Made another trip recently. Spent one morning hiking in Horseshoe Canyon, where the "Great Gallery" is located. It's a rock art panel considered by many to be the best in the country.

edit: fourth from the bottom, what animal? open mouth seems like a dog, but when they make fetishes, like the Zuni, a long tail curling over the back represents a lion.

Leonard, the red pigment is iron oxide, I'm pretty sure.

The curved tailed quadraped, as with ALL this stuff, really, anyones guess is as good as anyone elses. But, most of the curve tailed images I've seen have looked like dogs to me and the archaeologists call them "curved tail canine graphics", so, I guess I'll go along with them and say it's a dog?

Got to spend quite a bit of time up there years ago hiking and mtn. biking.
