Ever think about Nevada? I mean there is a ton of BLM land to use. But I do like Arizona best. The thing for me is I do like to be near a town with a grocery store so I can get ice beer and gas. Some of the draw backs for Nevada are it could be 50 or 70 miles to town.
In short my vote will be for Arizona I guess.
And I do hope to make this one.

There is a canyon just south of Alamo that could work and supplies are probably less than five miles away.

I have not discounted St John's either. That big fire was over that way, but animals wander back when the coast is clear.

North of Wilcox is a fine location, private, no real negatives, the large desert "elm" is it? provides all the shade you will ever need.

That Seligman location is a wonderful spot for at least a hundred people if it is available?

Lot's of possibilities. Except Pichacho Peak, the professor picked a dud, that time.

RE: Seligman
I dont have that particular piece any longer but thet area is a checker board of state trust and private prorerty in 1 mile square sections and there is a lot of places it could happen there.
Edit to add) I like wilcox and St. Johns cuz its not been done.

Alamo, NV looks like a fine location on paper. Just far enough north the coyotes won't be foundered on runaways and card counters.

Timing will be the most critical factor for me this year so I look forward to hearing the projected dates!

I'd sure like to make it this year too. Don't plan anything around me, of course, not that anyone would anyway, but, Oct. is already booked solid for me. Nov. is looking tough to get free already too, but could still be done. If a date isn't set within the next few weeks though, my Nov. will likely be gone by then too.

Anyway... for me, it's probably going to have to be after Nov. for my best chance at being able to attend.

Anything before Halloween weekend in October sucks for me, too. And I'd sure like to come this year!
Either of the 1st two weekends in Nov would work well, but not sure if that coincides with any local big game seasons?

That's great. Every campout has been in October, for one reason or another, but it is not a lock.

I'm glad to hear about everybody's busy schedule, and I would first like to nail down a location, or at least a preference. The wash seems always to be a fall back location?

AZ people would be out of their comfort zone in Nevada. Jimanez, what exactly is the difference between October in Wilcox and October in Alamo Lake? 5°?

I have the 2011 Nevada Hunting Guide right here in my hand. And here what I can make out.
(Bobcats: Miscellaneous Requirements; Prohibited Acts; Fee for Seal)

5. A resident of Nevada must pay the Department $5 for such a seal.
The key word there for me is resident.

#1. Any person who kills a bobcat shall, within 10 days after the close of the season, personally:
(a) Present its pelt for inspection by and give its lower jaw to a representative of the Department.

2. A person shall not sell, offer for sale, barter, trade, purchase, transfer ownership, tan, offer for out-of-state shipment by a common carrier or,except as otherwise provided in subsection.

I think that's a long ass way to say if your from out of state don't harvest any gray fox or bobcats.

This info is found on page 56 of the 2011 Nevada Hunting guide Book.

Any who likes can read up on the Nevada regs for there self at ndow.org

I do not hunt deer or any thing else right now but hope to be for to long. So I'm not up to speed on the big game rules and laws.
But heres what I think I know just off the top of my head. Bow season starts first of september,Gun season first of October, and then all the upland birds starts first of November.

FYI those dates might not be right but only close and I'm not in the mood to look them up.
If Nevada is the state for the camp out just pass on the gray fox and the bobcats.

Alamo Nevada is not so bad of an area. But finding a little shade might not be an easy thing to do. I'm not so sure it's far enough out of vegas. I mean over all the area dose get hit and there are some local calling contest in the area.

But I guess Alamo Nevada is handy from the view point that it's a bit of a gate way to other hunting spots. Caliente Nevada is just up the road from Alamo Nevada on State route 93 and a few other hunting areas,as well as a place to fuel your self up and your truck. Plus a guy could head up state route 318 as well.

The state of Nevada has what I think or very libral hunting regs. The one thing this state is hung up on is don't lay a loaded gun on your any part of your truck car or Quad. In Nevada a loaded gun means a live round in the chamber.
On abit of a side note, for the time being you do not need to have a tag on your ATV or Quad.

Now for the Alamo Arizona area, first off you Arizona boys should just stay the hell out of there that's one of my best spots.
And Jim is right it can be hot in October the day time temp could hit a high of 90 to 95 in October. With a small chance to find any shade.
And it's a long ways back to town.
But of course I'm talking about the part of that county that you get to from I-40 and driving down Alamo Lake Road. It's open land and it's wild county. There is some private land but most of it can be hunted you just have to Sign in to a book and hang A tag off your rear view mirro of your truck. There is more than enough country to hunt. On the south side of the Lake Alamo Arizona is a town name of Sloan or solome. It might have a shit-n-get,Wickenbuurg might not be to far away. On what I call the north side of the lake Alamo area are towns like King man Arizona,Needles California is not to far,And there is a back country road out there that will get you into wickenburg.
I would pick the the last weekend of October or any time in November.
That's about all I got.

Edit is just to add if the camp out is in Nevada there is a chance that a person could hit afew areas along the Utah Nevada border. Of course a guy should find out for his self but I do think that a hunter can harvest coyotes and red fox in Utah with out any hitch, tag or permit of any sort. I have never been to Utah, and like I say a person should check that out for tere self.

Leonard, I'm hesitant to give much input. Just hate the thought of having any influence on date or location, when I'm not at all sure whether I'll be there or not.

But, since you asked, my vote goes for Nevada (Alamo would be great, that's a short drive from our place...), the week before or anytime after Thanksgiving.

Whatever about 2000 to 2500 feet in elevation will get you. Probably more than 5 degrees. If you recall, it was miserable here right up until a day or two before last year's campout and a front came through cooling things off. Front or not, it was still pretty dang warm around Alamo Lake well into November, and is pretty much every year.

I my self have woke up seligman in the morning with a temp of 12. I have woke up in the morning the Parashant valley area with a temp of 14.That was near the wolf Hole area.
The real name of the place is Parashant National Monument.
I'm down with in are around the Alamo Nevada area.

LB do are you thinking Alamo Canyon road?
I have done a camp out near Hiko up Mail Summit Road and just a bout 400yards up Silver Canyon Road. You can pull a trailer up that road and the spot is big enough for 20 to 30 guys.
this spot will leave a person hung out to the wind if a storm blows in.
Well any way I do like the Alamo Nevada area.

This is a place near Hiko Nevada that I have made a camp out. It's up Mail Summit Road and just about 300 yards up Silver canyon Road.
It's aplace that you can pull a trialer up to.
But if a storm blows in you cant hide from the wind in that spot. but there are a few camp sites that wil provide some cover.
This spot has room for 20 to 30 guys.

This photo is more so you guys can see what the area is like is all. I do think a canyon would be best.
There are some spots that a guy should get knowed up on and they are Pahranagat National Wild life Refuge and the Key Pittman Wildlife Management area.
But they are easy to hunt a round and Nevada is very good about posting signs as far as boundrys go.

I like either the wash or Picacho.
Both are located in prime calling country. Clevenger took 19 animals in the 2 days he was at the Picacho campout.
Scott took a truck load of fox last time he was at Wilcox. Both will provide good calling opportunities.
More important though is the companionship of good friends and interesting people.

It's only three miles from the Elgin school house and about 25 miles off of the 93.All the spots out that way get hit hard and often. But most of the guys just drive through at night and shine the coyotes. And thats cool with me,I by self just park the truck and make a stand. This might be the dumb way to hunt at night but I walk in and make a stand just the same as in the day light. The place is called Kane Spring valley. I mean I dig why guys shine from there truck is to cover more ground.
And no man it's not or was not as cold as the photo makes it look. just another two miles down the road there was dry sand and dust. I just wore a lite coat is all.
Just about 400 yards or so up that raod is a turn in for a road that go's a cross the ridge of a section of the Delamar Range. I used to be kinda up tight about some of my spots I think every one down this way go's out there.
I'm the worst coyote hunter in Nevada.I have killed one out that way with in 15 miles of that spot. It's all open ragnge and not to hard to get around in. I shot an older male that one was alittle more up in the hills. It was was good stand I mean all the little things went right inspite of myself. I got in and got my back against some brush and made three howls set still for about three minutes and went in to hurt dog I call it that be cause it souds like a dog that has been kicked or hit by a car.
The funny thing is the coyotes were there be for I went to the hurt dog sound.I also think there was two cause the one I shot did that look over they do. Of coures that might not mean any thing. He saw me befor I saw him yet he hung around he was at 65 yards brush and sage was thick He might have thought he was hid thats just a guess.I had to move my shooting stick just a bit to get on him but he stuck around. I don't know why but I shot him right in the nose.
Another thing funny about this stand is for what ever reason I went in to a bit of a solo when I was doing the hurt dog sound. I just got done looking to the left then was looking in the middle when I saw the coyote, this was the only time I ever saw a coyote with it's jaw saging down as if to say what the hell am I seeing.

There are some coyotes out that way I get afew to howl from time to time,But then I don't all ways know how to play it out. I guess I don't know what to do. I think I might not sit tight long enough.I tend to stay on stand 10 to 12 minutes. and spilt. But I think I'm going to toss that way of thinking out the window and stay longer. I might shit can the hurt rabbit as well and just howl more of the time. And sit back on my rear and just see how it plays out.
And I'm not agaist the 10 or 12 minute stand. Just thinking this could work for me in some of the spots I hit.
After all those post about the turkey calls I made my self a butt load of howls for my self and I want to try them out this fall.
I meant to post a few more photos of a few spots that I hit but this photo bucket might not jive so will whith windows seven.
LB I'm not trying to push for a Nevada camp out just just wanted to get some photos out is all.
It only takes me about two hours to write one of these post.
And if there are afew more missed spelled words it's because my spell checker is off.
I need to get these thing back to the way I had it but forgot how.

Leonard, maybe doing a 'super secret' password protected discussion thread might be advantageous from this point, forward?

George, I've heard TA's hunting blind gets 32 mpg. Pics related [Smile]

Look closely. There is a coyote in the pics. The pictures were taken in Dearborn, MI about 500 yards from Ford World Headquarters by my father in law in March. No info on whether it was a Muslim coyote or not.

That old? I'm as untechnical as is humanly possible, my phone has a dial. I think? Or, is it, my dial has a phone. Bring more diapers.

Reminds me! I heard from Rich Higgins yesterday. What a surprise! He sent me a heads up on Viagra from a Canadian Pharmacy. What a sweetheart!

Hey is that coyote real?

Yes, it's a real coyote. You wanna huff it's den to find out?

Posted by DanS (Member # 316) on July 26, 2011, 04:16 PM:

Now that you brought up huffing. Up until a couple of years ago, I can't ever remember hearing a coyote make a huff sound. Well a huff is about the best I can describe it. Almost like a cough, instead of a scared dog kinda woof sound.

It came up behind me and huffed, when I turned to see it, kind of spooked me a little cause I'd seen some big javalina's and thought maybe one of those evil bastards, or a 2 legged coyote was sneaking up on me. I was close to the border and by myself. Well it for sure made me and didn't stick around.

Is this pretty common? You guys hear this stuff too?

No, no. Wrong concept, Dan. Huffing is what Kirby does to dirt holes to determine what kind of animal lurks within. It's said to be foolproof.

Well Rich, you should feel privileged to be asked to sign a famous mans rifle.

He didn't ask me, that was a mistake on his part, I will never like him because of it. I'm going to spend the day talking shit about him.

Seems I'm easily entertained.

Now about this drinking problem you have (according to tim), you should try the following advice.

Keep away from shitheads. They make me drink.

Youre mistaken Rich, I'm not up set with you..

You seem to be more of a (_@_) lately, thought i would return the favor.. I'm sure you got a kick out of it..

Question: How many coyotes did you call on youre first trip to Kansas????

Tim, you're upset with me because I corrected your claims about your Az calling trips.
LOL you could'nt even remember how many coyotes I shot that mourning...

But they are easey to call in AZ, N.M. and Texas. Thats why you and froot loops do so well..
Just drive down the road and a spot looks good you make a stand. No fancy calling unless you feel like it, mainly just a little old bird chirp or some rabbit.. How hard is that>> LOL
The remark I made has stuck with you all these years Rich, how come it bothers you so much?? Do you think people think less of you because they are easey to call in and youre just going around blowing smoke up there asses...

I must of struck a nerve with froot-loops, I see he took away my posting privileges.. Is he related to J.H. by any chance???

Well I guess youre two internet commando's Dave and Heath will have to come here if they want to chat. Boy are'nt those two some coyote killing machines...LMAO..

Higgins, I am not happy with your participation on Huntmasters, I have told you that you aren't welcome but you continue to post. I don't want to ban your ass. A simple request should be enough for an honorable man?

Some friend of yours sent me a link to a post in which you (apparently) claim to be the historian for the CVCA? I read the article and there are SEVERAL INACCURACIES. You do not know what you are talking about, concerning the history and evolution of the misting technique.

I would explain your mistakes but that would entail a dialogue with you in which I have no interest in participating.

Also, why did you send me a link to Canadian Viagra? How funny! Quit being a jerk.

Leonard, you should quit being so hard on the guy. He's only trying to clear the air and find out if you were really disappointed that you didn't get to sign TA's tits, I mean, gun.

Were you hurt or just pulling TA's leg about it? We all wanna know. [Smile]

It's your playground so you can do whatever you want but I think many of the guys here don't have the harsh feelings you do towards RH and like his input here and there.

Hard on the guy? I have tolerated his trespassing here without resorting to standard message board remedies, and I have told him to stay off the board because he is a two faced prick.

Steve Craig used to have a sig line that addresses the situation quite well; They don't know what they don't know. Something like that?

As far as your opinion, smithers....you don't have a vote and your opinion is not appreciated. It's seldom to never that I pull rank, but I don't want the prick on Huntmasters and that's the end of it.

He had absolute complete freedom to participate on this board but instead, behind my back built his own forum and most likely mined my membership to send invitations....to everybody but me.

That's it Higgins, no more, my hospitality is exhausted. Our friendship ceased to exist a long time ago and you know it. You are only here to irritate, something you are very good at.

edit: hurt about what? Signing his stock? His version, (near as I can tell?) is a complete fantasy. The only part he got right is that I signed his stock.

Mr Higgins,

You came in here and started an argument with one of my members, knowing you are not welcome. I have tolerated your crap long enough.

I hope you feel a sense of accomplishment in forcing me to inactivate your account? It did not have to be this way but you cannot take a fucking hint.

Congratulations, you have joined a very select group.

edit: PS I didn't just suspend your account, chucklehead. I deleted you. Rich Higgins, Member #3 no longer exists, something I probably should have done long ago. This is special treatment even Fruit Loops never got. I could let him back in at the push of a button, but you have been erased. That custom title, "Unknown Comic" is reserved for deleted accounts, and we don't see it often, if ever?

Humor me, just this once. Everybody. Please stay on topic.

I can't remember making that request before, but I don't want anybody sharing their opinion about poor mistreated and misunderstood Rich Higgins, who <sniff, sniff> suddenly, can't defend himself.

I don't wish to bore the audience but this is something about me that I can clarify.

I do not put people on my unfriend list, they do it themselves and when it happens, there is no remedy. Higgins managed to put himself in that position and he gets to stay there, where I want nothing to do with him. THIS MEANS: I don't want to talk to him or receive emails or be addressed by him on HM, or anywhere else. Especially his message board. We were close friends once. Hard to believe it has come to this but it is over.
Repeat, I will spell it out; O V E R.

Good luck, Higgins. From this point forward, we live parallel lives with no contact whatsoever.

Good hunting. LB

WTH kind of software you running Leonard?

I just tried Calling Higgins on both phone numbers I have for him and got a recording “Number no longer valid”. I then Looked up Higgins address on Google maps and it directed me to a blank lot. I called the Scottsdale AZ police dept and they informed me they had no American Citizens by that name registered under the 480 area code.

Either your software deleted all traces of Higgins or he went off the grid before he comes to kill you. If the latter is the case I am sure there will be some misting….

Well, he asked for it.

And, for Mr Smarty Pants, Dan Carey, for once you are right. Who gives a shit about such a petty issue? I really don't. I just became irritated by his involvement here, picking a fight with a member, when he knows what he did and that we are no longer friends. The question is, are WE friends because you give every indication, at every opportunity, that we are not? Let me know because I can fix your account, as well.

CCP. The Higgins clan is well known within the legal system. If you need to talk to him, Carey knows how to get in touch.

now, I believe I said : please stay on topic. I do not wish to further discuss Higgins. Thank you. LB

Sorry for the trouble Leonard..

Rich invited me to his board awhile back and told me he was going to get it up a going, so as of late I've been hanging out over there..
Youre right Rich is two faced and I believe the only reason he asked me over there was to bring in more new members and someone for his internet commandos to play with.
I tried to play nice but its difficult to do when getting rocks thrown from all sides..
Fruit-loops dose'nt know if he's comeing or going, he dose'nt like it that he was given a nick name but will turn around and do the same to others or do one of his famous copy/paste photo's..

That smithers is another two faced prick. He comes over here and plays nice and when over at PP. he is saying all kinds of shit behind youre back Leonard and sucking up to Rich..

Here is a question for Dave Allen and Smithers two of Rich's internet commando's..
How many coyotes have you guys killed in the last few years or life-time. Oh! And Dave leave youre wife out of it... [Roll Eyes]

T-bag.......you really ought to shut the fuck up!! You of all people shouldn't call ANYONE out on how many coyotes they have killed lest you WANT to find yourself smack dab in the middle of a giant fucking shit storm!! But I think that IS precisely what you want, isn't it?

Nobody fucking cares what a little bitchy ass kisser who has made himself an internet legend by being the biggest dumbass alive has to say, we just dont care, LB said he was done with it, didnt he?

"How many coyotes have you shot".........what a fucking hoot!!

I haven't said anything about Leonard on RH's board that I wouldn't say to him here, you stupid twat.

I've been quite nice to you up to this point Tim, in fact I've been civil, compared to some of these guys. But, if you want me to start being an enemy, a true enemy, I will hunt you like a fucking lion. You have some tame motherfuckers on your ass right now compared to what I will bring down on you. At this point I have no alternative but to be a keyboard fucking commando, BECAUSE IT'S THE INTERNET YOU DOLT! Unlike some of the other guys you called out about not saying anything to your face at the campout, about what a tool you are, I'd do it in a fucking heartbeat. Anything I have ever written on these boards I would say to anyone to their face. Bank on it.
YOU are the biggest keyboard commando of all. You talk shit all the time thinking nothing will EVER come of it. Well, every dog has his day.

Regarding called coyotes; I told you I called in 63 coyotes last year on 4 stands and killed 61 of them. I killed 12 with one bullet, they all came to the call in a single file line. It was great because I set the caller behind me and it was a 12 coyote Texas heart shot. I was using a .17 HMR at the time and it was a 300 yard shot. I usually don't take anything under 700 yards but i made an exception. I have the video. YOU CALLIN ME A LIAR!?

Mind you, I typed this quite calmly. With not even a tick up in my BP.
