The Missouri river has already flooded a lot of folks both north and south of me. If our levee holds, we will be OK, but if it breaks we will be forced to evacuate. Once we evacuate, what flood waters don't take, the looters will. If I suddenly disapear from the board, it means I am homeless. The Government had to know about all of that snow in the mountains. If they had opened the flood gates of those three dams in April, we wouldn't be talking floods right now.

Rich, hope your levee holds.Rich take your tower for your PC with you if you have to split.Looters should be shot on site!I bet you have done this all ready, but you might want to put some things in a bag in case you have to split in a hurry.
Good luck to you Rich.

Cayotaytalker ,

Yes, I have a lot of stuff loaded in my truck already. I agree that looters should be shot, but around here the Judge would probably put on his rasberry lipstick before he kisses them.

I hope you turn out alright and those levies hold. Just don't send that water downstream too fast. St. Louis could turn into a lake too. We have three rivers flooding.

Good luck and I hope for the best.

Now...on the looters...

I know a few people in the Joplin area and despite what we were told on the evening news, looting's been a big problem there too.

But...I'm told, when they're caught by civilians...it ain't purdy. (Rightfully so)

One guy, got the shit beat out of him...stripped down...tied to a tree with "looter" spray painted on him!

Another story is of a guy who had both of his arms broken. The cops picked him up after the beating...then dropped his ass off outside of town. (I say "story" with that one, because it was hearsay.)

Not a "story"...Good friend of mine's family was buried in their basement...They dug themselves out to (naturally) find the house destroyed, but his motorcycle was sitting in the garage virtually unscathed!

They went for help and what not, but when they came back the next day...the bike was gone.

I heard on the radio today that a Fire chief somewhere was on administrative leave and several of his firefighters were fired, pending charges that they were found to have been looting in Joplin after the tornado when they went there to assist. That should carry extra punishments. When we entered Chapman, KS, following their tornado, everyone was given clear and firm rules on what we were to do if we came across any personal property of value. The crew I was with never did, but I was keeping an eye out just in case. Anytime you move 1400 volunteers into a town that only had 1000 people in it to begin with, there's always the possibility. Take anything you can't replace with you, and the stuff you need now, just to be safe.

'.............with "Looter" spray painted on him.

Mayhap, they should have carved 'looter' into the turd's forehead with a skinning knife instead.

JD and Smithers,
I am just an OLD codger now. Six years ago, I retired from the martial arts because I was getting short winded. Quadruple bypass surgery was performed shortly after that. I was taking a Japaneze style of karate at the time.

But hey,......Cronk's alright!! I hope that I can stay active as long as he has. He makes a pretty good open reed antler reproduction call too. (Actually, it's a damn good call but I don't want to get into that whole leg humping thing.)

Rich, they raised our flow from the dam and we are getting rain, two to three inches east of here that will be flowing your way.

Hope your levees hold.

The interstate must be closed in some spots?? I talked to some P Dog hunters from down there that said they hit some detours?

Interstate 29 is the main north and south escape routes from my city of Council Bluffs, and it is closed both north and south of me. The western escape route for me is the I-480 bridge, which remains open. I can go east through town and out that way with no problem. Missouri river has remained at 33.2 feet in Council Bluffs area for several days now, which means that river is only running two feet above bottom of our levee here. We will be OK if a levee to our north doesn't break. There is a lot of ground water flooding the farm fields north of here, and that tells me that the ground under those levee's has to be soft mud.

Since flood water has driven wildlife out of the brush on bottom grounds, those hills where I have hunted deer and coyotes for over 50 years would be absolutely LOADED with deer and coyotes right now. COYOTES, COYOTES!!!! I would need to take a long detour to make it up there now, but it sure is tempting. VERY tempting.

Yea the wildlife is being displaced, we have been on 12 hour shifts at night shooting any deer that get near the levees. They poke holes in the plastic on the levees with their hooves. We have an island on the river which is for the most part flooded. The deer are still staying in there standing in the water. What a mess!!

Speaking of the Red River. When I was stationed up at Grand forks it seemed that every spring the banks would over flow in Grand forks and we would send troops from the base into town to help with the sand bagging... They thanked us every year by comeing out to the base gates and protesting our presence and the nukes we watched over... [Roll Eyes] [Confused]

We had a big thunder storm move through here tonite that caused quite a lot of damage. We got word that because of heavy rains up-river, they may need to open the flood gates of the missouri river dams even more. That's all we need.

The river level is now at 34.5 feet in this area. Flood gates will be opened to 160,000 CFS tomorrow, which they predict will raise our river level another 4".

Hey Cronk,

Are you staying dry?

Coming north from Springfield to KC, MO Wednesday afternoon illustrated how fickle Mother Nature is this year. Within an hour of us, Joplin is in pieces. Just north of us, flood waters are at record highs. At Truman Reservoir, water levels are lower than I've ever seen them. Whereas the lake is known for its abundant treetop snags piercing the water's surface everywhere, at present, there are no snags or tips. The actual trees, as well as the islands of mud they're anchored in are clearly visible. Boat ramps bottom out a hundred yards from the water's edge. I'm guessing the lake is ~25-30' below conservation pool right now.

Posted by Rich (Member # 112) on June 25, 2011, 03:57 PM:

We are still dry right now, but some area's closer to the river have been flooded by the ground water seepage. The latest concern for me is a levee break twenty miles up-river. Water runs down hill in this area.

Lance, almost every reservoir has been pulled down to near record lows hear in Washington as well. Because of the record snowpack, and anticipation of warmer weather, they need all the room they can get if it starts melting in a hurry. I imagine they are doing the same thing in yor neck of the woods?

had to make ANOTHER trip to Minot. they raised the crest another 3 feet so my brother got evacuated also. the first trip we just moved his stuff up to the main floor. i was about 150 miles into the trip when he called and said that a shit load of strangers showed up and helped him move and he was all done!!. sisters house is a gonner. water upto the roof [Frown]
well i had my rifle, calls and bedding so i figgered i was that far, might as well go a bit farther and kill coyotes [Big Grin] . shot 4 on sat. morning. used only mouth calls. (foxpro batteryies were dead).

Just yesterday a Sheriff deputy spotted a guy floating down I-29 in a small boat. The deputy waited down-stream where the pavement was dry, and gave the guy a few tickets. Just further proof that you can't fix stupid.

I'm guessing you're refering to the cop as being stupid, last I checked floating in a boat was still legal.

JD,
Normally it would be legal, but all of these flood waters are now considered the Missouri river. The Federal Government has banned all boats from the river.
