon, your best option is to give it up and let him do his business. Is this fundamentally right? Probably not, but until cops stop getting shot when making routine traffic stops, it's just the way things are.
An asshole within his rights will get treated like an asshole. I do it every time I encounter one. I just don't carry a badge and am not held to a higher standard in dealing with assholes.

Second video, I think I know where that deal occurred, about three blocks from the new police station and I know Mendenhall because he used to sell gun safes at the gun shows on weekends and his brother lived across the street from me where I saw his unit parked frequently. Generally speaking, I don't like the Upland PD attitude, us against them.
That third one is amazing. Perfect example of how the cop can guide somebody into a position where they feel justified in pumping ten 40 caliber rounds into him.
Police are just not comfortable with an armed citizen.

George your comment has merit. That big goomer of a cop should have handled the driver at the sametime his partner was handling the passenger.
Seems neither officer is paying much attention to the driver. If one is concerned about officer safety the quicker EVERYONE is controlled the better.
If the driver was intend on shooting that cop he would have been able to get off the first round. Those of us who know, getting off the first round usually dictates the outcome.
LB that incident with Upland PD happened up at the Colonies Crossroads shopping center up there at Campus and the 210 freeway.

I haven't watched Georges videos but I have to agree with him that those CA guys are nuts.
I thought I misunderstood but who cares if you can legally carry an unloaded firearm... Those guys need to pick something else to be campaign for, maybe gay rights?
Since 49 won't play, I'll play his part.
As for the cops, they went about it the wrong way but if I were in their shoes, I might have proved a point or two myself but they have to uphold the law and make sure procedure doesn't break the law, while keeping everyone safe.
They need to change the laws to something with a little common sense. As I've stated before, open carry is stupid, open carry of an unloaded gun is rediculous, issue concealed carry permits to those with a brain and make it mandatory for the issued to co-operate with the police as far as license and info. Quit being asses and you won't have to deal with as many. (That part goes both ways) Make it clear that the issued have the right to carry and will be treated with their rights in mind.

Tom, I'm not for certain since I don't have a CCW, but I believe that in Kansas, you are required to follow a lawfully prescribed SOP when
in contact with law enforcement. That is to ensure that everyone plays by the same rules, and common sense. If you are contacted by LE and they ask for your gun or CCW and you refuse or deny that you have one, and they later discover this fact, I believe that they can revoke your permit. At least, that's what I have heard. Too damned hot top be outside today so maybe I'll research those regs while I'm sitting in front of the AC. Also, I would think that if and when the SHTF and you were dumb enough to be standing around with an unloaded open view firearm, you might become a target. Especially if you were an innocent and the cops showed up. Who'd blame them?

It seems to me that the situation between citizens and law enforcement has degraded beyond my wildest imagination.
I would think that a cop could easily distinguish between an ordinary person, even if it's a traffic stop, and "the bad guys" otherwise known around here as TURDS.
If this is the case, then I have to assume that it has become a BUNKER MENTALITY, us versus them, just about everywhere.
Open carrying, unloaded is rather stupid in the first place, but in California, that is the only thing left, so if some of these guys want to be Crusaders, well, that's their business.
But, it should not be a reason to put handcuffs on anybody. I just don't get that? If the citizen was a bad guy, he would absolutely have the gun inside his pants, well concealed.
So, the mere fact that the citizen has an empty handgun out in the open should be a big clue that he isn't a threat but more of a curiosity.
I think it would be appropriate if he was asked what he is doing and it could be optional for the citizen to provide a detailed explanation, if he so desired.
Now, in the second video, shutting the guy up when he is trying to comply with the provisions of the law is BAD POLICE WORK, no matter how you slice it. And, the threat to pump ten rounds into him is so outrageous that I think taking his badge would be warranted.
My fellow Americans, it's worse than I might have imagined! These police are not on our side, it is us against them and they are particularly uncomfortable with an armed citizenry. That's a crying shame.
Like somebody already said, when seconds count, the police are minutes away. What does that tell you? We are responsible for our own safety. If someone feels safer with a firearm than being caught without it, that is a right guaranteed by the Second Ammendment. The police are dead wrong to think of their own personal safety instead of a citizen's Constitutional rights.

Lance, that's the way it's setup here in the center of the universe. If you are detained by the po-po then you must tell them you have a permit and are carrying. Most here see this as a sign of you're one of the good guys and you can watch their demeanor change.
I may have told this story before but I was in Texas early one morning after a night hunt East of Lubbock when we were pulled over (around 3:00) in a small town. The cop shined his light in the back of the Bronco and saw our machine guns. He immedialtely grabbed his pistol and walked a tight rope along side of the vehicle, asking for DL and such. My buddy told him he had a CCW permit and then he asked about me. I told him mine was from the center of the universe and he immediatley walked over to the window and started joking with us. Asked us what we were doing and let us go.
Now 49's part;
Leonard I wasn't always the nice guy I am today and I ran with some intersting folk. I promise you looks alone can't tell you who's a good guy or a bad guy.
As the saying goes, "be nice, be professional but have a plan to kill everyone you meet". Yes it is a bunker mentality.
If open carrying an unloaded firearm is all you have left, then you've lost the battle.
I don't see the reason to roll video unless you're trying to make a statement. I'd object to cuffs but I wouldn't have been a turd to the officer and witheld info while protesting the fact that I was a risk. At the very least carrying an unloaded gun shows stupidity and who knows what stupid people will do.
An officer trying to sort out why you're doing what you're doing isn't asking too much. You know every turd is just minding his own business and every prisoner in jail is innocent. Just ask them.
Now back to me being me;
Yes it is bad and some are uncomfortable with us being armed but for the most part, here they understand why we carry and know that if we have a permit, we're one of the good guys.

Lived his whole life north of LA, the name of the town escapes me right now ?
He talks about the wonderful climate and how great it was in the 60's and 70's It's really too bad that between crime and lib's it had to get fucked up.

I lived in Olivehurst back in the 70's, a small town just across the river from Marysville/Yuba city, about 45 minutes North of Sacramento.
It was nice country or at least you could drive to any kind of country you wanted, mountains with snow in the summer and beautiful rivers.
Our area was full of pheasant but no one would let me and my dad hunt. I did spend alot of time in the irrigation canal, frog giggin and stuff and we fished a huge river out there alot but it weren't okieland so we moved back when I was 11. My grandma still lives there along with an uncle, they come here every year and tell stories...
