Local story. Happened in my neighborhood.
Bullet flies through neighborhood window
Judging by the picture and how far the bullet penetrated, I was guessing it was within 700 yards or so. I don't have much experience with FMJ bullets, which I would believe this had to be. Would a bullet from a .30 caliber rifle penetrate 2 walls from more than 1,000 yards? Conjecture but best guess? [ July 15, 2011, 08:47 PM: Message edited by: smithers ]

Smithers I was still down in Arizona when an old man was going to clean his handgun or what ever and it went off went through his wall and then through the wall of the person next door to him. And hit her in the gut and killed her baby. The mother made it OK but the young child did not. The old man was 80 or 90 and sticking his ass in the joint did not make alot of sense to me. But I'm sure the young mother would not have thought that way at all. I think the old man might had been drinking as well but cant say for sure. This was around say about 1994 to 1996. I said house but it was a trailer house. But I do not know if the old guy did any time are not. But it does seam that the local D A was hung up more on the old guy being drunk than any thing else. Do I have a point not really sure. Shit happens I guess.Know one here needs to be told but always clear your gun,and always check your gun even when you know it's clear. I mean right now I know damn well my rile is clear. But if I went and got the case and took out my rifle the first thing I will do is clear the thing.

When I was a kid a cop was showing my Mom the difference between single and double action and shot a 357 mag thru two wall of our house one interior and one exterior, went right thru. A soft point 30/06 will penetrate the outer fender, bed walls and other side outer fender of a 1964 chev pick-up from about 600 yards. Carl

There's a place just to the west of my house that has a bit of land and they shoot their guns pretty often. One of them may have had an errant shot or some jackoff was firing shots into the air instead of fireworks.

There was a case, many years ago of a discharge as a man was putting his cased rifle in the trunk of his car. It killed somebody seven miles away in Bakersfield.
I'd rather be struck by a meteor.
