Watched the new True Grit movie yesterday. I really like Jeff Bridges and the original True Grit movie. However, I really didn't like this new one. I know it supposedly follows the book more closely and the story was fine, acting good, etc. I just didn't really like the movie.

I watched it again this weekend with my daughter. Overall I liked it.
Think my daughters fav part was when the guy wearing the bear suit was riding the horse.

With all the hype, I saw it the day it came out. The movie, just okay. Jeff played the part well, but a lot of people have said that they didn't understand a word the man said.

I saw it about 2 months ago and liked it, I saw the original a week or so ago and LOVED it, far better than the new one. The new one is too condensed, no character building, I like Matt better than Glenn. still good but not as good! I saw an ad for "Cowboys and Aliens" the other day looks good. Carl

I have been wanting to see this one also. But I aint going to rush it. Does Bridges talk like that through the whole movie? I've only seen the trailor, but it's hard for me to understand him. He sounds like his mouth is full of worm dirt (skoal).

There's only one version of True Grit and only one John Wayne. Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn? Pure horse dung.

For that matter, why do they insist on doing updated versions of classics? I have not seen one yet that is as good as the original. Maybe Ben Hur?

LB, Perhaps Hollyweird is running out of material that isn't science fiction bs. There is no comparing the new and original versions of this movie. In my opinion, only the characters have the same names and the reason for hiring Rooster is the same.

My wifes nephew is one of the producers of the new version, I liked it but Jeff Bridges is no John Wayne!

Well I'm going to vote the other way. The new one, in my opinion, was 10 times the movie of the old one. I was never a huge John Wayne fan anyway. Most of his movies had a good plot but were poorly made as far as any authenticity concerning saddles, holsters, and all other equipment. That and JW rode a horse like a sack of dog shit. He should have learned to ride a horse sometime in his life.

I'll probably get my Real American Card revoked for saying this, but I've never been a John Wayne fan either. And as long as I'm showing my true colors, I thought Jeremiah Johnson was a pretty lame movie also. But whenever the subject of mountain men comes up people rave about that movie and I could never understand why.

I enjoyed the newer one more so than the original. The "Rooster" character that Jeff Bridges played, along with the remake itself was more onimous & threatening than was John Wayne's "Rooster" & the original take film...
Killing people is serious business & I feel the original movie now seems almost cartoonish in comparison (relating to the shootout scenes & tone of the story line).

Well hell, I liked them both. I disagree with Cal in that I do like John Wayne, but agree 100% with the authenticity comment. Ever notice in the movies with Ben Johnson, he is always riding a modern steer roping saddle? Probably his or his dads. I don't necessarily mind the remakes, its the books that are made into movies that hack me off. They seem to totally screw up a good story when they do that. 'Shooter' is a good example. I mean really, Mark Walburg as Bob Lee Swagger....total bs.

I agree on the Authenticity angle that Cal brought up, thats why I was so impressed with 'unforgiven' eveything seemed correct to period not so hollywood. And the launguage was better in the new true grit. I loved to hear them talk in the Deadwood series.

I liked the new one a little bit better too. Just though Bridges played a far more believable alcoholic, the scenery was much more authentic to the story line and the bad guys were portrayed in a much more realistic manner. Few scenes I was thinking how much better John Wayne was, like when he talked about his ex wife and hoping that nail selling bastard made her happy, but, over all, Bridges put in a stronger performance, my opinion.
Did miss Glen Campbell as LaBoeuf though. The new guy just sucked.
Geordie, who in the hell is Ben Johnson? Never mind, I'll just google it...

Ben Johnson jr was the actor. His dad, Ben Sr., was a steer man here in the osage. They were both steer ropers. Ben jr left here and went to hollywood with a load of horses for the movies, and never came back. Every fathers day, they have the Ben Johnson(Sr) memorial steer roping in Pawhuska. Big social event around here. More proof that Ok is the center of the universe. LOL

I was kinda let down when I watched the movie. I liked parts of it though. I was just expecting more I guess. Hard to beat John Wayne and Robert Duvall.
